His VFR lives on....many parts of it were "donated" to other VFRs so that they could live.

How has the wrist healed up?

I agree with what the others have said about waiting until the bike is ready. You will be a little more relaxed on the track once you have it dialed in, and have any other potential issues sorted. Yeah, it might not have been an easy decision, but I do believe you made the right decision. Plus you now have time to go over the bike again, and examine any further areas for imporvement.

What you can do is have a spring stub welded in the current position, it doesn't need to be very long, just long enough to keep the spring in the proper position/location, then you have the kickstand lever/peg moved down. That way the spring has the normal/correct tension, and you maintain function of the kick stand. Easy, no? -

Ok....to solve your sidestand issue, just have the side stand peg cut, and lowered when in the down position, or aft in the up position, that's what I had to do to mine. As for the radial MC's, yes, they are quite nice, I like the consistent pull/feel, even after a full day on the track, they still feel the same! Perhaps you could move the MC outboard 2-3mm, if there's room..... -

Gilles rear sets huh, nice! How do you like your radial master cylinder? You know I like mine!!! -
That's what the odometer is for, a stand-in fuel gauge...You just gotta pay attention to your mileage the first few times to get your averages.

NO!!! You MUST maintain at least 1 VF(R) in your collection at all times.....Not saying that the BMW is out, but just keep the VF, as it is already paid for, thus inexpensive to keep. -
Dialing in a 4th Gen, Carb questions

You can find jet kits for the VFR, but they're not as common as they used to be. There was a company by the name of Factory that sold them, you could check them out. That's where I got my jet kit from, SEVERAL years ago.....You'd be changing jets and adjusting the heights ofthe needles. It isn't a difficult job, but is kinda tedious... http://www.factorypro.com/ -

Looks good on the top pic, not sure about the tension, but the twists per inch look consistent, and it has been done on the correct direction. For the caliper bolts though, I can;t really tell how many twists per inch, almost looks like it isn't. Should be right around 6-8 full twists per inch. It could be correct, and the angle could be deceiving. Overall, I give you a solid B+. If I was able to tell the tension, that could raise you a full letter grade. It would most definitely pass track scrutineering though, so yeah, you did good!!! -

When safety wiring, remember if one bolt loosens, it should tighten/put tension on the other one. The best way to think about it is a reverse or mirrored "S". http://navyaviation.tpub.com/14014/css/Safety-Wiring-Methods-116.htm -

When I teach my students how to safety wire, they MUST do it by hand first and be competent with that, then I show them how to do it with the pliers. To me, safety wire, well it's important, but it is also art. You can tell alot about a mechanic by the way they safety wire!!! -
Rear Wheels/tires, The End All Discussion
douglasthecook replied to dallasb's question in Modification Questions
I don't have any pics, as my VFR is 1/4 of the planet away from me, but if you take some clay, or some putty, or anything that is transferrable, and place it on the heads of the bolts gently/loosely, then mount the wheel, you'll see where you need to radius the inner face of the wheel. Then you take a dremel, or equivalent, and SLOWLY make a circular indent into the inner face of the im. If you Google this " blending turbine blades" you'll get the idea. You want a nice clean semi circle, so the wheel won't crack due to stress risers. It isn't hard, just takes a little patience. -
Tracked the 8th Gen over the weekend

Any leathers from a reputable company will suit your needs (see what I did there, suit...yeah, pretty lame, I know....) Make sure they fit properly, that is most important! Try them on, get in the position that you'll be wearing them in, and make sure that they are tight enough where they need to be, and loose enough where they need to be. If you go to a reputable shop, the people there should be able to give you advice. I have a 2 piece Arlen Ness suit, and I like it. I am able to wear just the jacket on nice days, or if I'm going for a spirited ride, I put the whole thing on. Colors, well that all depends on your taste. I prefer mostly white leathers, as you get hot enough in them, and I've had darker leathers in the past, and totally cooked in them. A color scheme like what you have on your textiles would be decent. Suits are like tires, and helmets, lots of good brands out there, it all depends on what you like. -

How did you make the tank/seat/subframe filler panels? Those look AMAZING!!! I have struggled with that section of my VFR since fotting the RC-51 tail section, and have not come up with a solution that I'm happy with. -
97 Low Fuel Indicator
douglasthecook replied to Lannyl81's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
I went by my odometer/trip meter to judge fuel quantity/distance, and normally filled up around the 150 mile mark. Ask around and see what the average MPG is for the specific model you want info on, as mine is heavily modified, build for track days, not MPG, and will be different than the average VFR here. -
97 Low Fuel Indicator
douglasthecook replied to Lannyl81's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
Hard to tell really. It ll depends on how the arm that the float is attached to is bent. I have run out of fuel before, and the light never came on. Fortunately I was only 1/2 mile away from the gas station, and was headed there anyway. -

Left side radiator hose discontinued?
douglasthecook replied to SEBSPEED's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
Umm......I might have one, but won't be able to tell you for sure until May, as I won't be back home until then. I converted to the Samco hoses, and don't remember what I did with my old ones to be honest. I usually don't toss stuff like that out. Remind me in late May by a PM, and I'll see if I still have it, if you still need one by then. -

Ok, so ride report, and comparison the the 4th Gen VFR please. How do they compare (ergonomics, power, ease to transition from left to right turns and back, throttle response, braking, acceleration)? I know it's kinda apples to oranges, but some of us can't ride, and need something!!! -
Afternarket Controls Question
douglasthecook replied to MotoMatic's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
That kill switch should work. I went with an even slimmer version of the start/stop switch on my VFR. I believe the switch unit was off of a newer CBR. Unfortunately I don't have a pic right now, but if I can find one, I'll upload it.
