  1. 21-DEC-08 - Made the front page... how cool is that. I took this photo a couple of years ago, my bike was brand new with less than 200 miles on the clicker when I left on this short journey. The temporary paper license tag that I was issued blew off somewhere between my house and this photo. As I was taking the photo, I noticed it was gone and about shit myself. I was sure that I would get pulled over by some county yokel on a bike that was bought over the weekend so more than likely the paperwork had not hit the system yet. You can tell by the rear wheel that I broke in my baby by doing about 10 miles of gravel on the way to Hiawatha. The lower cowl has never quite been the same since. Oh well, I bought it to ride. The kids' bicycles have done far more damage in the garage since then. I took the same route back home in an attempt to find my paper license tag... no luck. Never got pulled over, but I did have to go pay for a real tag and missed out on my 30 days of free riding. The good thing is that once a certain amount of dust builds up... no more can stick. So the bike didn't look any worse after an additional 10 miles of gravel. Windmill Lane is part of a small museum to the farming history of Kansas. All of the taller windmills are water pumping mills. The shorter windmills are all from the '20s and '30s, they are electrical generating mills that were popular on farms that didn't get onto "the grid" until the '40s, '50s and in some rare cases the '60s. Kansas is still home to thousands of windmills... but now many of them are HUGE generating mills.
  2. Made the front page, Mike. I think you could have slipped behind those trucks in the background and made a lap before they could have caught you.

I found this while digging through some papers. Just a nice photo and some brief specifications for a '94 VFR 750 F. Guess this shows how old I am.

  8. Does the seat cowl mount to the bike solidly enough to keep this all on-board? Especially with the ladder rotated to the rear you will have quite a lever arm trying to pry the seat cowl off, and you will be developing some small amount of lift at speed too. I have found that any "wiggle room" makes for a jittery video. I just can't see mounting it to plastic providing a firm enough base for good quality. I think you will be better off making a "Bridge" for your "ladder" using the grab rail mounting points. I do love the thought of the views that will give you though. Look out for low power lines. Damn, Snafu beat me to the idea.. I had to load some songs onto the Daughter's MP3 player between when I started typing and finshed.
  9. I installed a digital temp contoller when I installed my grips. It gives you so much more control than a HI/LOW switch. I mounted it on the left "wing" of the panel. It works by cycling full power on and off to the grips. Full high leaves the power on constantly. The slowest setting cycles the power on for about 1/10 of a second and off for a full second. It gives a very wide heat range. Another great thing is that it actually cycles power and does not simply dump heat (and power) wherever you hide the resistor. Available, of course, at Aerostitch/RiderWearhouse.
  10. Awesome work... pretty. But what if you brake so hard them things catch fire from the heat.... your bikes going to go up in flames like a helicopter. Just kidding... great work... that's a lot of cranking on the crossfeeds.
  11. Great job. A co-worker of mine has a very similar set-up.... Good idea on the crane you used to get the concrete out. Well done all-in-all. You must not live where it snows? That would soon be a nice lake here in the winter time without some kind of drainage.
  12. You're not going riding on that rear tire are you? <_< He got a worn carcass for free from a local shop to bridge the gap until his PP arrive. Not the way I would do it.... but with youth.....

I normally look just slightly less dorky than this. This photo was taken directly after a 70 mile ride in a steamy rain.
