  1. I'd love to see a short video, Tom, of what your setup is there.
  2. You know what? I just went and checked my 07 6th gen, thinking that the front OEM signals were dim as running lights, then cycled from bright to dim, bright to dim, as the signal blinked. But I'm wrong, I think. The signals instead start out dim, then cycle on to off (briefly), then repeat. Now I think they operate more like the left side of this video, not the right like I thought. Tom, yours work like the signal on the left as well here? http://www.r6-forum....ad.php?t=148648
  3. Hmmm...maybe a relay helps? In this instance the aux light would be the mirrors, I'm guessing.
  4. Just found this. Could this be the solution, Tom? It looks like there's another option. Sounds like yours is a mix of both: not on/off, but not dim/bright either. "This mod comes in two flavors: 1. Relay Option – This keeps your running light at full brightness and the light blinks on/off when the turn indicator is activated. 2. Diode/Resistor Option – This keeps the signal dimly lit, flashing at full brightness when the turn indicator is activated." Link: http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148648 Sounds like I'm missing resistors? Not sure...many of the foto links don't work for me.
  5. One more question for you Tom, and I promise to leave you alone: With the setup you describe, will the mirrors act like the OEM signals/running lights loop: a dimmer running light, then a brighter light when it goes to the signal? Or will the mirrors act like running lights (full brightness) and then go to fully on and fully off for the signal blink cycle? I've seen it both ways, and I'd prefer they blink/operate exactly like the OEM signals/running lights: first dim as a running light, then brighter when operating like a signal.
  6. Ok. I'm guessing what you used, To, is something like this: http://comingsoon.radioshack.com/radioshack-gp15m-silicon-rectifier-diodes-3-pack/2761114.html I noticed there's a silver band on one end. And THAT end is attached to....the VFR OEM signal wire side, or does it matter? Feel like sketching out a simple drawing for non-electrical guys to follow?
  7. 4 diodes per signal, Tom? Since each VFR signal has a turn signal wire and a running light wire, each side needs two? I'm going shopping around to see if I can find a Radio Shack still in bid-ness. I know there are a few still around here I heard...
  8. This? C'mon....it can't be done without buying some sort of magic box (or two?) Anyone? http://www.amazon.com/Curt-Manufacturing-58240-Light-Converter/dp/B001EP0GI6
  9. Nahhh...I'd prefer to have the OEM signals and the mirrors be both running lights and turn signals. I'm all about the conspicuity. What is this trailer conversion think of which you speak? Link?
  10. I will be able to. Darth Bling in his original design had a phillips head screw used to tighten the GSXR mirror, that he drilled thru the center of in order to keep the wire un-seeable inside the GSXR stalk. So right now, unless I can think of something different and better than drilling a hole thru dozens of screws, I'm using the same plan/idea. So you took the GSXR 2 wires, and....twisted/soldered in the 3 from the VFR? No subdividing them at all? All 5 together?
  11. We may just be in bid-ness. I'm picking up machined, in-hand prototypes this weekend for a dry fit. In fact, I bought some non-used GSXR mirrors yesterday locally from a LM (not new, but sure look like it) since we seemed to be moving forward so quickly. The sizing on the part is a bit of a WAG, I'm told, so the dry fit will be helpful. Oh...let me ask you this: those of you that have done some sort of other mod (or maybe you have the original mounts from Darth Bling), talk to me about wiring them up for both signals and running lights. Can you provide details on how you got them to work? The GSXR mirrors have 2 wires, but I haven't checked into my 6th gen yet. Ideas on how to wire them up for both running & signal lights? Any additional components needed? BTW, the lenses on the mirrors are the original clear/amber, which I thought I'd change to the tinted lenses (which you can get for the GXSR mirrors), but after looking at them and realizing I have clear/amber on my RWB, I think they'll match up nicely. More this weekend (if I can pick these up) with fotos and next steps...
  12. That would be great. Love to see some close ups of how it goes together/looks when complete, etc.
  13. Looks like the shrink wrap goes right up to/under the mirror hear and covers the entire stalk in one piece. I did not know that at first. Nicely done. I was thinking it only covered the thin part of the stalk before it flares out.
  14. Not bad. It was hard to see where the shrink wrap ends, so you must have done a good job with that. I've always heard that anything Emgo makes is cheaper, but you know it. True? Buzziness/bluriness in the mirrors at all? I think you may have solved that by using the OEM stalks though. The head ever loosen up? A viable alternative though, if you can get past the breaking of the glass of the original mirrors. Can't go back after that. And yours (and esp. your 6th gen friends who did this) have both running lights AND signal lights now in those?
  15. Is the 6th gen stalk solid too? Anyone know?
  16. So you did the "break the VFR glass, remove mirror head, mount GSXR mirror head to OEM VFR stalk" mod? And that one also leaves the wiring outside the stalk, huh? I thought you could drill into the cowl at the mirror base and hide it that way, no? Boy, that is some serious large diameter heat shrink. Where did you find that? Got fotos of the finished piece?
  17. Hard to see in that sideways foto, but have you done anything about having the wire outside the stalk?
  18. I looked for a link, deltaboxii, but didn't see one with that title. If you have it, can I see?
  19. I think I remember you starting the mod earlier in this thread. If you finished them, how about a flurry of good fotos of them, and the ZX6R mount, etc, and what you thiink of it after living with them for a bit. Might help to have another option in case mine goes south. Again.
  20. We're moving forward with this, looks like. Apparently the files I got have a few errors in them, but they do have some good fotos. So, my contact is going to try and reverse engineer the part using the fotos. BUT..... if you have these mounts, we STILL HAVE A GREAT NEED for someone with them to get in touch with me/us for actual dimensions of the finished piece. There are numerous things we need to confirm before making these. So again I'll ask: If you have a set, please get in touch. I'll also be opening up another post in case someone on the forum has them and is not reading/following this one. Never know. Maybe everyone here wants them, and no one has them!
  21. Don't give up yet, folks. I met a guy today who does CAD drawing and machining. He wants to see the files, and has said he can get me a set made to try out, then perhaps make small batches for anyone who is interested. I'll take my 800 over there to check the fit, etc when he gets close. I mentioned to him the whole "we have to drill the screw in order to pass the wire thru, and it's kinda an unelegant solution in my mind" and he wants to try and re-think that part as well. More info when I know it....but this sounds like good news to me! I'll add/openly plead (again) that if anyone has a set of these they can loan me to see first-hand how they are made (you Canadians riding yet?), I'd gladly give you some $ as a good-will "insurance" gesture if it would make you feel better about getting them back ASAP.
  22. If you want something that allows for the passenger, you're looking at the OEM honda rear rack.
  23. I wasn't asked, but that's never stopped me before: I got one of these for my 6th Gen one or two years ago now. I use it with the OEM topbox pad and the OEM topbox and it may just be the best piece of non-OEM gear I've bought. I've never had a topbox on anything before, and those damn Euros are onto something: they are super-convenient. I ride with the topcase now more than I do without it, and having it tucked a bit closer in with Ken's rack, rather than hanging way off like the OEM rack, lets the bike look better and ride better weight-wise. Get one. You won't regret it.
