Blake
The Honda service manual says to remove the clutch slave cylinder before removing the alternator cover to rotate the engine. Is this necessary? The two covers are not connected so what take the clutch slave off? Anyone know? thanks Blake
jeremyr62
In this the manual is accurate. You can't get the alternator cover off without removing the gearbox sprocket cover off.

squirrelman
might be easiest to just put trans in 5th gear and bump the reaR WHEEL AROUND.....or use the starter to turn engine.

Tyy
Nice tip, if you want to make your life easier when removing those covers, is to keep the short bolts on the clutch slave cylinder in. This way the piston or whatever doesnt get bottomed out. The sprocket cover and clutch cylinder should be together when you remove it. I do believe the bottom right bolt on the slave cylinder is the only one you need to remove.
squirrelman
Problems could be related to overflowing float bowl (gas smell), maybe a float needle problem ? Try draining the carbs to clear out rust or debris or water.
