Member Contributer ki-speed Posted October 6, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted October 6, 2008 Alright. I'm trying to decide if I should replace my stator as preventative maint. It's an 2003 I've owned since new. I have 55,500 miles. Had R/R replaced at 30,000 miles under warranty. Has had all recalls done. I mainly ride longer trips (1 to 3 weeks). I do go for day rides around here, but I do NOT commute or just go out for an hour or 2. Right now the voltage meter on my Escort Passport x50 shows 13.8 to 14.1 volts when traveling down the road at highway speeds (for reference that's approx. the same voltage that my 2007 Mazda3 registers on the same radar detector). Bike has been at this reading for the last 10,000 miles (thats when I started using the radar detector voltage readout). So I feel everything is ok right now. But I don't want to get stranded out in the middle of BFE. Thought this winter I would change the stator out to be on the safe side. Your thoughts appreciated. ki-speed (Mark)

I don't see the point in fixing something that's not broken...........you're worrying too much. Just ride and enjoy your bike! Tightwad
Don't change something that isn't broken....Stator could/should last as long as the rest of the bike.
