I am 6' and sit a little short for my height and I have always found my 6th gen to be noisy and provide quite a bit of buffeting regardless of the helmet I was wearing. There just seems to be a lot of turbulence behind the stock screen right about at my shoulders, and frankly, I don't really think it gets much better if I try to get low and tuck in tight. Similar to an earlier poster's comments about running without a wind screen, I did cut down a stock screen to about the top of the faring "ears" and that helped quite a bit, but then the wind blast was right at face level which wasn't ideal either, especially in wet weather. It's always kind of amazing to me how quiet and smooth my helmet is when I stand up for a few miles to give my butt a break on the highway. It seems counter intuitive, but get a well designed helmet up in 75mph clean air and it’s MUCH quieter than sitting on the bike. I have considered aftermarket windscreens, but really don't like the way most of them look. My ultimate answer – earplugs and helmets with good, tight neck rolls.

Folks, The following is an excerpt of an Email I recieved yesterday for the Indianapolis area releae of the movie. Any other area VFR riders want to tag along? I just wanted to check in with you regarding the Friday release of On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter. There have been a few last minute changes to theater locations for Indiana. All changes for Indiana theater locations have been updated on www.onanysundayfilm.com In other news I am putting most of my emphasis on the 7:30pm showing of On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter at Regal Village Park Stadium 17 located at 2222 E 146th Street, Carmel, IN 46032. We are working with Westfield Powersports to do a motorcycle ride in to the theater that will be hosted by film director Dana Brown. We are going to have Dana at Westfield around 6:00-6:15pm and then everyone that wants to ride to the theater (approx 5 miles) will depart around 6:45pm to head to theater for the 7:30pm showing of the movie. Immediately following the movie we’ll have a 20-25 minute Q&A session with Dana Brown.

Always happy to share any learnings. The ability to do so here without fear of critiiscism is a significant part of what makes this forum light years better than almost any other interest group on the net. Seems like I'm always swapping out a marginal set of tires right before a trip south. Maybe next time I'll leave 'em on and pick up a set from gr8vfr en route! I would still be interested in hearing opinions on the low speed handling charastics described above. Are there other tires out there with a profile that falls in so aggressively conscious effort is required keep the line from tightening? It literally feels like having to "counter steer away from the direction of the turn.

So after two sets of Conti Road Attacks, a set of Avon Storms and two sets of Road Attack 2s, I've decided to try something different - Shinko 016 Verge. Why? I hate to admit it, but primarily price - nearly $100 bucks a set less than the Contis and let's face it, I live in Indiana where I waste more tires than I use. Before pulling the trigger I read all of the reviews both here and on other forums. Lots of haters - "old designs", "slow to warm up", etc. and a good number of folks said they had them and were very happy. So how do I decide if they work for me other than to try a set out and see? I loved the Road Attacks for the light handling, particularly when new. They always seemed like the tip over was effortless and holding a line was easy. Felt good on the street and for an occasional track day. The Storms were an experiment to try and get better commuting mileage - meh - 7k before they were cupped and the handling was always heavier than the Contis. The Attack 2s felt lighter than the Storms when new, but seemed to lose that light handling feel after just a few thousand miles. So the Verges are purchased and mounted. The front required no weight - a good start, and the rear, well we don't know yet because the shop has misplaced their adapter cone for the VFR(a separate long story) It rides out without vibration, but I'll take it by later this week and have it checked. Initial impression - the profile on these tires is different... I don't know yet if it's different good or bad but definitely different. At slower speeds they feel like I'm riding on a knife edge. Think about turning and the motorcycle feels like it's falling in that direction. At street speeds in a turn you actually have to apply pressure away from the turn to prevent the line from tightening. Initiate a slow weave (30mph) and you consciously have to bring it back to neutral. Maybe this is normal for some tires but it is outside the bounds of my experience with the VFR or any other motorcycle. Now, on the other hand, add a bit of speed to a corner and the steering pressure seems to become neutral - no steering pressure to hold the line and light pressure to make adjustments. At speed they feel pretty good. As stated in the title, this is an experiment. My daughter and I are headed to TN/NC next week and I'll be able to give these tires a proper 2k mile test with lots of real curves. If anyone is interested I'll try post a couple of updates throughout the trip. Ride safe

Going to have to spray mine tonight. Everything was fine when I rolled out of the garrage this morning, but by the time I was five miles down the road the switch wouldn't transfer. My wife would just say that means 23deg is too cold to ride a motorcycle - certianly not! I haven't invested hundreds of dollars in cold weather gear to stop riding when it gets a little chilly. As suggested, I'll just swap to the winter weight blikner fluid!

Other than the machined billit lookes nice, what advantage does it have over a $15.00 NEP? Looks to be a bit awkard in use.

Rotate the clamp to the bottom. Split a piece of 3/4" heater hose and glue it to the centerstand cross bar with 3M trim adhesive. Align the clamp with the hose covered bar to achieve the centerstand drop desired and ride on!

In addition to the kero, pick up some Gunk concentrate at the auto parts store. Mix it in the Kero according to the directions and it will basically act as a soap allowing you to wash away the crud with water.

DaveM replied to cruzinaz's topic in Sixth Generation VFR's
Yes, one can run into legal issues. If the original poster did make contact with the other bidder and agree to stop bidding so the other bidder would get a better price it "could" start falling into the catagory of collusion. Though this situation is currently far from that, it would have to be an organized scheme between two bidders to keep the bid low. It's best for the original poster to continue bidding until he's reached his limit, it is after all an auction. So you're saying if you were bidding on an item, and you found out a friend had also started bidding on the same item you wouldn't let it go to the friend if he needed it? This forum may have a fair amount of members, but it's still a pretty tight group of people and we tend to look out for our "friends". I say good on ya cruzinaz. But what if the seller was also a board member who needed to raise money to buy a VFRness and a regulator to get his bike back on the road? For lack of cash a VFR sits fallow, Tightwad can't pay his bills - an unimiganiable chain of unintended consequences! -

No offense, but this conversation is not fair to the seller - and no, it's not me. Need to let the demand in the market drive the price. -
Dream ride video: may be VFRD in ohio someday?
DaveM replied to ninjadoc's topic in Ride Reports - VFR Touring/Riding
Put it together. There are a couple of us over here in the Indy area that will come over. I've always heard there were good roads over in that part of the state but have been hesitant to burn a weekend to just explore. -
$25 bucks a wheel? Good deal, do it. I do my own and balance with Dyna beads because the local shop here in Noblesville (not far, but the trip would definitely cost you more than a six pack) won't even touch carry in tires. I may start bringing mine up to your guy in Lafayette.

Brake caliper mounting bolt "Replace with new ones or not"
DaveM replied to Dae's topic in Maintenance Questions
Steel bolts in alu do strech. In fact, for the steel bolts in the alu rods in our drag bikes you don't torque them, you use a micrometer and tighten them to a strech length (and replace the bolts with every use). -
It's been done but requires the mounting brackets for the brake components to be modified. Use the search function. You'll find a comple discussion along with a sketch of t he modified bracket. Most folks fit F4i shocks on 6th gens as opposed to 929. The remote resivor makes it much easier.
