Strapping on the Wolfman tailbag

Recommended Posts

I asked about this at the VFR World forum but there seems to be a more active group here.

Needing to carry more than the panniers will handle, I bought a Wolfman waterproof tail bag two bikes ago, and the pic shows it on the R1200GS I had when I got the bag.  I can get it on my current ride, a '16 BMW F800GS, but the front tiedown points are not as nicely placed as they were on the GS.

I miss the ST1100 I had for a long time, and really want to get back on a Honda V4, so I've begun to revisit the Viffer scene.  I test rode on 18 months ago right before getting the F800GS.

But can I get that bag on and tied down safely?  This is the big question.

Today right before closing, I visited one of the Honda dealers in metro Denver that has some new 14s and 15s for sale.  I wanted to closely examine the bike for tiedown points.

I did not see much hope.  The pillion seat has a couple of fabric loops that really don't look substantial.  If I tie forward down on the frame adjacent the rear pegs I think it will pull my tailbag into my seating space.  At rear, I could probably get a metal shop to fab a strap that would bolt to the backside of the license plate bracket that would pick up my rear straps, but that whole plate holder bracket is really just a chunk of molded plastic.

What to do?

Strapping on?  Here's one idea for a strap-on ?  Seriously though, are the helmet holders a possibility?  How about the grab rails?

Those fabric loops from under the seat are very sturdy and made for attaching tail packs to

The centres are exactly the distance between my Kriega tail pack hooks

The brand is HELD and it held (...) up well since 1997, she now serves her time on the VF500  :-)

I did have to remove the "front" magnets in the side flaps as my thumb would get stuck (Hi Sweeper :goofy:).

But the 2 (each) remaining and the magnets in the base plate, I never experienced any issues.

One DOES has to always inspect and swipe any sand/particles to avoid scuffing. That is why I like the "click" system on my VTR so much.
