Ohlias
Hi guys & gals! Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes: I wanted to inspect the air filter on my 2014 VFR800 while running some wires under the gas tank for a RAM mount phone charger and ran across this in the air box: AS you can see from the pics, there was a small amount of what looks like clean engine oil in: one drop on the filter and some spatter near the rear of the box around the rear throttle bodies (feel free to correct my mechanical knowledge if I mis-name anything). I wiped it down with a paper towel and there wasn't much. I've had the bike since 2016, ridden just about 10,000 KMs (~6,500 miles) I'm on synthetic oil since day one rotating from Motul and Royal Purple MaxCycle. This stuff didn't look like Royal Purple... I will probably change the filter next riding season and monitor again. Any ideas what this may be and if I should be concerned?
rckrzy1
too much oil in crankcase ?
Member Contributer fink Posted September 8, 2017 Member Contributer Share Posted September 8, 2017 There is a breather from the engine to the air box. As the engine spins it creates a fine mist of oil. Some of this finds its way up the breather into the air box. Nothing to to be worried about. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 8, 2017 Member Contributer Share Posted September 8, 2017 Normal IvanP was worried too, no reason too unless we are talking spoons full of oil
