  1. LOL...you guys are hilarious with the comments and the smileys... 5'11" is just the right dancing height for me...
  2. Perusing this thread and never noticed the reply that it actually did clear things up...what was the verdict?
  3. Go here for the scoop on filter cross-references: http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterXRef.html Go here for dissected filters and recommendations based upon the results: http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterStudy.html ...I was pleased to see the SuperTech filter does indeed have an anti-drainback valve. However it does have lots less filtration media present, which would necessitate 2x the filter changes for every oil change (and wasting the oil in the filter during the changes). At $2 per though, you still come out money ahead of buying another type of filter (as long as you consider you work for free...). In this study: http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Filters.html#OilFilters ...the K&N filters were specifically cited as a problem, as they are manufactured by a company called Hi-Flo. The motorcycle had a constant lack of oil pressure. At $13 each, they are nearly 7 times as expensive as the WalMart filter and not as well rated.
  4. An important element of any filter is an anti-drainback valve. This valve is extremely important to keep at least *some* oil in the filter, to keep from having an oil-less cold start. It's surprising how few filters on the market actually have this feature. I would suspect the stock Honda filter has this valve, as I do not have an oil light staring me in the face after the bike starts in the morning. Has anyone experienced no oil pressure momentarily after start with any of these off-brand filters (especially interested in hearing about the cheapo WalMart branded filter)?
  5. It's tough to do Morse on the fly sometimes...how about ... - --- .--. / .-. .. -.. .. -. --. / -- -.-- / .- ... ... / -... .. - -.-. ....
  6. Welp...we certainly hope not
  7. Hiya Rob, Wow, I had no idea that you were this far along into this. As for my own excuse...I'm going through some major upheaval in my personal life (something else just happened last night that is going to cost BIG BUCKS to fix) so I haven't been on VFRD very much lately...apologies. You have captured me at the right time though, I always enjoy helping people. I wish I had kept a copy of those tracings...I knew I should have when I sent them to the gentleman in New York. The information you've found at shelby.net is the best I've seen. That's a LOT more information that I ever had...I just had to eyeball everything and trial fit it together. After a LOT of preparation that I thought I needed to do, the affair went in so easily I was quite surprised and a little ashamed that I had talked it up as being so difficult amongst my biker buddies. A few things to keep in mind: I do not ride pillion. I have a Penske rear shock, OAL stock plus 10 mm. This would account for the accessory dogbone that Wolf supplied. I have a 2Bros Ti header, not the stock header. Other than that, I think we're OK. I'll partially dis-assemble and take pics this weekend...I'm moving out of the house I've living in so it might take a little while. I understand there is quite a bit of pent-up demand in the VFR community for these (at the right price), I am surprised that nobody has decided to manufacture another limited run.
  8. OK! Thanks guy, I'll be on the lookout for a set of RC51 rotors. I liked the looks of the 929/954 rotors, but forgot about the 10mm extra diameter...d'oh. Like Swiffer, I believe what I'll do is start a thread, outlining exactly what parts I have in the front end and what it took to get them all together. Hopefully my digicam battery will hold up for that, it's been a pretty wet noodle lately. Thanks again for your help Safe-T. :D
  9. Many apologies Safe-T...but I've been looking back through this thread trying to find the correct type of rotor to be on the lookout for. I'm going to be using the GSXR1000 front end, with CBR954 upper triple and RC51 lower triple, and the RC51 wheel. Swiffer used a Marchesini Duc replacement. There's a RC wheel on eBay right now, without bearings, which would make for an easier job of fitting new bearings to fit the GSXR axle (I'm not going to pick up a Marchesini right now). However, I was wondering if the flange-to-flange width on Swiffer's Marchesini is the same dimension as the one on that RC front wheel? If it's wider, I can use a set of CBR929/954 front rotors I've found with a little spacing. If narrower...I might have to use the stock RC rotors, or perhaps the CBR1000 rotors, depending on offset. The wheel flange to flange dimension, and the rotor offset, are the major questions in this (tangled) missive...thanks anybody (including Safe-T) for your input on this.
  10. I agree Swiffer...although in real world outer-margin track performance the 4-pot Nissins might be better in one or several areas, for me personally they are just as comparable. I, like you, enjoy fiddling. I'm probably going to put off the front end for another year, I'm looking for RC51 front wheels and nearly all of them are around $300 on eBay...and I'm fooling with getting a Wolf slip-on to fit with the 2Bros Ti header. It's much more involved than I thought, but by no means impossible...and I'm a *&^*&(* perfectionist. That increases the difficulty factor by 10. I'm basically re-engineering what Wolf did. But I digress... I'll get to the front end soon.
  11. CBR600F4 would make sense. I'm looking for something that has enough hydraulic actuation leverage (piston size) to get 'er done with 12 pots (dual 6 pot calipers), while still looking like the clutch master. That's why that one caught my eye. I now know what I'm going to be looking for on eBay for the next few weeks. Unless, of course, Swiffer used the Hayabusa one because it worked with the brake setup from the donor bike? Hmm. Any reason why the stock master won't work? Not enough hydraulic pressure/too stiff to actuate?
  12. I think there is a ride report at the very end of the thread "Swiffer's new front end". He was very impressed with it, and I think Rick has been riding Murphy for some time now so he would be well qualified to comment.
  13. Jeez Monkey you're just having rotten luck. Can you use a stock RC51 upper triple at all? I'll be glad to GIVE that to you if Rick can't help you out...I don't need it since I was able to find a 954 upper triple. It's a shame a stock GSXR1000 set of triples won't work, since I have a low mile lower triple plus a Vortex upper rusting away in the basement for a 00-01 GSXR1000. Hey Monkey...what is that front brake master from? A 929/954? I would really want to use that style to make it look symmetrical to avoid what Swiffer was using temporarily there (all plastic master).
  14. Roger that...thanks Rick, you are (as always) appreciated.
