  1. When I teach my students how to safety wire, they MUST do it by hand first and be competent with that, then I show them how to do it with the pliers. To me, safety wire, well it's important, but it is also art. You can tell alot about a mechanic by the way they safety wire!!!
  2. I don't have any pics, as my VFR is 1/4 of the planet away from me, but if you take some clay, or some putty, or anything that is transferrable, and place it on the heads of the bolts gently/loosely, then mount the wheel, you'll see where you need to radius the inner face of the wheel. Then you take a dremel, or equivalent, and SLOWLY make a circular indent into the inner face of the im. If you Google this " blending turbine blades" you'll get the idea. You want a nice clean semi circle, so the wheel won't crack due to stress risers. It isn't hard, just takes a little patience.
  3. Ok, so ride report, and comparison the the 4th Gen VFR please. How do they compare (ergonomics, power, ease to transition from left to right turns and back, throttle response, braking, acceleration)? I know it's kinda apples to oranges, but some of us can't ride, and need something!!!
  4. I wouldn't bother getting new ones, as the same thing will eventually happen. Just remove the existing ones, and call it a day.
  5. Happy Birthday to Dutchy, aka the King in the US...Dutchy is very good at being in 2 places at the same time!!! http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2016/Dec/161231krbirthday.htm
  6. I blended the cbr filler piece with some sheetmetal, then covered with carbon fiber. Ah, ok! Thanks!
  7. I believe that I have GSXR coils as well based off the part numbers from eBay, and the CBR coils. I really din't know how much difference it'll make if any, as this mod seems fairly untested, exceprt for a few people. I plan on making my own harness tomorrow, and I might buy some CBR coils just in case.
  8. I don't remember what COP's I'm using, but this is the number in their top surface. Denso 129700-4420-J0440. I do not have a volt meter on my VFR unfortunately, but will install one eventually. I have to go into work this afternoon, but have plans on tackling this tomorrow, and Friday, so I can get her to the local dealer for new tires, and fork seals. I have a bit to do to her to make her ridable, but 2 days in the garage should get it done!!!
  9. That helps out alot, thanks!!! I really don't know why I didn't think of looking on eBay, but I'm glad that you did!!!
  10. I didn 't buy the subharness. In retrospect, that was probably a mistake. I do have the required parts to make my own subharness though. I can't tell from your pics, as they get to blurry when I enlarge them, but can you confirm that the black wire is the on the roght prong of the coul? Thanks!
  11. Cool, thanks!!! That's what I'll go with as well. I was also just guessing that since they weren't marked with a positive or begative terminal that maybe it didn't matter, but again, that was just a guess on my part.
  12. I have all the parts/pieces to install the coils, And I am back from my deployment. I just need to know which prong on the coil is the ground, and which is the hot wire, as I want to get the wiring right for the new harness that I am making. From what I have seen so far, it appears that the right prong on the coil is the ground wire, can anyone confirm this? I have the 2 prong coils btw. Thanks!
  13. I was looking at pushing the top of the radiator out an inch or so, just pivoting it forward. I know I will have to notch the inner cowl to accomodate this, but that shouldn't be an issue. It should also be a fairly straight-forward mod, just fab up some new top mounts, and that's it, in theory anyway...
  14. For my tank panel, I took a black plastic garden bin, and cut it to the shape that I needed it to be, from a cardboard template that I made. It works, but I'm definitely not 100% satisfied with it, and am still looking for solutions. If you have pics of how you did yours, I'd really appreaciate the insight. When I was stationed in Germany, I did a number of track days on my VFR, and that's one reason behind the weight loss attempt. I still want to try the coil conversion, as I have the coils, and the electrical connectors, but have not been able to swap them out yet.
  15. I can understand the removal of the fan in your case. I have been many places where I needed it, and am leery of removing it. I have shed about 22 kilos with my tail section swap, and exhaust swap. I suppose that there is more to be gained, but I also want to keep a good balance with the weight distrobution. I have been considering a lithium battery as well. I also wouldn't mind swapping out the glass headlight lenses to lexan, but am having difficulties with a suitable replacement, and maintaining the stock look of the headlights. Also, what did you do for the wrap around panel at the base of your tank, I like it, and am split on the one I came up with on mine.
  16. What are the advantages of removing the fan? Won't that cause your bike to run a little warmer? I'm not doubting you, but I'm also very curious, as the fan removal would solve clearance issues with the coil on plugs for the front cylinder bank. I was just going to re-position my fan forward an inch or so, depending on the necessary clearance for suspension travel.
  17. Excellent, thanks for the info! How hard was it to wire up, as I don't remember any wires in that area.
  18. What type of water pump did you use, i.e., automotive water pump, as this is something that I am interested in! Please provide details if you can remember them, thanks!
  19. I have some at home, but they will also require me to move the radiator. They are the shorter GSX-R coils, vs. the Hayabusa coils, which are longer. All I was going to do was move the radiator forward if it didn't interfere with suspension clearance. Make new mount brackets for the top, notch the inner fairing to compensate for the new position, and it should work from preliminary measurements.
  20. I like them green, looks rather military!!!
