Hi Skids. Sounds like you're up to a lot of fun with gen5. Sorry can't help you much, but I think you're up for serious trouble sourcing "NGK Titanium spark plugs"! Reckon you're thinking of Iridium, the ones you want for a 5gen are CR9EHIX-9.
Could enjoy an ice cold Chang myself damn hot over here too.
Cheers.
I blame the beers. Of course I meant Iridium 🤦♂️

58 pages! I finally got round to reading every page, but then we are sat on a beach in 33°C / 91°F chillin’ with a few ice cold Changs so what better place to while away the hours!
Firstly, thanks doesn’t sound anywhere near enough to Lance and Darryl for continuing to provide the worldwide VFR community with such a fabulous product. Thanks also to all those others who have contributed.
Now that I have purchased and refreshed an 01 5th Gen and ridden for a brief few miles before the dreaded winter weather hit, I want to nail down what I plan to do and see if anyone with greater skills and experience than me can forsee any issues with what I’m considering.
1. 5th Gen WILD headers (I like that name), passivated, NGK Titanium spark plugs, currently have new OEM air filter but happy to buy the larger K&N as it looks worth it. Question whether there is a better option than the supplied Delkevic crush washers? Some folk seem to have been having issues.
2. Looking to purchase a high-mount GPR end can/muffler but slightly concerned with the potential fitting issue from the link pipe to the new headers due to differing diameters. I’m not aware of any specialist exhaust folk near me and don’t want to be left with all this beautiful kit lying on the bench because I can’t get 2 pipes to fit. And no, I possess neither the skills nor tools to DIY this. @sfdownhill (or anyone) – what’s the od at the back end of the WILD headers please? I can contact GPR and see what the id of their connector pipe is.
3. PCV or RBM? PCV costs £432, which RBM is likely to be best suited as they don't seem to id which kit for which bike like DJ do? Atm, I'll plan to purchase a PCV, update so it runs with the 01. I’ll try stock map first but then look to pay the $50 for the Attack map. Never tried to tune a bike like this before so am a little nervous about it. Currently discounting the RBM as I think it’s a little overkill for my needs/skills, but does depend on price and skill level required to fit. The bike will only be on the road from April to September, no track days, just ridden to enjoy.
4. O2 sensor set up – question; O2 eliminators on the front 2 sensor holes, PCV sensor on the rear one? Is this the way the PCV should be setup? 2 x O2 eliminators included with PCV. What connections does RBM require?
Sorry if most of these points have been covered but with $1500+ more being invested on a bike that has already (willingly) cost me an arm and a leg but one I do not plan to sell, ever, I need to make sure I get it right.
Any issues with what I'm planning, what have I missed or simply got wrong?
Finally, @sfd/duc2v4 - can you email me when you want the deposit please, I don't check in on this site every day and don't want to mess you around with a delayed payment.
Thanks.
Cheers.

Jumping onto this old thread but just picked up a Honda VFR1200F and called Honda Powersports to make sure recall repair was done and for me it was done in 2018. There were NO markings made on the bike to indicate that the repair had been done. Thankfully Honda kept good track of their recall repairs.
Glad it was sorted though.

Are these headers being produced again? If they are can I be placed on the current list? I have a 1998 Honda VFR.
It looks like it. I'm sure your name will be picked up and added to the list.

Hey Skids - a Power Commander, Rapid Bike, or other fuel management system is not required, but the VFR's engine exhales so differently with the WiLD headers that it would significantly diminish the effectiveness of the headers to not adjust the inhale [fueling] to match the new exhale [exhaust]. Guys have been getting good results using the Power Commander maps we had done for the headers on 5, 6, and 8 gens, so you can get 98.5% of the benefit of tuning without taking your VFR to the dyno.
But you will need a PC, RB, or other tuneable fuel management system.
Thanks m8.

To save trawling through 57 pages, could someone please reiterate whether a PC or other such device is required with this? It's been so long I've forgotten. Any other requirements - mounting etc?
Many thanks.

Beautiful bike.
What more does she need?

All of that 😂 And that perhaps reducing friction in a device that is designed around a specific coefficient of friction isn't a good idea, as it will ultimately reduce static friction force and load capacity of said device.
That's what I thought you meant! 😉

Sadly it's not just volume that kills yr hearing, the range of frequencies and tempo of exposure can really damage hearing as well. You can't always hear that, which is why, if you really want to protect yr hearing into yr old age, you need hearing protection if you ride a bike regularly.
My Shoei is supposed to be very quiet, but on the odd occasion I don't put the ear plugs in the noise is surprisingly loud.
I've stood on the flight deck of a US carrier (2 actually) during flight ops and the noise is immense. Also tried to sleep below the cat 🤣 no chance. My job didn't help but I've managed to only lose a small portion of higher frequencies so not too bad at the moment.
Staintunes are awesome, but then so is the DAM. But earplugs are a must for me.
YMMV

If anyone wants those flange nuts, get a group buy going & if you cover post the postage to USA I'll accept them in UK & post them for you. Best if sent to one US location & then sent USPS from their 👍
Beat me to it (easy to say after the event 😉).

That's really something for the UK!
High of 98F here in Charlotte, NC on Saturday. May try to escape to elevation, but the slog down to sea level to the car is tough after!
What climate change?
Due to reach 41/42 tomorrow.
-
Left it in the garage and took the car to work
Forecast was for 39 deg C / 102 deg F and that is no fun on a bike.

Looks like you left out the 7th Gen... If I could only have one, that would be it! Power of a toro-charged 800, and everyday reliability. Does not feel it's weight, and with LSL bars you can really row that thing through the corners! More comfy than the others too...and can still haul the beans fully loaded with a passenger. Way better brakes, easy exhaust valve adjustments, never a chain to clean/adjust/replace, and parts still available!
It's biggest downfall is the looks, and what people think of the weight, and range. They aren't really an issue in the real world, as opposed to what the numbers look like on paper.
Could not agree more.

Does anyone know if a reflash can still be done on the DCT model and if so, who does them?
I'm not sure if the DCT can be remotely flashed, but Stefan can remote flash the 1200F ECU so may be worth contacting him on FB.

If that’s Harris they told me the same as Kbear …. not in stock and 3-4 monthsNo, sorry, that was Skidmarx.
-
Just had a chat with them, none in stock but about 21 days to manufacture.
-
Have you considered Skidmarx?
I've not checked lead times but they look like they carry the attachments for the brake lines.
-
@Kbear reply from Mark at Harris: "Thanks for your email but I'm afraid we don't have stock and our supplier is really busy. Please allow 3-4 months for delivery."
Disappointing.
New 5th/6th/8th gen performance header now in production in USA
