Dude, welcome! Have you modded your engine/exhaust at all? If not, get in touch with CandyRedRC46 for a free dyno run! He needs a relatively stock 6th gen in the Orlando area to compare his modded bike with on a same day, same dyno pull. Plus he has done an R1 front end swap and can likely answer a lot of your questions...

Depends on what it is worth to you... looks like the real deal, can't really see all the details, looks like someone added O2 bungs; sometimes, you'll see other make headers attached to a 2Bros or Erion can and people claim it is a full system. What are the tubing ID dimensions? How much are they asking? If it is a real Orion header in good shape $600 is not unreasonable to me... I'd like it better at $450

+1... it's a bike I'd love to have, but not in my cards right now.

Here in the U.S. police models often have different ECUs to unleash all available power... do the English law enforcement vehicles have different ECUs? BTW... congratulations on the new bike!

Mail Order Rvf 800 – Some Assembly Required…
Rush2112 replied to Rush2112's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
I'm using the 954 triangles and dogbone as recommended by Jamie and my shock is sprung/dampened for this linkage... based on my previous measurements the 929 shock was custom made to length to give me the same rear ride height as my current streetbike 5th gen which also has a DMr modified 929 that added ride height over stock. I'd have to go dig up my old notes to find out how much over stock but as a reference my rear tire is firmly on the ground when on the center stand. I did notice when I was in the garage recently it looks like my 954 triangles on my trackbike are upside down on the swingarm like I was trying to lower the ride height. I didn't do this on purpose, but I think I may have inadvertently given myself the ability to raise the rear even more if needed since I don't recall removing them since the shock length measurements were made. Hopefully, this weekend I'll get back in the garage and get the new bearings pressed in and the rear properly mounted for full confirmation of function.- 130 replies

Wow... you like to plan ahead!

Love your bike! Are you having any overheating issues that require the third rad? ... or is it more of a preventive measure?

+1... looks like Kawi components, could be ZX-14 with ZX-10 rim... can't tell if they are 4 or 6 piston calipers

Great looking bike and well done first post! Welcome to the forum.

+1... I run it through the gears too for the same reasons.

It's a 6th gen engine, the shorter rear primaries in combination with the long(er) front primaries spreads the torque curve out flatter with less of steep decline after peak torque output; the trade off is a lower peak HP. This set-up is less complicated, easier and cheaper to manufacture. I'm pretty confident their isn't any new Honda voodoo in the 8th gen engine and the previous generations merge configuration will produce the highest performance which is the purpose of the Tyga project. The rear primaries of the previous gens should work and the front primaries would need a few different bends. Are any of the members who have confirmed to me their committed to buy purchasing them for an 8th gen? Please let me know. Thanks... Russ

Do you have any pictures of that rear merge? That's directly applicable to my own DSSA VFR project. Are you suuuure that's true? The 8th gen bikes have dual radiators (like the RC/NC bikes), and on the NC anyway the front headers hug the cylinders to make room for the lower rad+fan. I suspect 5th gen headers on an 8th gen would interfere with the radiator, and 8th gen headers on a stock 5th gen would interfere with the coolant cross hose. I'm going to need to make some measurements on my dual-sided swingarm project, but I suspect I'll be in for a set, provided they can be modified. If nobody's ever seen Tyga's exhaust stuff, btw, they're really nice. I've got a set on my NC and love them. Peaking through the lower vent in the front lower fairing I guess it is possible that Honda trotted out a 15 year old main frame and engine design and then completely redesigned the exhaust to facilitate the more narrow profile of the side rads so we should measure to confirm. The exhaust is definitely revised as it has some new tubing visible in the area behind the right rear set. Good points... it will have to be investigated when Tyga is ready. I'm not sure how many 8th genners have signed on for the performance headers but we need to get the right info. The 8th gen headers are definitely a little different than the 6th gen in the back they merge before turning under the bike and the front appears to have the different bends you describe. Good catch, thanks. Yeow - Tyga is a group of very talented artisan guys, but its almost looking like a CAD composite model would be very useful to come up with one design to fit all.. --- Or a 5th/6th bike and an 8th bike for test builds.... The current mock-up bike that was available is a 6th gen so this would fit the side mount radiator VFR800s. The 8th gens may need a different set of front primaries.

Aw, Dude! I probably need to go the week before... we will need to figure this one out. Which bike(s) are you bringing? -
This is correct. I confirmed while researching the performance headers group buy, Black Widow is SBS re-branded with a new name.

Under normal conditions there's not a lot of water in the crank case. It doesn't take much to turn the oil a little milky looking, just ask anyone who has Seb's clutch cover window. Water & oil don't mix well and even in an emulsion it is in tiny droplets. Water always evaporates, even when it is ice, then condenses again somewhere else; as the temperature rises the rate of evaporation increases until 100C then it has to phase transition into steam and the steam is pushed out through the crank case ventilation and pulled through the throttle bodies and out the exhaust. The moisture in the crank case is a byproduct from the combustion of fuel and condenses in the cool engine and exhaust. Happens every time you start your engine whether it is Summer or Winter, just takes longer to heat up and boil off in the Winter. So the whole time the bike is warming up it is evaporating water out of the oil and making more from burning the fuel. By the time the oil is 100C the water is out of the oil and any new moisture is not going in... picture dripping water into 100C cooking oil (don't try it, trust me... it boils right back out spattering). Shut the engine off and let it cool and any steam left in the crank case condenses back down into the oil... happens in July or January as long the metal temp drops below the internal dew point of the air inside the crank case. If you live in a hot, dry climate the water may not condense but the moisture is still in the crank case. The problem is when people start their bike in the Winter and don't get the engine hot enough; they make more water from burning the fuel, especially in a cold engine, and they don't boil off what is already in the oil so they increase the water in the crank case over time. Depending on how cold it is it can take a long time to properly warm-up your engine in the Winter and most people who "turn it over every month" don't heat the engine up to proper operating temps. I take mine up to operating temps and rev it for a minute or two a couple times a Winter to "clear the exhaust",,, ... really, it is because I miss the sound

I made certain that it did not before I purchased a lot of 4 (or maybe 5) when I found them mis-labeled on ebay as VTR 800 Superhawk wind screens and the seller couldn't figure out why he had listed them thrice without a bid. How do you like the Puig DB? Looks like a nice wind screen. My ZG DB directed the wind flow right into my collar bones and shoulders freezing them on cold days and creating a lot of turbulence/noise under my Shoei chin bar. I switched back to stock because of it. I ask because judging by the awesome jacket I received at TMAC we're about the same size... ...except for your freakishly long arms
-
As mentioned, starting is not good due to condensation unless you run them enough to get your oil over 100 C and your exhaust pipes hot enough to boil off the moisture... although, your bikes should have stainless exhaust pipes so the latter is not as big an issue for you. Oil is usually 10C - 15C hotter than your coolant so if you run them until your fans comes on the oil is hot enough to boil off any moisture.

I'd be surprised if a regularly ridden 5th gen injectors needed to be removed and cleaned... they are a relatively large bore single hole injector, not like the later 6th gens with multiple small orifices. Were any of your old plugs that were removed sooty or wet with gas? -
