keny Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Well looks after all that theory #1, corrosion, is the reason for the worn cam chain as cylinder walls VID_20250301_152301.mp4 as seen in the video there is a lot of piston play, thing is the pistons are in speck but rings has wear, the cylinder walls has big wear, it's oval to, the head is actually ok, cam bearing surface are ok, no big wear or sign of bad oil there, also no sign of valve seals leaking thro oil (the carbon buildup is from oil coming through piston rings), however there is sign's of corrosion under the valve cups at valve chims. This give the conclusion the bike has been stored in a environment that has made condensation inside engine that has made cylinder walls rust as cam chain. The thing that supports this is that there is sign's brown red fluid has come from the engine breather type into air filter box. So the engine CSI is ready, a healthy cylinder group whit pistons has been ordered. Quote
keny Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Had a few bits I bought this weekend Fist a ZR7S meter combination Paid 20€ for this one including the speedo wire, not bad, will be for the 550 zephyr Then paid 50€ for a good set of ZR7S top fairings Has a few small chips in paint but no cracks, my other has a crack. Sure my bike is Red, I like the blue version better actually and think I'm going to just put them on and see how it looks And the secondhand cylinders for the ZR7S should arrive today... 2 Quote
keny Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 I guess the ZR7S needs new sprockets as chain to...... Indeed worn out 2 Quote
keny Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 Now this starts to look like a nut and bolt restauration...... But actually just a cam chain change, whit out using a link, and to check engine condition further same time..... 2 Quote
keny Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 Season 2025 opened today, not that warm but sunny and roads not that bad The trusty F2 CBR did fine Quote
keny Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 I had plans to do the first ride of season on the SevenFifty but even I knew it didn't run perfect efter sitting some time (even it had done it after a full service my friend did to it) I was hoping magic fluid in the fuel would sort it like on the CBRF2 the other year, but not with the SevenFifty, did only did run whit choke on after sitting a few months more. So.... And indeed idle jets clogged... The rest looks fine through. So some ultrasonic clean is needed Quote
keny Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 Well been busy, then weather got cold so no test ride could be done, even the SevenFifty was back together. But today finally did a test ride, sadly not midday as temps where summer like and sun shining, but not to bad temp wise but roads were wet after some rain late afternoon So how did it run and how did I like it? Well didn't run perfect but better as I rode it, but I think it will need new sparkplugs to run good. As a bike there is thing's I like as not. Engine pulls great, just struggling at lower rpm, that can be a issue aside plugs ( sounds it's not running on all 4 below 3k) from the fact that a former owner has liked a loud bike and taken out the internals from the original silencers, so they are open as Loud! Not a things I like as prefer. The brakes are good, so my rebuild is a success. It's a relatively fast steering motorcycle, a thing I like, but fork is a but soft feeling and don't help how confident the ride feel's. Ride position is not as good as the ZR7S, mainly knee angel is tighter. I'm also used to motorcycle whit top or full fairing so no wind protection feels a bit odd but guess it's a thing you can get used to? So now new sparkplugs and some more riding to then decide is this a motorcycle that I will love or list. If I turn to love it might change to rubber that feels better in the wet The Road 5 I got for the ZR7S where great rubber... Quote
keny Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Monday morning garage time, noticed the front front engine bolts where mounted wrong way so nuts was on outside, so decided to turn them around. They are not orginal even 3 nuts are orginal looking. Sure this is a sign the engine been out? Anyway as the bolt was out it was clear new ones was needed In picture also left lower bolt that had corrosion outside as is a black one not zinked, I had a Honda bolt for it and aftermarket zinked for the other A small upgrade that is good if I decided to list it instead of love it. First is to change the sparkplugs and then a other test ride, then the big question if continue to love it or not. The biggest issue is the exhaust, even orginal it's loud, really Loud! Reason is the silencers are messed whit More than half of the silencer is just a empty space, and as design is so it's solid from cylinder head to end (only left as right side can be separated) you don't find second hand silencers for sale. Marving makes a aftermarket kit that use stock headers after you cut them off, but cheapest I found (thro new) are 400€, Second had full systems are a bit cheaper on eBay from Japan! The tank has corrosion inside, perhaps savable whit treatment? The fire tap only works in reserv mode even if you take it off the tank both works fine, weird. So decisions to be made..... And if you wounder why get a bike you don't know if you will keep, well I traded straight my FJ1200, that I had decided to sell anyway, but a CB SevenFifty is a far more easily sold motorcycle than a FJ unless you sell the FJ really cheap, as you find them for sale easy for less than a grand where I live, where the SevenFifty usually sell for about 2k€! And add I was curious what kind of motorcycle the SevenFifty is! Actually a motorcycle I could think keeping but the state of it concerns mostly. Quote

keny Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 So today's morning did 2 things, did change the Sparkplugs on the SevenFifty, and mounted a better tire on the CBRF2 rear wheel Not matching as a Dunlop GPR300, did take off the PP Michelin as it had a deep cut and Michelin PP has a thin carcass so didn't want to risk even was a bit left to wear bar. The Dunlop was actually bought for the Bandit 600 as a set whit matching front, both has seen a track day and got them really cheap, but I traded (last year) the Bandit for the ZR7S (sadly, shouldn't had) before I got these so they been around. Next was a test ride to see if the SevenFifty did run any better whit fresh sparkplugs, first to jobb to was the mud off it from last ride, fortune sun today even a bit chilly Sadly it didn't run much better so needs carbs off one more time to look what I find, running like a champ above 4k rpm through Quote
keny Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 The SevenFifty is ready for a new test ride but weather turned cold so not made yet. But guess what happens if you find something interesting whit a good service history and a friend borrows a van... Yes, it follows you home 1997 Honda Transalp 600, the one I bought it from has had it the last 11 year's and been peaky on service, chain & sprockets are new from 6k kms ago and it has a scottoiler. Rear tire is new, front half worn but a new came along. Carburetor inlet rubbers are new 2 years ago as rear brake caliper rebuild, front calipers are rebuild 4 years ago. It's first year the Transalp has 2 brake disc front so it actually has good brakes.it has some nice extras like top bag, hard side cases as racks, central stand, crash bars, volt meter, power outtake for charging phone or navigatör as hearted grips. But most important the front sprocket axle splines are in good condition. Ist picture nice but some former owner before the one I bought it from has made patina look whit not so great success, so I will probably repaint it next winter, and have a idea what will be the color scheme.... It's a bit more camped in my garage again, one needs to go I think. And one more thing, the seller is a Italian motorcycle friend, his garage had 2 of them, one in party's as ongoing project as other looked like this His other 8 bikes he store somewhere else an incline a CBX1000 (6 cylinder) as a Benelli 6 cylinder one... Shame I could not see them... 1 Quote
keny Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 A small update Had 3/7 of my current bikes out in the sun Sunday morning 2 of them got a ride in the afternoon even it became cloudy, did rain a bit actually. So the SevenFifty is tested again and even mix scruves are more out didn't dramatically differ even slightly better. Next is to get the baffles from the second hand silencers I bought into the onec on the bike if possible or if not cut the current off and weld back the one I bought, if that doesn't help then I think I need to separate the carbs from each other and was them in the ultrasonic cleaner really good... The Transalp was as fun to ride as the 10 year older edition I had. Some choices to be made, if I change the new front tire under or get something more dirt worthy 🤔 I noticed that the rear brake caliper bolts was a tad corroded as I bought it, the upper looked familiar to the one on a old cr125 rear caliper I have in a parts box, and to my surprise it's same bolt used by parts number, so I have a good one around 😊 The scottoiler tube to rear wheel is not so we'll mounted, well it's mounted whit just street ride in mind, so need to sort that The current screen whit additional part is not a thing I actually like that much I actually got the OEM along But need fairing off to change it, as the mounts are not orginal and you can't access them whit fairing on..... So a thing for next winter as fairings needs to be taken off to be painted anyway... I have some ideas for colorshcames for it Upper is 50 Anniversary color, same as the 87 actually, could be nice in white instead of silver as 87 also came whit. Lower is 89/90 color chame 🤔 As if I would customize the 89/90 a bit by making the lower strip red? A not so good test edit on cellphone, but give a idea 1 Quote
keny Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Well, my motorcycle number is down to 6 again Bye bye 1992 Honda CBR600F2 In picture new owner on way after deal is done, I wish him happy milage this summer 1 Quote

keny Posted May 10 Author Posted May 10 Some updates on Transalp The not so good routing of the scottoiler tube is sorted. Less risk something grabbing it offroad The brake caliper bolts rear look better now And did put the orginal reflector holder on whit a new same shape rear reflector as the orginal lens was missing I really don't think the round one suited the bike Well as I told you some former owner had made patina look whit not so good results (Franklin disaster results) here some tasters of that I just can't understand why, I tried to polish them whit scratch repair compound but really don't work to well, actually looks there are some deeper that comes out, could be they tried to cover whit making more? Still stupid in my opinion, so yes, next winter a respray, now I want to enjoy it! Quote
keny Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 On Sunday out whit 2 friends for some gravel road fun 5h ride, was sure fun through I do need some more off-road worthy rubber than the Metzler Tourance I now have, at least for the front, but big dilemma what to get as I know I will ride a lot of tarmac as well and don't want to sacrifice that performance to much ither 2 Quote
keny Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 Today I did adjust the rear brake pedal of the Transalp as it was adjusted way to low for me, then early afternoon a spin on local twisty road's And I just have to stop in a special cafe, this time for a ice cream Quote
keny Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 Last weekend didn't work on my own bike's, helped a friend to rebuild a Suzuki 50cc moped engine (PV50) Rebuild is total, new crank, new bearing everywhere, new cylinder as piston. Also the gearbox is upgraded to 5 speed as the speed limit where I live did make importer take out 5th gear of every engine! The rebuild was not completed throw as clutch hub was to worn and needed replacement so will put it 100% together as I get that. Did also go on a ride whit Transalp on Sunday, a bit gravel roads first then stopped at a friend and from there twisty tarmac road's to our favorite cafe This friend rides a FJR, through he has a Hayabusa, TL1000S, Aprilia Capnore as 2 VF1000Fs! Today I was shocked as I arrived home Quit a box outside my door! I was waiting for the new front tire for the Transalp, and yes, inside the box was that One tire! The rear tire arrived last week, only wrapped in plastic a bit compromise on/off tires, and a bit budget to, but know the front works well if mounted opposite direction as arrow suggest! Rear is a test to see what it is, if garbage I just put the Tourance back on most likely. But a good looking couple, I need to spoon them on now, nice that the Transalp has a center stand, way more easy Quote
keny Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Today's weather prognosis was so good, Sunny as +20°C so decided to take the Transalp to work even a bit cloudy as chilly in the morning And after work a one hour detour on twisty roads What a delight! Quote
keny Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 Small updates on Transalp, front tire mounted Did also have front sprocket off to put cupper grease on the splines as it's recommend. Former owner was a person that did mount all dry, front sprocket as front caliper bolts as front axle, that all now lubed whit grease. Then decided to change engine oil to right 10w40 semisynthetic instead of the 15w50 synthetic ester that former owner had put into it, was also Motul oil, a brand I have had issues whit actually. As bottom cover was off decided to change the different head bolt's to once whit same size head , so only one socket needed next time, 8mm one Did then do a scrub in ride of front tire, but no documentation of than through.... Quote
keny Posted June 1 Author Posted June 1 You gotta scrub in fresh rubber, right So a ride to nice cafe one more time 😎 Whit pillion this time 1 Quote
keny Posted June 5 Author Posted June 5 Came in the mail today For the Transalp cosmetic upgrade next winter 2 Quote
keny Posted June 8 Author Posted June 8 Out whit a friend today hunting twisty road's .... tarmac 99% today.., Only 3 stops, fuel, cafe as a other cafe, can't complain the weather to, excellent 1 Quote
