  1. Update from my last post here.. I ordered OEM sprockets and 108 link EK-SRX chain what I received.. OEM sprockets for a ~1982 CB750 and 120 link EK-SRX chain with no master link After calling them up and explaining they apologised and said I would get an email with a printable return label to cover shipping, about 3 days later I received this, and sent it back I'm now waiting for it to arrive a second time >.> Also I dug through the item list for the importer that this company uses and found the item numbers for the VFR kit was ###-151 and the CB750 was ###-51, all other (6 ish) numbers were identical.. so I guess somebody was just in a hurry and didn't look closely enough. The missing master link was a mystery though. It's become quite the time waste as I wanted to have this done before I go back to uni, but at least they're being friendly and apologetic about it
  2. Random photoshop time! What we have here is essentially a 6th gen, CBR954 front fairing/forks/wheel and a Ducati 848/1*98 tail Achievable for something under $2k ontop of buying a Vtec Basically I'm bored and planning out what I would build when I suddenly come into money one day Under request from a few other bike enthusiasts to slim down the tail I went with an S1000RR, Sorry for the oversize, I ballsed up when saving it and don't wanna go back in just yet.. also it's red, and I threw in the A&A supercharger belt for funzies With this thread being called 'All Things Photochopped' I figured it was safe to drop them in here.. I may add/change a few more things but I don't want to make it too complex/impossibly custom [EDIT]: so.. I JUST realised that I put "V4 Gear Driven Cams" onto a 6th gen.. Makes about as much sense as the "V4 VTEC" sticker I have on my 5th
  3. I've recently started to be plagued by random clunking sounds as my chain smacks against the underside of the swingarm (at least I think that's what's happening). It could do with a tighten but as they start to stretch like this I always feel safer with a loose chain rather than risk the tight spot letting go. The sprockets look to be reasonably fine and the chain is visibly ok just stretching like a mad man First place I looked for new stuff is ebay, $130 for non o-ring sprocket and chain kits.. nope.jpg $180 ish for o-ring.. ehh, heavy duty would be preferred. I don't like unnecessary extra maintenance. $235+ for x-ring, some are questionable and over $250 was all legitimate brands with links to real stores Some of the questionable ones either had no master link or o-ring ones which makes me think they'd fail before the rest of the chain. Bit much, but this is Australia after all where everything is more expensive than it should be.. I found Motorcycle Accessories Australia had the best prices, using a discount code I found on another forum I got an EK X-ring chain, already at 108 links for me and OEM sprockets delivered for $216 AU Just waiting on muh package now so I can install it
  4. What about something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/290771655785 Maybe not exactly that one, but something similar, would require like 2 or 3 small screw holes for mounting and one for wiring.. I used a similar thing on my old 250, just hacked it apart to make it fit how I wanted I'm not sure how the underside of your tail is, but if my assumption is correct you might even be able to use weatherproof double sided tape and run the wiring underneath?
  5. Impressive, have you sorted out a tail light design or just gonna steal the F4i setup? There's plenty of room on the back there to make/fit an integrated light. Personally I hate the look of indicators that stick out either side
  6. pshh waterproofing. If rain is being forecast I just stick my gps (chinese noname 5" gps is my choice, replaceable for ~$50) in a ziplock sammich bag and them back into the mount. Not waterproof by any real means but so far has been 100% resistant to heavy rain. But if you really want to use an ipad instead of something smaller and cheaper then I'd recommend sitting it a tank bag's map holder as some others have mentioned. Much safer in there
  7. I've got myself a dubious chinese LED flasher relay, LED bulbs, full set of fairings, windscreen (replaced with ZeroG recently), levers, grips, bar ends, brake discs/pads, fuel cap, leathers (pakistani, not chinese) and now a tank bag So far I haven't been let down, well apart from the double bubble screen.. that thing was hideous, but served it's function well of pushing the air up and over my helmet. Just as long as you do your research properly, only going for things someone else has tried and tested first.. The new tank bag I got seems to be a 'Pro-Biker G-XZ-002' when I googled it but the ebay page showed no branding and it was shipped straight from china. It's a nice shape, the side pockets have like a semi-solid shell so that it holds it's shape which is nice. I didn't want something soft and squishy. Overall quality is great, more than you would expect from China Here, have a nice dodgy quality phone picture:
  8. If I had the money I would love a cheap run down 4th Gen that I could use as a track bike while keeping the 5th Gen safe from harm as my commuter
  9. Oh man.. this thread A week ago I decided to give her a clean, lubed the chain, filled the tank and tyres. Turns out I had 22psi in the back and 17psi in the front.. I had guessed they were a bit low, but damn >.> Filled them up to 32f/36b where I'd previously decided was a happy medium. Pulled back out of the driveway and it felt like I was sitting 2 inches higher up and it just wanted to fall over at the slightest touch. Next day went for a trip over the local mountains and had some fun
  10. @Keef: Yeah, it is kind of a classic look.. I can agree with that but it does sort of work with newer models too.. take this 2007 CBR1k as example (07 being my favourite year for CBR bodywork, 600 included). The height of the tail in this case is just a tiny bit higher than the tank but the angle is sloping forward by the same amount both on the tail and the tank. Since the VFR tank angles down just a little that means you can lift the tail higher to keep the lines matching, but further up than this would just look silly imo: [edit]: picture I linked kept breaking for some reason so I just attached it
  11. For aesthetic purposes, my opinion for the perfect height is for when the passenger seat or seat cowl top, lines up near perfectly with the top of the fuel tank both in height and angle like this RC45. I've never really understood the whole streetfighter tail up in the air thing, but if someone wants to explain it I'm all ears. Presumably something to do with ground clearance in wheelies or sitting comfortably for really long wheelies I guess.
  12. I say yay, but with Beck's pittures as reference rather than the originals.. and a full size tank grip instead of the thin bar
  13. --- Fair enough, I'll do just that. I generally consider university to be a safe (ish) spot compared to most places as there's always groups of people nearby and if anybody (especially another biker) sees a person cutting the strap off a helmet chances are they'd do something about it. The first part of last year I just carried it with me but found this remarkably annoying, second semester and the beginning of this year I just hung it on the mirror with no attachment at all, many others did the same and I never heard of one being stolen. I'm looking to transfer to a different campus next semester though, one I'm unfamiliar with and further from home so a little added security wouldn't be a terrible idea
  14. Worst crash I had was actually the day of my license training. So literally the first day I had ridden, passed all the initial skill training such as slalom, slow speed balance, emergency stops, figure 8's etc without issue. Crashed right near the end on the road due to loose gravel, poor visibility, trying to remember a set of 20 instructions for where to go and just inexperience.. not knowing what dangers to look for. Basically locked the front on the little bit of gravel and once it gripped the front wheel tucked under and the whole bike did a front flip (instructor was right behind me watching this take place.. apparently it was an impressive flip ) Anyways, I broke the fall with my right knee and left palm, had gloves on but only denim jeans so fractured the kneecap. Before I even stopped rolling I was on my feet and back to the bike to hit the killswitch since the throttle jammed against the road and it started revving up. I sat down for a minute before starting to seize up a little and noticing the blood on my leg. The bike was ok, more dents and scratches and both brake levers had snapped. I could still walk though, albeit painfully and it was a country town so the instructor argued with me for 10 mins until I agreed to swap bikes and ride back with him. After that fall I was really nervous about stepping up onto a shiny new red VTR250.. but got back fine. Obviously this is a pretty tame injury compared to those listed in this thread but for my first day I was still kinda shaken about it. 2 weeks later I limped back into the training centre, went back out for a half hour ride and got my restricted license. That was 4 years and about 55,000kms on two wheels ago, so I've learnt a lot more and had plenty of experience since.. but something tells me I'll always come back until the day I'm physically incapable of sitting on one.
  15. I tend to avoid the helmet lock on the side as it crushes the foam at the base by the way it hangs and can also get chain grease on it (got a nice grease stain on my ol' fluffy cover now) The mirror is my next choice, and with the aftermarket mirrors I have on there it sits very snugly with a good 5-6" of contact across the top of the mirror, so its not even as bad as putting your hand in and holding it up with a fist. If the handlebars are turned full left and locked with the key the right bar/brake lever sits inside the helmet too so there's something extra to catch if someone walks into it. When I start up at uni again next year I'm thinking of taking a little bicycle chain to put through the D-Rings and jacket to avoid possible theft while hangin on the front. I've seen quite a few that use a bicycle chain and leave it just sitting over the triples too.
