I was watching the latest Missenden Flyer video yesterday and took notice of the Reader's Ride. It was a white 6th gen VFR belonging to our very own Lorne! Beautiful bike. It was funny though he wasn't familiar with the name Lorne and didn't know if you were "a bloke or a lady." Go to the 7:00 minute mark of the video

Thanks Crockett.

Lift up the rear of the tank and fit the holes in the rubber flap over the tank mounting tabs. That will secure it in place.

Actually this is the 1198 V-twin (or L-twin as some call it) engine, but still super fun for riding here.

Thanks, and colour coordinated too.

While my VFR is sitting waiting for repairs (https://www.vfrdiscussion.com/index.php?/forums/topic/113334-burnt-stator-connector/), I bought a new-to-me 2014 Ducati Multistrada S Touring. It was in the works before the r/r died again on my VFR. I rode home 700 km and the dirt bike ergonomics are perfect for me. Felt fresh after a long day in the saddle while the VFR was causing me some neck and hip pain. Despite being 10 years old, it's in immaculate condition. It's got 38K km and came with a bunch of goodies like a Termignoni slip on exhaust, carbon fibre bits and the comfort seat. I probably wouldn't have done many of these myself but for the price, I think it was worth it. I wanted/lusted after one ever since riding one during a Ducati demo days in 2010. Time and depreciation has made it affordable, and since I'm turning 64 in a couple of months, I figured I had better do it sooner than later. Here's a few pictures of it in its new home next to the VFR. And since my office is in the garage, I can glance to my left and see both of my bikes. Not too bad.

Yeah it's on my list of things to do. I have a stator that I bought when my last r/r failed but didn't need to install. Will do a visual inspection as well doing the continuity tests.
-
Thanks. I will be getting the Super Mosfet kit FH020AA plus the adapter mounting bracket. Jack, the owner, responded promptly to my email inquiries.

Turns out I will need a new r/r too, as the r/r terminal to that burnt connector is also damaged. I'm checking out Ricks Motorsports website for replacement r/r and connector. Shipping and exchange rate is a killer to Canada - $178 for parts, $116 shipping/handling + exchange brings it to $405 CDN. Any cheaper or alternatives from our Canadian members?

Yes, my bad, it is the r/r connector.

It's lasted 29 years so far. In my years of ownership, I've replaced the r/r twice (2002 and 2013) and installed VFRness with the 2nd r/r. I think that's pretty good. But to consider your solution, I would cut off the connector and crimp a terminal to the ends of the wire and then plug each individual wire to the r/r. Is that correct? If so, I'll have to see if there's enough slack in the wiring to do that. I suppose I have to cut off the connector regardless so it's worth trying. Thanks.

As the picture shows, I've got a burnt r/r [edited] connector. Do I have to get a new wiring harness from Honda, assuming it is still available? What are my repair options? I replaced the r/r a few years ago and installed the VFRness too. I bought a stator at that time too that i didn't need to install. A little history. I just replaced the battery as it wasn't holding a charge. It was 7 years old. Voltmeter was showing 13.5 volts while riding. With the new battery I went for a test ride but now I was only seeing 12v then 11.9v then 11.8v. Went home and pulled the r/r [edited connector which you see now.

3rd gen Low Fuel light always on
auggius replied to flyc2c's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
The fuel light on my '95 doesn't come on except at start up, so I know the light works. I just haven't been bothered to fix it, and rely on the fuel gauge. -
oh, it's a 1995 vfr.

the one time use only crush washers for the oil drain bolt and the banjo bolt connecting brake line to caliper. time to do some maintenance. i was going to buy a bulk pack at fortnine with my tire purchase and need to know the size. the service manual doesn't list the size. thanks.
-
What is the washer size for the oil drain bolt and brake hose bolt?
-
i've joined all the pieces together into a single unit using plastifix. it looks still rough because i haven't sanded and painted it yet. i should because it's stopping me from getting my collector's plates.

61, but I know there's older on here! Started riding at 27. Bikes in order are Kawasaki EX500, CBR600 and VFR750 4th gen. I owned a Suzuki DR350SE a couple of times (the same one) but currently without. We moved out of the city 13 years ago to the Kootenays. I'm just a fair weather rider now but it's more smiles per mile.

But the bags are interchangable. -

I had one on my '95. Great bag but it got worn out over years of use. I take it that it doesn't fit your '99 vfr. Did you get a bag with it too? I'd be interested if you do. -
Exhaust gaskets or valve adjustment?
auggius replied to redheadstepkid's topic in Sixth Generation VFR's
FWIW my 4th gen developed a loud exhaust note coming from the rear cylinder bank a few years ago. I let it go for a while (longer than I should) and when I finally got to the root of the problem, I found, or rather didn't find, an exhaust gasket in the right rear exhaust port. Of course I had to replace all the exhaust gaskets because I had to take the whole exhaust off to get to that point. Oh, and I had to replace an exhaust stud on the front left header too. Anyway, if it sounds like a loud exhaust, it's probably a gasket and not a valve adjustment fix. -
When I do it myself, I know who to blame. There's no guarantee I've done it right.

Any VFR 8th gen with different color wheels out there

I had a similar problem. If replacing bulbs or fuses don't help, it could be a broken wire within the wiring harness in the tail section. I had to open it up, find the broken wire and solder in a new piece. Good luck.
