Hi to you all. I passed my bike test just over 1 year ago and have been riding a year 2000 CBR600. I started on a VFR streetfighter project 8 weeks ago, some pics attached... I may have a few questions on their way soon as I about to start on the front end... Any tips/advice is welcome! Luke.

Hi All, I'm in the process of fitting R1 forks and rear shock to the 98. That's done but untested. I also fitted raised wide bars and full Delkevic system. At this moment I can decide to go back to full fairings or go naked. ??? It would be great to get some street-fighter guidance re single headlight, speedo tacho ect. My 2006 VFR is set up as a track bike but I may decide to sell it. Undecided. I see KEEF has gone down this road, so probably has already solved most of these questions. Cheers people.

Just finishing up the last few bits on this build, figured it was time to share here. This will be a long multi-segment post, so keep checking in till the finished pics pop up. The (rough) design brief... CBR1000RR tail, F4i RSU fork swap, handlebar and riser conversion, round headlight, front mount radiator, custom exhaust header with low/underbelly muffler and exit, powdercoat lots of parts. Overall, the usual crisp, clean, loaded-with-details build with a P51 Mustang - airplane inspired theme. Starting with a reasonably clean albeit slightly higher mileage '99 model: Coolant drained, rads off, brakes (mostly) bled out, rear axle nut cracked loose. On track for fork swap by weeks end Washer fluid bottle makes a good drain catch for coolant streaming from the drain at the pump Not much, but at least it looks a bit lighter with the side rads gone. More disassembly. Removed hand controls, linked brake system, clutch slave, pair system, other misc stuff. She's pretty grungy, got my work cut out for me to make it clean and shiny again. Always gets worse before it gets better... Found a broken airbox lid Fitted the F4i forks and triples, and a set of brake calipers. The VFR wheel fits almost perfectly. I did have to cut off the F4i steering lock stops to fit the lower, will make new ones later. Then I offered up the CBR tail I'm happy with how the shapes will blend. With the right blend panels and paint, it will look factory.

Hello, So this is a big thank you and shout out to all members here that I have borrowed, copied and ripped off to complete my naked, streetfighting, cafe racer, black VFR800. In particular, paladinread, vfrAustin, sebspeed, apexandy, keef and zefarton44, whose bike was the inspiration for mine. I bought a new VFR800 in 1999, I was once a very early member of this site to, which I still have with 120k on it. My old bike on the left, unwashed after riding it home from Darwin to Sydney, looks more tired than the tired new bike prior to streefighterification. After seeing some of the naked streetfighters here and over at Custom Fighters, I decided I wanted one, and so picked up a tired Euro import 1999 VFR 800, which needed some love and in red to match my original bike and also as a bonus score some spare parts, quite a nice price point too when you wait eighteen years. It has a complete CBR 929 front end, even has the repsol front guard and red rim sticker, CBR 929 rear shock, apexandy's Ducati Monster seat, I tried to make the sub frame as small as I could with the standard battery squeezed in and ECU, made a chain guard, paladinread's SV 650 front radiator, sebspeeds oil cooler, rear motorcross master and brake line in swingarm, wrapped the headers, got a bit carried away with immitation carbon vinyl wrap, looks good at the moment, lowered the gearing, ebay chinese LED indicators, tail light, headlight, which is junk and starting to melt, a koso copy guage, cheap but pain to get working and some of keef's custom red knee cut outs, it's a plasti dip thing. There is still a couple of things I'd like to tidy up, wiring loom, paint, rear disc is shot, suspension sorted, would like the sound of my staintune but like the look of the shorty, it's uncomfortable, impractical, unreliable, too loud, obnoxious and I love it, the opposite to my old bike which is exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Once again many thanks to those that have gone before me, I couldn't of done it without you.

Welcome! This will be a thread where I show off the finished product(s) of my VF500 Resto-mod. I will only be featuring work I have done or modified myself. I will not be including specifics on how I did things here, but I will answer smaller questions. If you too are working on a VF500 you may want to see my other thread where I've been back and forth asking questions to the forum on how to solve problems with my build. My motorcycle is a 1984 VF500F. I picked it up with 56,000km on it. I have been restoring it inside and out. I am replacing parts that I think are outdated, for the purpose of either making it look better or preform better. Besides bolstering the performance I am changing the look of the bike from it's boxy-retro look, and into a bit of a streetfighter or cafe-racer. One thing you will notice about this build is that it is not going to be a perfect show-bike finish. The simple answer to this is the fact that I can not afford the tools or materials, nor do I have the expertise to do it anyways. This bike is ultra-low budget. Wheels I sanded down the old paint and metal. I fitted modern radial tires that give it a lower profile (and in my opinion a cleaner look). Then I painted the red and white using Duplicolor wheel spray paint. Seat Being vertically challenged, I reshaped the foam of the seat while I was recovering it with new vinyl. Handlebars/Mirrors I pulled the cores out of the stock handlebars so that I can fit bar-end mirrors. Used a drill, tap and a slide hammer. Mirrors are in the mail. Carburetors After cleaning the carbs I put bigger jets in to accommodate a straight pipe and K&N air filter. I also did a mod that Dutchy taught me about where you drill an additional fuel line, to prevent a lean mixture on the fourth and third carb. Fourth carb with jets and extra fuel-in^

Frame Modification Question - Best method? Past Experience?
MotoMatic posted a question in Modification Questions
Hey guys, I'm in the process of modifying my '92 to fit a custom subframe and have a question about modifying the frame "wings". I want to reduce their overall presence to flow with the look of the bike, but have read varying advice on cutting aluminum. Given that it is on a bike, a circular or skillsaw is out of the question. I have read that using a sawzall with a carbide tip blade, dipped in wax (to prevent gumming) may work, but I have no experience with this particular application on aluminum. I am trying to achieve the most precise cut as possible, but understand I will have to smooth it out and refine. Has anyone done this before or recommend the best way to go about doing this? I have seen various levels of this done so I know its possible to an extent (see pics below). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Here are the lines I'm looking at cutting... Other examples I've seen-

hello! im new here and actually new to posting on forms completely for that matter! i search and read thru them allot. and have gotten some good info from here so i figured i would give it a shot and see if i can get some extra direction or info! i bought a 1997 vfr 750 from a friend that owns a local bike shop. it was dropped off a U-Haul truck while trying to load it and bent the tail pretty bad so it was a perfect start for what i wanted to do, i already planned on building a custom tail. im a welder fabricator for work and went to technical collage for motorcycle technology and have owned many bikes and still own all types of bike so im not new to any of this but can always use advice from people who have more knowledge on a specific bike. so some info on the bike... when i got it home first thing i did was charge the battery fresh fuel and fired it up ran great! good start, then i striped it of all of its outdated ugly plastics! haha went over the whole bike completely i mean EVERYTHING! found the forks are bent son they came off one of the clipons was cracked so i ordered risers and dirtbike bars and went that rout because that was the plan anyways. did the pair blockoff and got fid of all of that crap. and started on the tail. i started with a ducati monster seat. had to get a little creative on bending the square tubing for the tail ;) but it came out great. i then made the undertail skin and box. im now in the middle of thinning out wiring and figuring all of that out. taht brings me here. right now im planning the dash. i wanna do a minimalistic dash few led lighsts thats it. dont think im going to do any gauges. all i want is a low fuel light signal light high beam light side stand maybe... i cant figure out the low fuel light.. so this is where im stuck. i have SOOOOO many more pictures i will probably add in the morning just wanted to start it up and see if i get any responses. THANKS!!!!
