  1. I recently purchased a red 2002 VFR800 and I am absolutely loving it! It hides its age extremely well except for one thing (which tends to be an eye sore for me); the big outdated under tail exhausts. Another issue I have with my motorcycle is it is just no loud enough. I run with a Stain-tune cat back exhaust (without the baffles) and also have the stock exhaust. Now I know I can have a custom exhaust fabricated or use a more modern style rear exhaust setup (like repurposing a R1 or Ducati TOCE setup for the VFR) and this would fix both of my issues (make it louder and get rid of the dated look, but I am a university student on a pretty tight budget when it comes to throwing money on a bike. The alternative to this is running with a cheap slip on exhaust which comes out the side. The issue with this would be the gaping hole under the tail where the old cans used to be; this just makes the motorcycle look like something is off about it. What I am proposing is to get an affordable slip on and put that on the side, and fabricate a piece to go under the tail. I would fabricate this by first making a mold around the empty tail with cardboard, filling it with expanding foam, shaving it down to fit the bike, going over the foam with fibreglass, and finally paint matching with the Italian Red Honda paint. I could also have the fibreglass part painted at a shop if it would be cheaper. I have listed the rough price estimate and a getto mock of the final product (slip on not included in the mock up). I would love to get your guys opinion on this, the level of difficulty this would be, and if this is a pipe dream or something that is actually realistic and a good idea. Thanks. Cost Estimate: - Shorty Slip On Exhaust - $100 CAD - Expanding Foam - $10 CAD - Cardboard - Free - Sandpaper and Files - Free - Fibreglass Repair Kit - $40 CAD - Primer - $10 CAD - Honda Paint - $35 CAD - Clear Coat - $15 CAD - Total - $210 Motorcycle Mockup:
  2. Hello all! Just wanted to share a quick appearance upgrade! My chain guard was becoming quite the eyesore so I decided to do something about it, With some Carbon Fiber 3M Vinyl Wrap and some chemical resistant gloss white engine enamel I was able to walk away with this gem! It is important to note that I switched over from conventional chain lube that flings everywhere to Dupont Chain Saver Wax-Based Chain Lube based on multiple recommendations. And I gotta say that the stuff is pretty amazing! No mess, no hassle and great lubrication! It keeps my pretty white chain cover, well, pretty and white!😍 Anyways, enjoy!
  3. It’s actually dark blue on the sidedsides , numberd are white inplace of red... Guyes, something to ponder for a very Reasonable price ... bluegauges.com
  4. Welcome! This will be a thread where I show off the finished product(s) of my VF500 Resto-mod. I will only be featuring work I have done or modified myself. I will not be including specifics on how I did things here, but I will answer smaller questions. If you too are working on a VF500 you may want to see my other thread where I've been back and forth asking questions to the forum on how to solve problems with my build. My motorcycle is a 1984 VF500F. I picked it up with 56,000km on it. I have been restoring it inside and out. I am replacing parts that I think are outdated, for the purpose of either making it look better or preform better. Besides bolstering the performance I am changing the look of the bike from it's boxy-retro look, and into a bit of a streetfighter or cafe-racer. One thing you will notice about this build is that it is not going to be a perfect show-bike finish. The simple answer to this is the fact that I can not afford the tools or materials, nor do I have the expertise to do it anyways. This bike is ultra-low budget. Wheels I sanded down the old paint and metal. I fitted modern radial tires that give it a lower profile (and in my opinion a cleaner look). Then I painted the red and white using Duplicolor wheel spray paint. Seat Being vertically challenged, I reshaped the foam of the seat while I was recovering it with new vinyl. Handlebars/Mirrors I pulled the cores out of the stock handlebars so that I can fit bar-end mirrors. Used a drill, tap and a slide hammer. Mirrors are in the mail. Carburetors After cleaning the carbs I put bigger jets in to accommodate a straight pipe and K&N air filter. I also did a mod that Dutchy taught me about where you drill an additional fuel line, to prevent a lean mixture on the fourth and third carb. Fourth carb with jets and extra fuel-in^
  5. Hello VFRD community. Quite long time not riding my VFR, so that's why I have not many thing to post up here in my beloved VFRD site. But this one is motorcycle related and sure will be very helpful for VFR owners. I was playing around with motorcycles for a while, and all my maint, mod information of all my bike I record in an Excel file. The file is very informative, become bigger and bigger... But then I found it is very inconvenience to keep doing so. Especially in this smartphone and social interactive age. So that I made an application which records all my Maint and Mods. And soon I realized everyone should be able to enjoy it as well. That's why the Ride-Smarter application is now published. By-Biker-for-Bikers Apps. Main idea of the application is to manage everything related to your motorcycle and your riding. Now we have this apps available as WEB APPS - so any smartphone, tablet, computer all can access. There are some main features of the apps as below: 1. GARAGE MANAGEMENT: In MY GARAGE menu, you can add all your bikes in your garage to the apps, it will store all information related to each respective bike of yours (number plate, purchase date, price, etc...). Open the Apps anytime, anywhere, you can feel somehow you are sitting in your garage. LOL 2. MODIFICATION MANAGEMENT: When you click on any bike of yours (RIDE IT), it will come to the Modification and Maintenance stuff of that bike. With MODIFICATION, you will be able to add your Farkles with all necessary information: ODO at the time you install, name, brand, cost, etc... And with only one click, you can see all the farkles you added to your bike. Unlike before, when someone asked, you need a while to remember, or pull your spreadsheet on.... And interestingly, all the Mod will come with its photo. 3. MAINTENANCE ADMINISTRATION: Pretty the same as Modification. You can add all kind of your bike Maintenance into the system for recording, tracking and especially reminder. If you have your mechanic shop to do your bike Maintenance, this is very useful. Show the Maint page of this Apps to the shop, and tell them when was the last Maint, what have been done, and even show them the cost. If you do your bike maintenance by your own, this apps even MUCH MUCH MORE USEFUL. This keep track of all your maint things, and you can use it as a Maintenance Plan, to set the Maint date in future, then the Apps will remind you when the time comes. You will never forget. Before a riding trip, make for you a cup of coffee, sit down and review the Maintenance record on the apps - this will make you much much more confidence with the bike. And with all items are "green-checked", your bike is ready for the trip !!! :ride: ============== For both MOD and MAINT features, you can combine to create your own PROJECT. Like a winter project, just put everything in your head into the Apps, come to the shop to buy all the things you already listed there, you can not miss even one of them. ============== 4. STATISTICS EXPORT This feature allows you to export all data of your bike into a JPG or CSV file. You can even hide/show any items which you like to before click "EXPORT". Think about when you want to share your bike info with your friends, just one click. And especially think about selling a bike. How many of you have been struggling remember and list all the things for a sale post? Sure it takes time to recall everything, and chances for missing some items are very high. This Apps will do it for you without a mistake. Just one click and then your sale post will be furnished with all necessary information. 5. OTHERS This Apps also provide the Road tax and Insurance reminder - you will surely no need Cops to tell you about your insurance expired at the middle of your trip :naughty: We are developing more and more features right now. Will have something like adding Engine running hours instead of ODO, fuel tracking, trip recording, etc... And there will be an interactive environment to be provided. Sharing will be so much easier. Give it a try, just a tiny little Apps, but very useful, very practical. Homepage of the Application: http://ride-smarter.com/ Facebook page of the Application: ://www.facebook.com/ridesmarter/ Direct address to access the Apps: http://ride-smarter.com/apps/ Or you can browse to the Apps Homepage, then Click on the below icon: Give it a try and feel free to question me, here on VFRD or any address given on CONTACT page of the Application. Have fun, my Friends!
  6. Hi all. I recently purchased a 4th gen VFR 750 FV, with all good intention to simply wash the crap off it, fix the fairing, and ride it 'till it died. It's got almost 200,000 k's on the clock, and isn't worth putting an enormous amount of time or money into, as far as i'm concerned....or was concerned, should I say. I picked the bike up cheap, with no rego, pretty crappy fairings, and a wish to have it ready to ride before summer gets here. I started off by taking off the fairings, then deciding that the bars are too high....then ditched to pillion stuff, as I probably won't be needing it. Before I knew it, I had a major project on my hands, and no way to turn back. There were bits going in the bin, left right and center. Visions of tuned pipes (2 into 1 for the front cylinders, and 2 into 1 for the rear), clip ons, rear sets, and flash new styling. Wrapped exhausts, single seat, chopped sub-frame, custom instrument panel, and one off glass bodywork. Now all I need to do, is to divide my time between my family, my job, and my Son's half made FZR 250. Simple! I'll be doing pics along the way, so if you're interested, keep an eye out. This may well turn out to be the lightest VFR on the planet.....and quite possibly the ugliest. O.K.......First technical hitch, as far as this blog. I'm unable to add any photos, at this time. Some kind of drama between here and there is stopping me. You'll just have to imagine a picture of a half dead VFR, for now. What i've found, so far? Well....The bike won't run, if you turn the handlebars. Simple fix. I've narrowed the fault down to a faulty wire between the ignition, and it's connector. Now to some stuff that's important, if you want to get rid of a few kilos (or pounds, if you're that way inclined). Some of the things that would surprise you.... The bar ends weigh an incredible 195 grams EACH!!!!!! If you add the cap screws that hold them in, The total weight, for something that's not really required, is almost 420 grams. Things like this are usually forgotten, and when all added up, can add a huge amount of weight, with no benefit. Sure, there has to be something there, but nylon ends, with Aluminium cap screws will weigh virtually nothing. I've always taught my Son an important lesson, when it comes to shedding weight off bikes, and that is that a thousand drops make a bucketful. Small parts that are no required can make up a massive weight saving, without having to really do much, except be a bit ruthless. There are so many fancy rubber guards, and plastic shields on this bike, that i'm amazed. All up, so far, i'd say that i've managed to reduce the weight of the bike by three kilos, and haven't spent a cent. Now, I know that there are going to be people who will disagree that this has any real world impact on performance...and you're all welcome to have your say.....BUT, here's the facts of the matter. We'll say the bike weighs 216 kgs, and produces 102 BHP. It has a power to weight ratio of 0.472 HP per kg. The weights and measures may not be right for a VFR 750 FV, but bear with me....it make s no difference. If I just removed 3 kgs from our bike, it now has a power to weight ratio of 0.478 HP per kg. Yeah....not very impressive. I know. Let's say, though, that I can manage to reduce the weight by 20 kg's (which is a realistic possibility). We now have a power to weight ratio of 0.520 HP per kg. That's not bad, when you consider that there has been zero dollars spent.
  7. Just purchased a Gray 2008 with ABS which was a must-have for me. It's a good looking bike but the color would not have been my first choice. However, ABS models are few and far between so I grabbed it while I could. Very happy with the bike but I want to do something to make it snap a little when you look at it! Any Ideas? I posted this on the Sixth Gen thread but was hoping to get some additional ideas on this thread. Whatever I do, I want it to be tasteful so no "wild" flames, skulls, etc. Thanks in advance.
  8. Here we go. As I promised in my first post: http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/73879-hi-from-brisbane-au/ I am officially starting my build thread now ;) I was planning to do it when I get more time to spend on the VFR, but I realized that It will never happend as I am involved in a few other builds, as well as my main project at the moment which is opening a workshop in Brisbane YAY! So this will be very slow build I'm afraid :(
  9. I'm planning on using a 2008-2011 CBR1000 rear tailsection and subframe in my next project which will entail me grafting it onto a VFR. I've decided I'm going to use a 4th or 5th generation VFR. Does anyone here have experience or a good idea of which of these bike's frames will be the best (easiest?) to do this mod on? 5th Generation 4th Generation
  10. Going to do the F4i fork swap on my 6th gen and recently purchased a matching set of calipers and m/c off a 2001 F4i donor bike with 3800 miles... or so the eBay listing said. Anyway, from the outside the setup looks to be in very good condition, question, would you just run them or rebuild first? In inspecting them with my untrained eye the pistons all come out using small short burst of compressed air and can be pushed back in with somewhat firm pressure, some go in just a little easier that the others. Just kind of need some direction as I've never dealt with any of this before, maybe some testing procedures? Another question, I'd like to paint the m/c, any particular type of paint I should use? For that matter how 'bout if I wanted to paint the calipers, any special type of paint?
  11. Thought about digging up an old thread about cleaning those little pockets, but I'm wondering if anyone has cut the lower portions of the windscreen out. I can certainly cut it cleanly and file/sand it to look relatively nice, but I'm wondering if it's been done beforehand. I'm probably going Puig or ZG anyway, but for some reason I want to try it. However, no reason to spend the time cutting it if it's been done and sucks. Picture below gives a little bit of a cutting guideline:
