NHVFRGUY Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Finally got this project under the pressure washer, now I can better see what's going on. Plenty of frame polishing, parts refinishing and painting/powder coating, fork seals, fuse block cover, new rear tail light (help a brother our here if you got one), glass seals on the instruments seem to have a problem as water just got in there when I washed it. Wheels have to be cleaned up as It sat in the woods for a while, rear rim has a small spot of rust, brakes are gonna need a full rebuild both front and rear. Now the engine, turns freely but certain it's gonna be milky mess as penetrating oil seeped right past the plugs, guess we will know more tomorrow as I get into it. The carbs are a mess a run thru the ultrasonic will tell us the direction on that. transmission however looks perfect. Tires are almost brand new. Rear suspension cleaned up bright red on the spring...happy dance 🙂 still looking for a set of front lower side fairings that won't drain my bank account. 2 Quote
lastfleetadmiral Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Good. Luck the condition looks similar to what I started with. Cost can quickly climb but it's fun seeing something get rescued. Do look closely at the suspension as it's bound to be nasty and worth spending time money and effort on. Quote

Any bike that looks like that AFTER being washed certainly did not get extracted, new tires installed and then pushed back over behind the shed. Looks familiar. I bought a similar condition project a couple years back that I have been slowly collecting and restoring parts for. It sat in a driveway next to a cement wall outside with no cover for 7 years. The gauges and brakes looked almost identical, with the sight windows broken and full of water. I took the front and rear brake systems off, and the clutch master, and threw them in the garbage. Didn't even bother trying to harvest parts, they were TOAST. And I've restored some real boat anchors. That is a bunch of work right there. Look forward to following along. Quote
lastfleetadmiral Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Hi. I notice you have got standard forks and front wheel. If you could measure the distance between the bottom of the bottom yoke and the centre of the wheel spindle it would be very helpful to me in setting up my modified RC24. Thanks in advance Quote
NHVFRGUY Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 So I knew that the tank was bad, really really really really bad, after a two week soak in the vinegar bath here is the clean swiss cheese. Going to give it the old replacement cuts of steel and fiber glassing try as that's about the only way to save it. I have the 92 tank in house and will post separately on that. I sprayed a rust inhibiter on the tank inside and out until I sand it down. 2 Quote
lastfleetadmiral Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 Wow there is more missing metal than sound metal. I recon that's past saving but then again I'm no metal basher and have seen what some people are capable off who knows. Quote
NHVFRGUY Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 I agree there, since I have a ton of fiberglass and bondo hanging around and I have the 92 tank to modify for it I figured giving it a try was worth it. Quote
NHVFRGUY Posted May 19, 2024 Author Posted May 19, 2024 the front suspension is in for a total rebuild. the rear, im not sure yet. we will see when I get to tearing that apart, other than the revisor leaking out onto the frame it looks great. Found the "Looking like new tires" are badly dry cracked and will be tossed, wheels will be powdercoated at that time. Quote
