Service manual says 412 cc's of 7 weight oil. Is this per leg or total? Should I use the 177 mm measurement and is this with the spring installed or not?? Is there a better setup? Thanks.

both legs..

drain the forks. let them drip while have a nice cup of tea or beer or whatever..

leave the springs , have the fully fork extended.

slowly fill the fork. give the oil time to seep down ... :cool:

the below info is for the 2nd gen... :comp13:

12.1 oz in the right leg

12.5 in the left..

that simple :beer::fing02:

177mm is the standard, but you can reduce the airpocket if you like.

The airpocket is measured without the spring.

Tie a bit of string to the top of the damper rod, makes it easier to pull it up.

Fill in a bit less that the required oil and pump the rod and stanchion say 10 times to remove any trapped air.

Add a bit, pump again etc

I would not worry if you are a few mm out or not.

Never heard that you should put a little less/more in either leg.....

gll429 When you say both is that 412 per leg or 206 per leg?. Just need to know how much fork oil to buy. Thanks. They will have plenty of time drain while I replace the steering stem bearings.

On a side note some one told me just to use ATF and not waste money on fork oil. Does not sound good to me but he says he has no problems with it.

Put a little bit to much oil in the leg. Use a big seringe with a tube attached to it. Mark 177 mm on the tube and suck up the exessive oil. Difficult to find a big seringe ? Visit your local vet. He has big seringe's. Tell him why you need one. (so he does not think, you are going to use massive amounts of forbidden substances to enlighten your brain.) :goofy:

Or have a wife working in hospital. (My wife supplies me the big seringe's)
