Hi All

Just brought a 5th gen with 31,000 kms on it, that's about 20,000 miles for US$5650 which was more than I wanted to spend but it was a 5th gen with super low miles so I spent the extra. This is the most I've ever spent on a vehicle and it's the newest I've owned

I've moved to this from an '88 GSX1100F (Katana in the US). I wanted a sports tourer that was more sports than my 1100. I was looking at RF900's and came across an article that was RF900 vs VFR750 and I really liked the sound of the VFR. 20 years ago when I was a student I had an '84 CB400n and an '80 CB900 so I'm not biased to Suzuki and I thought I'd try some VFR's as well as the RF's. The RF wasn't very comfortable but it had a lot of poke ...and they were cheap. A friend has an '87 VFR400 he was over having a beer and he was really keen to hear I was looking at VFR's.

Long story short I found this one for sale, took it for a ride up the port hills which I've ridden often went back and handed the money over.

I'm about to go to the 5th gen forum and ask about the regulator and any other things I should do with it. I figure I should own at least 1 reliable vehicle during my lifetime.

This is my daily driver http://www.retrotech.co.nz/Projects/New-Van.php

This is my project car http://www.retrotech.co.nz/Projects/nismocapri.php

Cheers

Simon

Thanks!

Heading home to take off the wingrack (keeping it but it will stay off most of the time) and see if I can find the rattle at the bottom....

Welcome to VFRD from the northern hemisphere

The rattle below may be too loose a chain (or worn one/sprockets)

Thanks all for the warm welcome =-)

Frogfoot, if you do stop in for a beer

Dutchy, back sprocket looks OK, haven't checked the front yet or the chain, thanks for the suggestion.

The faring is well in the way for any looking so I didn't get very far there. It's also due an oil change going to have a good poke around on the weekend

Yeah the silver looks good. Looks better now I removed some stickers like, wear a helmet, use unleaded (we only have unleaded) and how to check the chain. There's the Honda wings on the tank, VFR at the bottom and Honda under the windscreen... If only I could find a factory silver seat cowl

The rattle turned out to be that the front left cylinder was missing an exhaust flange nut, easy fix =-)

NZ's South Island is one of the most beautiful places I've been to. Welcome.

Liked your projects, as I'm a car builder myself... I've once seen an Escort Van like your's with S2000 running gear. What an obscenely fun car!

Esky with S2000 gear would be sweet! Do you have any pics or vids?

I could only find it on Facebook, but here's a link. If you search on Youtube there are several S2K conversions into Escorts. Some wilder than others. Works well in AE86's (Especially if LHD because of the steering column fouling the exhaust manifolds, but it has been done). Can use the F20C's engine harness, computer & instrumentation. Just need to find a good crashed S2000 for spares...

If you see this, you might start hatching other plans for your van.... temptation!

If I post a link, it doesn't seem to work, so search Facebook for Newera Imports, there's a post on there, right at the top for you to view the video at (Link has been deleted after 1 day, since it's not part of what the company does).
