  1. I had an 8th gen 2014-2017. Sold it as needed back surgery and kinda missed it since. Bought a BMW r9t scrambler which is a great bike but eats oil (5l of top ups in 10,000 miles) and it absolutely covers you in filth when riding in the wet and I live in UK so that's most of the year. So I found a 2 owner 2016 bike with 1400 miles (wtf?) for a test ride today. Dealer wants £7k for it. Rides good, back feels good but there was a bit of a whiney noise on deceleration which I don't remember previously , in 3rd/4th gear but it seemed to ride just fine and was in pretty good condition . Is the noise normal? Didn't have earplugs in as I wanted to listen to it, I think with plugs in I wouldn't have heard it
  2. not dissing you view but I find the VFR is fast enough for road use so unless you're gonna take it on a track consider slower. VFR is more than enough to keep up with my mates on faster bikes but maybe the roads in US aren't policed quite as vigorously as they are in UK. I find the W650 (a whopping 43hp) can be red-lined all day long causing huge grins but without troubling the local constabulary too much
  3. W650 here. Enjoy the scenery once in a while
  4. Ducati Glasgow publish their prices, that oil service is £268! Valves and bets + oil is pushing £1000
  5. took the Supersport for a test ride a month ago and was smitten. Had the VFR for 3 years now and fancied a change, there wasn't much in it, bit more agile, bit more torque low down but there were as many negatives, mirrors useless, small and vibrate like crazy, motor feels like it's gonna stall at very low speed and lots of false neutrals but it was new, shiny and different enough. Being sensible before I put the deposit down I ran some insurance quotes. despite being available for 2 weeks it hadn't hit any databases and I was drawing a lot of blanks, even with Ducatis own insurance. Average of the quotes was around £900 with some over £1500. My VFR is £200 with business use! Scanning the Ducati forums this seems to be a Worldwide issue with hardly anyone getting reasonable quotes. I ran a few other bikes through the sites and could get 160hp sportsbikes for £300 or the 150hp MT10 for £250 so this is a Ducati problem. Remember the supersport is only 114hp. Anyhow it gave me time to think about it some more and I started to trawl more fora, tales of stuck exhaust valves, engine failure, electrical failure and the servicing! Wow. Fine if you only ride 2000miles/yr but I could pay for a new bike after 3-4years worth of servicing. And belts? Every 2yrs? What's all that about? So the upshot of it is I'm gonna buy some new rubber for the VFR and stick with it . Ducati is out of my system . A close escape thanks to their failure to register it with the insurers
  6. yep, we get that as well it goes Pleasure Commute Business but even though my business use is essentially commuting within the workday that doesn't count. It's not like I'm delivering pizza on it
  7. I wish nah the VFR is 250 The Supersport is 1031 I use the bike for work sometimes and visit patients houses on it which means I need extra insurance in case I have an accident whilst on work related trips. Another way for insurers to screw us over
  8. well I'm having back surgery end of April so will be off the bike for a while. Hopefully when it's been out for a couple of months and people with less sense and more money have taken the insurance hit and hopefully not binned them then the insurance companies will get a grip and make a more realistic quote. Honestly there's very little in it between the SS and the VFR other than the SS takes off a bit earlier
  9. V2s lumpy low down? They all do that Sir Well I almost pulled the trigger. Negotiated an acceptable part-ex with the dealer, got a humph of approval from my wife, rang the insurance........ Nope not on our database yet tried some comparison sites, not on there either tried Ducati insurance .... not on their database! rang the dealer, they have their own insurers and finally got a price wait for it...... (47yrs old , 10yrs + NCB, crrent price for the VFR is £250 with business use as well) ... ....... £1031 without business which means I can't ride it to work on sunny days for now my Ducati dreams are on hold (I can get a Multistrada 1200 insured for 300!)
  10. it's an older gentlemans sports bike IMHO
  11. I took one out today. I was with a mate who took a Multistrada as well I'll copy my thoughts from another site It was fab HOWEVER the V-twin thing I don't get, lumpy as feck low down just like the V-strom. Sounds good, lots of popping on the overrun though not as deep and throaty as the VFR with the Remus. Not much in it power wise (113bhp for the Duc vs 104) but that power on the Duc is there from the off wheras the VFR is sedateish until you hit that VTEC. I thought I got the VTEC to kick in on the Duc but it was actually cutting out at the redline (NEVER BUY AN EX_DEMO BIKE) The more I rode it the more fun it was though Stuart(bless him) kept wandering off and getting lost so I had a great time trying to find him. Eventually I tracked him down at a charity shop in Waddington where we had a brew and swapped bikes. Unfortunately the Multi demo was gubbed, GOK what was wrong but no throttle response and wouldn't rev over 6k. Absolutely knacked but the handling was very good when it was moving so I see why John C Brown is so bloody hard to catch . I'd also say the Supersports handling was superb, on rails etc but then I wonder if some new tyres on the VFR might help even things up a tadScores on the doorsSexiness Duc 10 VFR 8Speediness Duc 10 VFR 8Soundtrack Duc 8 VFR 10Tank range (Yawn) Duc 150 VFR 200Comfort (wrists/bum/legroom) Duc 9 VFR 7 Handling Duc 10 VFR 7Price Duc howfeckingmuch?? VFR I suppose I'm paying for Honda qualityStuart dropped me at lunchtime as he had to go and pick his dentures up so I had a run with his mate Dave through Bowland (chasing him on his Monster 1200R) which made me think again that the VFR is a fine bike 3 modes on a 115bhp - why bother? I wacked it in sport and left it at thatQuickshifter /downshifter autoblipper? Not on the roads, pointless. \\\\\\\\\might be OK on a track but I found it awkward and jerky and defaulted to using the clutch. wish they'd left off the Quickshiter gubbins and put the Ohlins on the standard bike Oh, and te display is dull dull dull Would I buy one? In a heartbeat but it is not that much a better bike over the VFR. You only live once though. Better start the plan of nagging. I've got her captive on a plane for 8hrs next week.....
  12. Just like mine were . I use an independent now who gives them a good coating in red rubber grease each service and the new ones have been fine
  13. Have you tried your local dealer? There have been a few claims on 2014 bikes, show 'em this page, they might allow it. No harm in asking
  14. never did get an answer but replacements have been fine
  15. Christ no, don't get FS365 on your pads . They won't bind but they won't stop you either
  16. this kinda thing then
  17. Remus is lovely
  18. catching last few days of UK "summer"
  19. I had new calipers after 6 months due to corroded pistons. Long thread on here about it, there were a few others in UK with same. I bought mine new around 2 months after they were released in the UK
  20. no noise on mine but with previous bikes have used MRA spoiler screen with good results
  21. late to this. Just topped up my 2014 model. Again . I'm reckoning about 1l every 8-9000miles . Currently running 10w40 as well. No smoke. Maybe it's down to the British climate. In my experience my IL4s and 2s have never used much whereas my V2s and V4s have needed a bit every 2-3000 miles and more noticeable after riding them hard rather than winter commuting
  22. it's an alloy gasket, mine stayed on the front pipe and to all intents looked like part of the pipe until I started prodding at it with a screwdriver and it started to break up. For other people they have stayed in the end can when it's been removed so I guess that's where yours is
  23. remove the gasket. I fell for that with my Remus
