That's a $4500 US or less VFR. No question. Once again Im convinced that I'm in the ballpark with my price. I wasn't going to share this story, but what the hell . When I purchased this bike the seller wanted $5000. And based on his description of it, I was prepared to pay him exactly that. "Mint condition. Ready to ride" he said. I drove 3 hours with 5k cash in my pocket only to find a motorcycle that wasn't exactly how the seller described. I wasn't happy. Original tires, original fluids, leaking fork seals, rusted chain, ten years of grime and corrosion, almost dead battery. I could go on. Although it had its shortcomings, it had potential. It was all there. Every OEM piece still intact. I was still interested, but no way 5k. I made him an offer and tried to explain that it's going to cost me well over $1000 closer to $2000 just to get it in road worthy condition. He balked. I thanked him for his time left my phone number in case anything changed and split I drove for 1 hour exactly and he called me back. You guys know the rest. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that "mint" is a very relative term. Sure, I could have put new tires on it, cleaned it up, and nothing else. That would be a $4000 VFR. That's definitely not what I did.

I appreciate your honesty. $2000 is a real good deal. I'd set mine on fire before I took that. I don't need the money. Unfortunately I don't ride enough to justify having two motorcycles. I'm open to offers. The point of this thread was to get an idea of what it's worth. No biggie.

There's a 2000 on Cycle Trader right now for 6k. 24k miles. Tipped over on both sides, dented tank, old fluids, rust. Are these guys high? If that thing is worth 6, mines worth 8 Anyway, I'm gonna list mine here today at some point. Dont be bashful, tell me what you guys think.
-
Yes, people can ask whether they want for an item. It doesn't mean it's worth it. Again, I'm not looking to shamelessly promote my bike here. I just wanted some feedback before I list it. Thanks guys

I get it, but it was always a reasonable start. I've bought and sold dozens of bikes over the years. Certain bikes are just desirable. 10 year old Busa's are selling for a few grand less than they were new. And try to find one that hasn't been molested. On the other hand, you can pick up a bone stock mint 10 year old VFR for less then half of what they were new. Believe me, I understand. Our bikes weren't that popular. But some of us are enthusiasts, and know exactly what a VFR is..(was). This is my 4th one. Just asking opinions, that's all.

I'm thinking about selling my bike. As with any bike, I always check around to see what they're going for and price accordingly. Can someone explain to me the wild pricing I'm observing with these things? I see nice examples anywhere from $3500-$5500! The only online used pricing guide I can find for our bikes is JD Power. They say a excellent 2000 goes for @ $6900! WTF? I know it's not worth that, but then I think to myself... What new bike are you gonna buy that's even close to our beloved 5th gens for less than $10k? Now, my bike certainly isn't new, but it's as close as your gonna get. Anyway, what do you guys think a damn near showroom condition 2000 with 7000 miles is worth? Thanks a bunch

Anyone have a set laying around? Mine are pitted and no matter what method of polishing I do, one still weeps a little. Tired of taking them apart.
-
After riding it with just the cowl for a few hundred miles, I am in agreement. It doesn't move. Thanks

I've owned three different 5th gens, one 4th gen, and countless other bikes over the years. As far as "regular" maintenance goes, it's no more complex than anything else. Some things are easier, some aren't. Just the way it goes. Like those push pins. PITA at first, but do yourself a favor and have a bunch on hand. New ones work much easier. Also, those well nuts.. just replace them. Hell, my local hardware store carries em. After time, they get all mushroomed from overtightening and the threads get all cockeyed. Now you're digging around with the screw trying to get it started. Change out the three on the side too. You'll be surprised how much faster the fairing goes back on. Don't overtighten and they'll last years. Now... Everything "beyond" regular maintenance is definitely harder. Brake bleeding, valve inspection, and just working on the motor in general. Good thing these things are indestructible. Not sure how many miles I've put on 4 different VFR's. Prob close to 75k and counting. The ONLY major malfunction I've ever had was the voltage regulator taking a dump and taking out the battery, stator, and some lights. And even that could have been avoided if I had been more observant. Two dead batteries, and flickering dash lights, should have tipped me off immediately. I was too busy riding

The front is bolted down in the rear? Unless I missed something, it looks like the rear just has tabs that fit under the crossbar. I gotta look again
-
This is my 4th VFR, but my first Sargent for one. It looks great, but am I missing something? What keeps the front seat in place when not using the rear? It fits perfectly, but seems it can slide back fairly easily. I never installed the cowl. Does that hold it somehow? Thanks..

Definitive 8th gen - 5th gen exhaust fitment
VFRXX replied to VFRXX's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
Yes, the clamp is not part of the canister, and gives you some wiggle room. Fitting that IXIL might be dicey, but who knows. -
So yeah, I finally got around to test fitting the Two Bros exhaust on my bike. Just to recap..I purchased a Two Bros high mount exhaust for a 8th gen VFR. I wanted to see if it would fit my 5th gen. Opinions were all over the place. Some say it would work, some say it wouldn't. Well guess what.. Fits perfectly! No modifications at all. The only thing I can see is the center stand rubber stop is slightly off. But it's totally fine. It still sits almost level. I have to say that I like the old version a little better. The one where the mid pipe bolts to the canister. This one has springs holding them together. No real issue, but the whole thing wiggles ever so slightly. My old one was solid. Anyway, here are a few pics. I suspect that any slip on for an 8th gen should work, but can't say for sure. Made a quick video as well.. https://youtu.be/SXXdGnlWarg

You are right. It is AUD. (I confirmed with the sales guy). So just under $700 at the current exchange rate. That's not bad, but here's the story.. So i was gonna wait till later, but I'll give a quick update. I had a Two Bros carbon fiber can on my 2001. Loved the way it sounded, and looked, I opened it up after 10 years to repack it, and it still looked new. Quality stuff. So i decided the other day to be the guinea pig. I ordered one for a 8th gen to see if it would work. Like most, i can't get a definitive answer on whether it will fit or not. So, F it. It came in last night, so I'll post up later today, with pics. Good, or bad.. at least we will all know.

Not a chance of being over 60 ft\lbs. I'll go with. 98hp, 54ft\lbs. Every dyno is different. So +\- a few

Just got a reply from Staintune. They still make high and low mount exhausts "to order". They want $800 plus $150 shipping from AU. Definitely a lot of steam for it, but they are 100% available.
-
I've heard all the rumors about that. Read multiple posts as well. Doesn't seem like there is a clear answer as to whether it fits or not. Sucks man. Never thought it would be this difficult to pick out an exhaust.

Some of you may have read how I finally found an almost showroom 2000, with no miles on it. My intention was to leave it all stock... The way Honda intended it. After having run it a few times now, I've realized that I just can't have that stock exhaust on there. I don't care about the weight or size, but I just have to let this thing sing. It's one of the very few bikes that sounds really good with an aftermarket can. I've always had quality exhausts on all my bikes. Two Bros, Akrapovic, Yoshimura and the like. Unfortunately, finding any of these for a 5th gen is impossible. The only ones that seem to pop up are ones with questionable quality. (GPR, Delkevik, Black Widow) Money really isn't an object here, just want to find something really nice for this bike. All suggestions welcome. Thanks

Well, this makes number 4, but this one is a keeper!

Ha. I think that's the reflection of my hi-viz yellow shirt. Usally wrench on it a few hours every day after work. -
Haven't been around in a while. Sold my mint 2001 years ago and bought a Diavel. Lately, I've been searching for a perfect 2000. Something to could just cruise on. The Ducati is awesome, but sometimes I just want to take it easy. Getting older I guess. Ive passed on multiple "clean" ones. It's amazing what people think "mint" is. After a year or so of searching, I finally found one. No shit, 2800 original miles. Everything, and I mean everything is there. The only thing that I could find missing was the rubber frame plug for the idle adjustment. Tires, brakes, oil, coolant, brake fluid, all original. Unfortunately, it looked like it was never cleaned. Lots of oxidation on the aluminum parts, and surface rust on steel parts. Chain was almost rusted solid! I've slowly been flushing all the fluids, and cleaning it up. So far, it's coming out great. I probably won't register it this year, so I have nothing but time. Great to be back. This will be my 4th VFR in the past 25 years. This one stays though!

Checked Out The 8Th Gen Today And....
VFRXX replied to MarantzManiac's topic in Eighth Generation VFR's
I'm not so sure about that statement. Its not the non-Vtec, 1000cc, GDC, sub-500 lb bike that we all have been longing for, but I do believe its a step in the right direction. The VFR 1200 was, IMO, a step in the wrong direction. I'm sure its a great bike, but just a let down to VFR hopeful. The sales #'s tell that story well. To me, the new 2014 800 is a like a reboot. Not quite there, but getting closer. -
Not even close IMO. Yours sounds better than the '14
-
That's a fairly bold statement. Thanks for the write up. I am on the fence here. I guess its time to ride one
-
If so, why didnt they give it more power? Something that VFR owners have been wanting for 20+ years?? How hard is it to squeeze another 10-15 hp out of a motor?
-
But Why? Who's Going To Buy One? Nobody.
VFRXX replied to crazybrother's topic in Eighth Generation VFR's
This statement defines why the 2014 VFR will most likely sit on showroom floors. Just like the VFR 1200 does, and just like the 6th gen did. (yes, I sold Honda powersports from 2003 to 2008). Its almost a running joke now, to wait a couple years for the price to come down a few grand
