  1. If you're looking for something off the shelf and not a mod, your choices are slim. Like between these ones you found and.....none. I've never seen any like these before where the signal is suspended on the stalk and not part of the actual mirror.
  2. Boy those sure are angular-looking. Most modern ones are. To me, the angular, sharp corner ones usually look better on a sharper-focused sportbike, not an aging geezer ride like the VFR.
  3. yeah, but I don't need to do that just in order to swap fluid via the speedbleeders, do I? Won't the system still push fluid thru it without taking off the wheel, caliper etc?

Question: If I have speed bleeders installed all around on the 800 on all the front and rear calipers as well as the linked brake valves under the seat, the process to swap all fluids is much simpler, right? I don’t have to go thru the above whole process of removing the rear wheel, rotating and remounting the calipers, etc again, right? I can just use the speedbleeders normally to swap all the brake fluid?

  6. Finally got around to pulling off the cap on the clutch master cylinder, and yep: gunk in the bottom and the fluid was low. Not sure where the fluid went though (?) as I don't see any leaks. I thought the fluid was light in color as viewed thru the sight glass, but in comparison to the brake side it wasn't. Brake side is...light mineral oil colored and the clutch side was...honey colored. Anyone know how to clean a sight glass? Appears the clutch side is stained a bit now, even thought the fluid has been swapped. As far as the lever pull, it came in up in rotation to ride this week so I'm happy to report that the pull on the lever feels like it used to.

  9. Was riding my 6th gen home this week, and stalled it out leaving a light. Twice. At different lights. WTF? As I was riding it afterward, it felt like the clutch lever now had a different engagement point. It didn't have the stronger pull it did earlier. It was weaker, felt like. All of this happened within a day of riding? I got home and looked around for anything odd like a missing lever bolt etc but it looks fine. Fluid is light and no leaks that I could see. Any thoughts?
  10. The dimples thing are just too odd. Guess the open expanse of yet more red plastic needed to be broken up somehow visually.
  11. Plus, they don't fit a helmet, and everything you pack inside has to be unpacked piece by piece when you get to your destination thru a narrow opening. The OEM bag liners are an "open bag and grab bag liner and walk away" sort of thing, rather than make 15 trips back and forth between your bike and the room....in the rain, etc. I see stuff like this and I ask "Did the guy who designed it (and the folks who make it) ever actually take a road trip by bike? Ever pull up to a hotel, at night, in the rain, after riding 10 hours, eating power bars for dinner, and have to be given a map by the front desk from your bike in the well-lighted spot up front to your room on the back side of Bldg. Q on the 3rd floor by the icemaker? Think that guy wants to make 15 trips back to the bike at that point? How's he gonna feel about your product then, you Jackhole? I can sorta, BARELY comprehend these a bit more for the 5th gen owner, who's choices are thin when it comes to buying hard bags. Which makes me even more confused to see these on a 6th gen when the OEM bags exist.

  13. Yep. Separate bags. And even the plate holder is a separate piece. Ugh.
  14. Yeah, the dimples were surely put there for a reason, right? Not sure why though...Throwing a leg over those seems like you'd almost need help to do it.
  15. Pass thru? Naaaaaa...you're looking at two separate bags my friend. Two separate fugly bags. Bulbous. With the OEM bags so good, why make these?

  18. Sweet Fancy Moses....I think I may have this damn thing solved.This mirror sitting in the top of my toolbox, may mock me no more. Yesterday I took the grinder to the Suzuki GSXR mirror. It's OEM from Suzuki, so not sure if the aftermarket/Emgo ones etc have the solid metal stalk or not. The ones I have are really solid and easy to grind. I ground off the 3 "nubs" on the bottom of the mirror, the "ring" of metal on the top of the mounting hole where the bolt goes in, took some of the metal off the bottom of the stalk, all in an effort to get the talk to "drop down" more, as it's waay high otherwise. I have yet to do the wedge (I'm gonna use the hard rubber stopper in the fotos instead of tubing) but it looks like it will work, as it's more in line with the left hand mirror (the OEM honda VFR one) both visually and also sitting on the bike confirms it as being spot on as far as height. I still need to spray the stalks, of course, but this is looking damn good to my eye, using the OEM Honda bracket. What do you guys think?
  19. I just now went out and removed my OEM mirror, kept the base on the bike, and mounted the GSXR mirror to the base using the same honda bolt. And you're right...they do stick up waaaay to far to be useful. After looking at it, to me it looks like a wedge puts a lot of stress on the mount...so I'm gonna make a big move on this today and grind down the underside of the GSXR mirror stalk to see if that lets me slide the mirror in a bit more. This also should let the mirror drop down vertically on the bike to make it more useful. I can always repaint it if it works. I'll post up results.
  20. OK. What year was yours, BTW? No difference between the US and Euro version as far as parts?

  22. Finally got to this. I *think* it was a loose hose clamp. Hard to tell with all the coolant marks everywhere. I do know the overflow bottle was bone dry, and it wasn't before. I cleaned up the inside of the fairings while I was doing new sprockets and chain on her. Idled it a long time, no leaks after I got about 3-4 turns on the hose clamp. But....if you still have the waterpump Dutchy, I'd be interested in putting it on my shelf in case it still leaks. I stuck my head under it to look at the weep hole and saw nothing but the shaft spinning past in the hole.
  23. Don't despair...Squirrelman will always hate on the 500s. It's just what he does. I however, have one now. Bought another for a friend, and gave it to him a few years ago. Mine runs great. Haven't done much but add gas to it lately. Congrats on the buy.
  24. Thanks for the pics. The vibration could be caused by using the non-OEM chinese build mirrors. I know other chinese knock-offs for other bikes suffer vibrations, whereas the OEM ones do not. Emgo is a particularly bad example of this. From what I've seen/read, everything they make vibrates terribly. When I worked at a Honda dealer, we'd routinely sell them, and get them back 3 days later for this reason. Thick wall AL tubing from a handlebar. I wonder if a solid rubber "wedge" cut from a solid rubber stopper would work as well. Just thinking out loud that your tubing is essentially a large "C" shape, and a solid wedge might give more solid base for vibration preventative as well? Plus you can get them at Ace hardware stores here in the states for 50 cents each. I'll have to check this out this weekend hopefully.
