Take a look at the Kelty Grand Mesa tent. It is small, lightweight, easy to set up and packs very easy. My second choice would be Eureka APEX tent. As far as sleeping bags go I would recommend the Teton Sports Trailhead. It compacts down to 8 inches and is plenty warm for what you need. Rollin

It really depends on how many escorts / massage therapists you are trying to fit in the tent with you. What is your price range and what is the lowest temps you plan on encountering? Rollin

So these are not what you are looking for? 42650-MT4-315ZA (1993 - Ross White) 42650-MT4-305ZC (1991 - 1992 Gold) 42650-MT4-305ZA (1990 - Ross White) -
I too have a Shark intercom system and just like V-FORE I spliced into the wires and added a headphone jack so I could use my own earbud headphones. Overall I have been very pleased with it for the price. Rollin

Even with the "discount" you allegedly got on the paint $2100 is way too much for a single color paint job. What was the painters justification for such a high cost when it really shouldn't have been more than $1000 total IMO. Rollin -
You fooled us Dutchy. We thought you added an extended chrome swingarm and neon lights. Rollin

I'm fairly certain that this person you are talking about documented his 3rd Gen rebuild in another thread and clearly stated in his thread that he was very concerned that his bike was not going to be finished in time to make the trip and he might have to cancel. I understand you are going out of your way to help others by providing your nearly free services and that is very noble of you but if you get stuck with tires due to no shows / cancellations that is clearly on you. Asking for a deposit or pre-payment is very reasonable and any logically minded person should understand this and have no problem doing it especially if they are odd sized tires. I have a tire changer too and have done dozens of free tire changes for both established friends and new acquaintances. I always have them pay for the tires ahead of tire or have them shipped directly to me and not once did anyone disagree or think this was unreasonable. I understand this slightly takes away from the "spirit of friendship" but if you assume the risks of not doing it this way then you can't come back after the fact and gripe about it especially if this has happened to you multiple times in the past as you've indicated above. Worst case scenario for the other party is that they have to pay a few extra bucks to have you ship their pre-paid tires back to them after cancelling. Rollin

I've heard that the one piece is a bigger pain in the ass to take off and put back on. I know two people that bought them and they both cut them right down the middle and turned them into two pieces. Rollin -

Do you mind us asking how much they cost? Rollin -
He's going with custom paint so he needs non-OEM decals in specific colors to match the new paint.

Wth....honda Owners Link Website?
RollinAgain replied to RollinAgain's topic in Maintenance Questions
Yes the Owner's Link website registration is free. I understand what you are saying about the costs involved to keep it running for another year but we are talking about one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world!! I can't imagine it costing more than a few thousand dollars to maintain the site for another year and I bet those savings they achieved by choosing not to maintain the site have easily been wiped away by owners who decide not to purchase another Honda in the future because they are pissed off due to the inconvenience Honda has caused them. I'm really not so upset about the site being down as much as not receiving proper notification about the site being taken down. It is also irriating that Honda keeps changing the ETA on re-launch date. I'd rather them not give an ETA at all rather than giving an ETA and then changing it 3 or 4 times. -
Would You Buy This High Mileage 5Th Gen?
RollinAgain replied to specialk828's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
Have you entertained the thought of buying a bike here in the U.S. and importing it into Canada? One of our forum regulars (Olive) has bought several motorcycles in the States and ridden them back to Canada after flying one-way to pick them up. I'm sure she could offer some insight if you send her a PM. Rollin -
Wth....honda Owners Link Website?
RollinAgain replied to RollinAgain's topic in Maintenance Questions
Honda clearly states on the landing page that all the data from the original owners link site has been preserved so I don't really understand what you mean when you say the database is "gone" and we would have to start from scratch. VFRD isn't a revenue generating website either but Miguel still keeps database backups for this site and keeps it running 99% of the time so I doubt that Honda did not have backups of the DB. I understand that the Owners Link website isn't a direct revenue generator but it still contributes to overall owner satisfaction which has an indirect affect on future revenues spent on Honda products. Maybe I missed the notification or it was flagged as spam but I don't even remember getting an email saying the site would be taken down for re-design. One day it was working and then the next day it wasn't. Had I known this was going to happen I would have printed the service records I needed and filed them away. Bad on me for not keeping hard copy of these records but I assumed this wasn't going to be such an issue considering that everything is kept online nowadays and this is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world. It just doesn't make much sense to me. -
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Honda and their damn Owners Link website? They took the site down last summer for "redesign" and originally said it would be back up in the Fall of 2013. Well Fall came and went and they updated the site to say it will be available again in "Early 2014." Now here it is almost summer of 2014 and the site is still not ready. WTF is wrong with you Honda?? I work full time in the IT industry and know exactly what it takes to develop a website from scratch and it definately shouldn't take this long unless you have only one single developer working on the entire project. I'm also not sure why they didn't keep the old site up and running while working on the new site at the same time. Does anyone have any insight into what the holdup is? I know lots of people who kept their service records on this site and everyone is pretty frustrated with how this has been handled. Rant over.

Would You Buy This High Mileage 5Th Gen?
RollinAgain replied to specialk828's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
In general from what I have seen bikes in Canada are usually about 30-35% more expensive than in the U.S. That would make the bike worth about $1800 (U.S) which seems about right to me assuming it has no cosmetic issues . 90k miles is pretty high for a VFR but if the bike was properly maintained and stored correctly over the winters she should still some life left in her but I'm not sure I would use such a high mileage bike for long distance touring. Is this the original owner and does he/she have all the maintanance history on the bike? Rollin -
Amazing what you did with that mangled up bike. Great work!!

Basic Group Ride Rules- Texasmac
RollinAgain replied to Baileyrock's topic in VFRD Spring Memorial Ride (TMAC)
You should always do a quick pre-ride check on your bike too. Check tire pressure and general condition of tread. Also check chain slack and make sure your headlights, turn signals, and brake signals work. If you haven't ridden in a group before you should also learn the basic signals used by others in the group to communicate while moving. Rollin- 27 replies

Are you talking about the clear signals that are available from Thurn Motosports in Germany? If so they are pricey but look good IMO. I went with the smoked lenses from Thurn and love the way they look Night shades is more of a dark purple color and to tint them correctly you will need at least 4 or 5 coats with lots of fine sanding in between. I did my tail light as seen below and even though it looks dark the brake light is still very visible when lit. Rollin -
The VTEC transition on the 06 and newer is supposedly better than the older 6th Gens but I still found it very annoying and very noticeable on the 2007 that I previously owned. The mods you mention above should help assuming that you are willing to spend the extra money to have the fuel system remapped. I still to this day wonder why Honda ruined a perfectly good engine by adding the VTEC with such little overall benefit. Rollin

I don't think the CBR mirrors are a direct swap. Check out EMGO mirrors made for the 2000-2001 VFR. They don't have the ugly rubber condom sleeve and they bolt right on with no modification needed and are reasonably priced compared with OEM. ($28 each on Amazon) Part Numbers: 20-37341 (right side) 20-37342 (left side) Here is a pic on my 3rd Gen.

RollinAgain replied to MorganR715's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
$500 is actually pretty reasonable for an entire bike especially if it is being done by somone who does good work. OEM decals may be difficult to find but you can check out Xtreme Decals for decent quality aftermarket decals but just to warn you it may take some time to get them. Rollin
