  1. I will most likely pull the trigger on an Air Tech unit as it's really the only option available right now. It looks like it's not exacly a plug in replacement, but looks doable. Trying to match the original paint color might be a beeach. I bought this bike new in 1995, still love it. All other plastic is in perfect shape.
  2. The tail section on my 4th gen, broken tab repair after tab repair, is one crack from disaster. I'm curious if anyone has experience wth Air Tech replacement fairings. The replacement tail section is one piece instead of the multi piece OEM approach
  3. Output voltage is 13.9 to 14.1 at 4-5k rpm. I will be checking all connections. Original R/R failed at about 25k miles, and was replaced with a Rick's unit. Connections to the R/R look good. Battery is a fresh Yuasa. Stator is the original. Thanks for all the info.
  4. Trying to find the output in watts for a 4th. gen. alternator. Anybody? Seems my heated grips drop voltage to the battery to 12.4 volts on high heat, 13.0 on low. No problem in the past but that low voltage makes me question the health of my stator.
  5. Can you share details on how you fused the tail section pieces?
  6. I too have had a pair of Symtec grip heaters on my VFR since 2005. Totally reliable.
  7. In the 24 years I've had my '95, I've never seen the temp gauge much past 25%. I even replaced the thermostat early on thinking it might be stuck open. It wasn't.
  8. Should have mentioned that I use the speakers supplied with the SmartPak iunit.
  9. Can't comment on the Packtalk Slim, but I can tell you that phone conversations on my SmartPak (Cardo product) unit are quite clear at highway speeds. My sons both have these units and we love em.
  10. Inside info really makes a difference. Thanks for the reply.
  11. Will be in Austin on business the week of the GP. We will definitely be taking in Sundays races and maybe even some of Saturday's activities. Never been to CotA, but have attended the race at Indy and I can say that if you haven't seen it in person, you owe it to yourself to try to attend. The sound alone is worth the price of admission. Anyway, any tips from locals or those familiar with the circuit would be appreciated. Best seating, or general admission and roam around? Traffic issues on Sunday? General Austin highlights like restaurants, cultural attractions [ traveling with my wife], Wish I could be riding down from Pennsylvania, but maybe next time. Look forward to any info.
  12. Twin FIAMM Freeway Blasters mounted near overflow reservoir. Small size makes them easy to install, and you will need a relay. They will get your attention.
  13. At last, the true "7th Gen " is here. That 1200 cc thing is now just another Honda.
  14. I got a set of Conti Motions for $155 shipped from Motosport.com late last year. Love 'em. Looks like the price jumped to $180 shipped but still a bargain. They are very nice and feel every bit as good as the as the Conti Road Attacks they replaced.
  15. Did emmisions also test for CO? Rich mixtures usually result in elevated CO levels, not higher HC levels. High HC readings are usually the result of totally unburned fuel, high CO from incompletely burned fuel. Unbured fuel could be the result of an electrical issue (weak spark, intermittant spark). You may want to check out your plugs, coils and other related electrical systems.
