Can you guys tell me why? I've never seen one fail. Heck...1/2 of my R1 track bike fuel tank was JB Weld!
Member Contributer Captain 80s Posted February 3, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted February 3, 2022 Think it has to do with how it was damaged, the material, the prep, and what your trying to keep out / in. I honestly think you have been lucky. Or not enough time has elapsed. I've done quite a few repairs with damn good prep, hoping for the best. They all eventually failed. Oil and gas. Some took a very long time... but finally failed allowing a "seep". They didn't just fall off in one big blob, just finally got moist. But if it's working, cool! I just don't want it to be "the time" where I'm not close to anything and have to "deal" with it. Would rather actually fix it. I get it on a race bike. Patch it up and if it passes tech, great. Don't care how it looks, likely gonna get rashed again anyway. And my race bike trailer is just over there in the pits.

Unless you ride with Nomex underwear JB Weld is not a weld and therefore not a permanent fix for petroleum tanks because its petroleum resistance not petroleum proof...
