PC III USB, Cozye's Map, Face Plate Buttons

In one of his posts, Cozye mentioned slightly leaning out his map settings when running stock exhaust.

Anyone tried doing this with the PC Face Plate Buttons?

Looks like it would be easy to lean the low and medium rpm range 2 percent.

Might improve gas mileage somewhat without adversly affecting performance.

2004 with:

K&N, O2 Eliminators, stock exhaust, Pair Valves disabled, PC III USB running Cozye's map, too much time to think.

70 views and no response.

So....

Let me try this again and see what I am doing wrong.

Has no one tried using the face plate buttons?

Seems easy to do, easily reversible, doesn't change the original map.

Am I missing some reason not to do it?

Is this an idea that I should just forget?

While no one trying it isn't a complete surprise, (I really did think someone would have), no comments at all was a surprise. I felt at least a few opinions would be voiced.

It's going to be rainy and cold here for a week, but I think I will give it a try when the weather breaks.

A short ride should be enough to see what happens to performance.

If all seems good, one tank of gas should answer the fuel consumption question.

Sometimes it takes a day or two for a response on some topics, especially is it's good riding weather, more people on the road than at their computer. That being said, I thought there was a post here on VFRD or maybe it was VFRW that went over this procedure, you might try doing some more forum searching on both sites.

Good luck, I hope you find a resolution.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. :fing02:

If there was no activity on the site, I would agree with what you are saying, but the thread has had over 90 views with one response.

It isn't like no one has read the post. Just that no one but you responded.

I would be very interested in any posts that went over actual results of using the buttons to tweak/over-ride the PC map.

Most of the posts I found about face plate buttons were my own and I know I don't know what I am talking about.

If you are referring to posts about how to access and use the face plate buttons, I feel comfortable with being able to do that.

What I was really wondering was what the results were. Looks like I will have to do my own experimenting when better weather returns.

I did learn and start pushin those buttons an wished I hadn't, I'll say why at the end.

Its super easy though and maybe you did it already... But... with bike off get fingers ready to push and hold the three buttons at the same time as turn key to on. When lights done doin their dance, move the lights up with a push or down with a hold. Up is more fuel, down is less. You can adjust any of the three in one go round, no need to turn bike off an repeat to adjust a new rpm range. Done.

So, if I knew where the lights were to begin with I wouldn't feel bad about messing with mine. Going through previously mentioned process does not show where the lights were, doing that process starts the lights at the center of the the fuel button adjustability range. So it is impossible to get it back to where it was unless you know where they are before hand. Since I didnt know, i put them at the center. I rode for less than week poppin an back firen, checkin with a friend or two askin "it smells rich huh ?" "yea" "i thought so too". So i go back in an adjust a couple lights down across the range (leavin high RPM a light richer), Two days later same thing, go back and adjust down again, and again, by the time im done low an mid RPM range lights are bottomed, high RPM range are two from bottom, i dont go high RPM/ or (not and) VTEC very often an she only gives a pop comen off the freeway but not always. I dont know what map my bike has, I want the good fuel mileage one, but I wont touch the buttons again, and I haven't got software to install some map...So thats my button pusher story.

I say one or two light clicks down is such a small fuel adjustment for mileage concerns that its not worth it, by the time a tank of gas is used the adjustment made a difference of one cup of fuel, maybe a bit more but not a pint is saved per tank...

You can download the software and several maps from the Dynojet site.

http://www.dynojet.com/

You can also download Cozye's map here at VFRD.

It seemed like there was little or no interest in my original post so I didn't bother to post any follow-up.

Probably should have.

Anyway, I'm running Cozye's map with the buttons/lights in the neutral position.

I tried leaning the PC by one bar in the two lower ranges and felt like it made the throttle response a little more abrupt.

I didn't like it so one short test ride and back to the neutral position. Never bothered to leave it long enough to check mileage.

FWIW, install Cozye's map and leave things alone.

Throttle response is great, mileage is in the 40+ range when cruising which is about the same as it was stock.

It is easy to drop it into the 30's with aggressive riding. There again, that happened with the stock set-up.

Keeping out of the Vtech seems to be the best way to improve mileage. Easier said than done.

I did it, and it runs way better. The map install part was stupid easy, stupid to not figure it out sooner. Its been a week or so, and my bike has a few more mods than I could find a "perfect" map for but one of the one's you suggested was close enough. My cat has been gutted was the major difference in the mods list of the map I chose. I didnt realize before the stock exhaust you had mentioned. But thanks for swift kick.
