vtwindr
late to this. Just topped up my 2014 model. Again . I'm reckoning about 1l every 8-9000miles . Currently running 10w40 as well. No smoke. Maybe it's down to the British climate. In my experience my IL4s and 2s have never used much whereas my V2s and V4s have needed a bit every 2-3000 miles and more noticeable after riding them hard rather than winter commuting
Member Contributer Bent Posted August 8, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted August 8, 2016 Meanwhile back to the OP, RC79Scott, you know where I live and I use a synthetic 10W-40. It's just personal preference AFAIC but your weather is exactly the same as where I am and after owning two other VFR's, I see no reason to go down in vis. to 10W-30. It gets HOT around here and I do run my engine at high rpms in this heat. Never a problem yet with the "illegal" oil. FWIW.
Member Contributer 3dcycle Posted August 8, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted August 8, 2016 nothing changed in the motors. Honda went from 10w40 in 2006 to 10w30 in 2007 in everything. so IMO its more about efficiency then tighter ports or tolerances.
