Givi Quick Release Rack v.s. SW-Motech Quick Release

My Givi V35 side cases are form fitting but these are not "quick release" brackets. Mine stay on year round. I do have a fender eliminator kit installed so getting around the license plate issue was pretty simple for me. LP Bracket Givi V35 brackets-side.JPG -
Okay...so I know this isn't a full review....yet. Bear with me a week and I will give a full breakdown of the cushion after a nice 5 day Colorado trip. My wife and I met her mother and grandmother today for brunch and we saw her grandmother using this seat cushion. Turns out Costco is selling them right now for $15. Memory foam with gel inserts pinged my brain for a seat cover I was interested in buying for the VFR for longer trips. The problem was they started at $80 and went up in price from there. By the time I had finished adding the features I wanted it was about $110 for a seat cushion. I decided to wait. Not knocking the seat cover by any means but I only do long day trips only a couple of times a year. For commuting or weekend short rides the Sargent seat I have is more than enough comfort. Box But for $15 I am definitely willing to give this a try. I have been sitting on it for about a half hour now and it is still keeping my arse cool. It feels firm and supportive but not hard. Of course this means nothing until I have sat on it all day riding so expect more when I get back. Two immediate negatives come to mind. 1. It is not weather proofed so I expect to have a soggy arse if I got caught in the rain. 2. It is not designed for motorcycle seats so I will have to be a little creative with a way to lock it in place that won't interfere with its function or damage my bike. I don't see this as being too problematic though as I have all ready set it on the VFR for a test fit. It fits pretty good between the tank and the back lip of my seat. On VFR It does add about 3/4" of seat height so us vertically challenged riders will need to keep that in mind. I like the fact that it over hangs the thigh area a bit as this will help keep down on the pinching effect that leads to numb arse (at least in my case). I will admit though that it is all ready worth what I paid for it as I have a bad lower back and I can place this in any seat (work, car, truck, motorcycle) to help reduce discomfort on a daily basis. So tune in next week as I test how this measures up to life on the road. And I will include feedback from the wife as she will be using one on her GZ250 as well.

Personally I am not a fan of plugging a tire on a motorcycle for peace of mind. Here in Albuquerque none of the motorcycle dealerships will plug a tire due to liability reasons. That being said I know there are plenty of riders here who have had success just plugging and carrying on without mishap (YMMV). The real question you need to ask is do you want to spend the money on a new tire now versus how comfortable you feel riding around on a plugged tire? Since this is subject greatly to opinion the answer will differ with the rider. Since you are the rider in this case it should be your call.

I have to hand my badge to the gate guard every time I enter so what I simply do is tuck it in the front right corner inside my tank bag. I have a clear visor in there for "just in case" so it holds the badge up against the side wall quite nicely. On approach to the gate I simply unzip that side of the tank bag. I pull up to a stop next to the guard, reach in and hand the guard the badge. When done I slide it back in and ride off. I zip up the bag once clear of the gate while driving down the road. Total time is about 10 seconds. No modifications required. Badge is always safe and out of sight. As opposed to the cruiser riders who pull up and spend near a minute fishing it out of their shirt pocket pissing everyone off stuck behind them.

I suck at waiting and to see this finished in a couple of months....ugh. Totally worth the wait though. Great job thus far. Looking forward to the finished project and break in ride report.

As hard as it may be to believe... will there ever be a time when you all finally admit that this is a hansome, handsome bike? It looks better than riding a cow I guess. Now post up a pic of your bike next to another VFR and let's compare. -
For you ABS riders out there the Fuzeblock fits quite nicely behind the front right turn signal under the fairings there. @Chuck2: The brake light has 3 wires. One negative (used for both filaments in the bulb) and one postive for the running light portion (which turns on when you turn the bike on) and the 2nd positive is to activate the 2nd filament in the bulb for the brake lights. Tapping into the running light portion means his relay turns on only when the bike is on. You don't want to tap into the "brake" light wire or you relay will only turn on when you hit the brakes. And I simply ran my negative wire to chassis for the ground. You don't have to wire the Fuzeblock negative to the battery negative in order for it to work.

flat black (charcoal) makes everything better!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely swap the rims before selling. And as long as the color fits the bike you are good to go with the Karma police.

Your "new" VFR looks great. Sure you could go black and leave the rims red but it looks fine the way it is. I say put some miles on it first. That way if you drop it you can use that as your excuse for a new paint job. In the mean time enjoy it.

Why not just cut the speaker wires and solder in a 3.5 mm jack for your own?? That is what I would do if I bought one. After spending $300 on a set of equipment I find myself very reluctant to start cutting it up when they could easily add the feature to the unit (they have an audio input for mp3 players after all).

Add another to the Scala Rider G4 set here. Full duplex and you can pair it up to several blue tooth devices easily. For pillion riding I would expect perfect reception considering my wife and I have only once split far enough apart to exceed the range on our set. I do wish they offered an optional jack for your own speakers but that is just a knit pick. Battery range has outlasted our longest ride (8.5 hours) and the price is pretty reasonable. Of course the Sena SMH10 looks like a comparable unit with all the same features for about the same price so I can't see you going wrong either way. I would just go for the best deal you can get your hands on at the time.

I was hit by a minivan driver backing out of her 75 foot driveway. The tree line blocked me from seeing her until it was too late. She never stopped at the end of her driveway to check for traffic and left me laying in a ditch as she ran back into her house while freaking out. I suffered a few stitches to an elbow and the racking of a life time. They totaled the bike and I am in the process of rebuilding it now 6 years later (just got it back). She had the nerve to ask who was going to fix her back window since she had liability only as I was being loaded up into the ambulance.

Yea, I tried that too. It lasted a good 30 to 45 seconds............... ...........I think he can do the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. You have a T-16? Too slow...You need a highly modified YT-1300 to pull that off. -
You can but you will need to convert the google maps to the gpx file format. Google search it and you will find plenty of links on how to do this. It's pretty easy.

Another way to improve turn in would be lighter rims but the cost incurred would be hefty. And coming from an R6 to a VFR I never found the turn in to be that much more work in the twisties. Just a little more leaning on my part.

I did almost the exact same thing. I've been meaning to take some pics but got busy doing other things and forgot. I got mine from an online site that sells police lights. Mine is 3 LED's and looks almost identical to yours ECHO. I wired it to the brake wires so it is only active when I hit the brakes and it strobes 2 flashes a second in red. I did the same for the wife's bike as well. Very effective in day light and clear skies and the best part is it looks like brake lights. I've had no problems with the local LEO's around Albuquerque either. YMMV according to location and local regulations but I can assure you that even with the setup I still make no assumptions that people are paying attention. As for you poor bastages that live in the great Socialist Country of California I can sympathize as the last time I was there they got pissy because I had fog lights on my car and they said it confused older drivers. They didn't like my response being then these drivers shouldn't be driving.
