Did a search and came upon this thread.

So I'm having the same issue with my '99, 80K miles. It's much more noticeable when the oil is old, I really power in 2nd gear from 1st or I don't forcefully put it in to 2nd, it just pops back in to neutral. Is there any other possible issue? Clutch is original and I've done the Factory Pro shift star kit.

I haven't really dealt with a transmission before so it would be a first to get in to and repair and not looking forward to the downtime.

My bet would be the same as mentioned in the previous thread: rounded engagement dogs on second gear would be my first choice. Not an easy or cheap repair job.

At 80k miles, you may want to look on fleabay for a complete engine out of a 2001 if possible and just swap it out.

I'll have to look in to that but I do have the California specific model. I might only be able to swap in a '98-'99 motor to match the ECU? (Without other major work..)
