Aparator Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Hi all. I picked up an 84 vf500 the other day. It needs a bit of work, mostly cosmetic. Most of the fairings are brittle and need work. Does anyone know if there is an alternate rear fairing to replace the original, different styles perhaps? Quote
squirrelman Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 check compression in all cylinders b4 spending more time or money. good luck. VF500 mechanical problems have bit more guys than a mosquito in a nudist colony. 😱 Quote
Aparator Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Will do, thanks! It was a good deal, but I know there is a lot of work to do on it. Any other suggestions? Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 12, 2019 Member Contributer Posted August 12, 2019 And lift the valve covers to visually inspect cans and rockers while you are at it. My '86's engine is very healthy with 75,000 on the clock. Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 12, 2019 Member Contributer Posted August 12, 2019 With that out of the way, take her for a ride and judge the suspension front (drain and put in fresh fluid) and rear. Rear is probably well, well past its prime. But if you can live with its performance/compliance, why spend $100's.... Check altenator resistance and Vac output (easy) over the yellow wires and regulators Vdc charging to battery. I can check if a VF400 tail will fit the VF500, but they are sparse as well.... We need plenty pictutes! Quote
