Valve clearance, dealers refuses to check
soichiro replied to Dae's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
It's not a vtec. It has the honda unicam. The dealer must not be too experienced. It shouldnt void your warranty in any way. I'm a honda auto tech and I havent had the valve covers off my 04, 70k miles. -

Oh yeah. A honda auto filter works great on the VFR. every honda after 1989 uses the same filter. It is a little longer, so a little more capacity which is always good. It's half the price of a cycle specific filter. If you want exact the honda hybrid oil filters are identical to the cycle filters. Only blue instead of black.

As yall saw at t-mac, I can take the fairings off in seconds. The clips are so simple. I think many just dont understand how they work exactly and they do wear out. I think not taking the left fairing is lazy, no offense BR. I think the fairing should be taked off to ck. the radiator reserve and I also ck. the blue connector, all connectors, and bolts while I am there. It can be done easily, especially if you have removed the evap canister.

Probably would be fine, but dont do it. Most of us on here never believing in mixing tires. The frt. is the most popular size. I am surprised that they dont have one. Get the right size, tire.

Same exact thing as all 6th gens. I have seen 4. Mine melted the red wire first. The others I have seen did the same thing. I think your model has a bigger wire, so the fuse took the brunt. More likely the fuse holder and the plastic. On a 2002-2005, the wire goes from large to maller and thats where it heats up. I had the recall harness done and it did it again. I made a repair myself and put on a VFRNESS. No problems in that area in 25k miles. My battery died on a trip. I later found the stator, RR connector on the right side was melted beyond repair. I simply did away with connector and my charging system is spot on now. I always carry some fuses and wire on the bike.

As monk said, if seetings are lost, you can turn them all the way in or out counting turns. You then know where it was and how to adjust. The manual helps as you can go back to stock and then adjust. I set my pre-load adjusters so they match when on the bike. It makes it easier to adjust and looks cleaner. Dont force any screws.

Official 2011 Tmac event report & picture thread!
soichiro replied to Baileyrock's topic in VFRD Spring Memorial Ride (TMAC)
1. Please don't take this as a flame... 2. I am the red rider 3. It was damp/wet 4. The corners only appear to be gentle, many of them are anything but 5. I hang my girth off the bike as a safety measure - the whole point of hanging off is to make the bike more upright at a given corner speed 6. I need the exercise 7. I was on camera!! I hang off like a monkey. Mainly because thats how a sportbike should be ridden. As SEB and I were discussing at the meet, we like to get a knee down because it's fun. -

I have about 318 pictures of me with my knee down at the gap. I decided to purchase a few where it wasnt this year. I think these are really nice. My photos look exactly the same every year. A couple of photos I purchased from thursday morning. -

I like the icon. Honey badger dont give a shit. I spent as much time wrenching as I did riding. What a great group of people. If someone has a problem, 5 guys are on it before the rider can change clothes. I have been to a lot of rallies and rides, but the VFRD group is simply the best. -
Short in front. Tall in rear is how my bike was shipped.

Same here. Also the rad reserve can be checked. I have had the fairings off so many times it takes less than 5 minutes for both sides. The oil is meant to drain on the kickstand and then I put it on the c-stand. I also warm the engine up to 150F. Where did you get a bag of 100 clips.

Sounds like Jimmymc750's "claw." Yep, I'll definitely have to pick-up that tool. I realize you don't concern yourself with torque specs on oil filters, soichiro, nor do I...anymore. But, I'm curious, what would cause Honda to bump the "official" spec from 7 to 20 ft./lbs from 5th to 6th gens? Thanks for your help, I'll hang up now and take your reply off the air. It could be a mistake. We find errors in honda manuals, parts books all the time. I tighten the filter by hand and then snug it up with socket. I put mine on pretty tight but my socket fits perfect, so I have no trouble removing it.

You need to purchse an oil folter socket that fits perfectly on to the oil filter you are using. A perfect fitting cup would never spin on the filter. That and a long extension are ideal. At work when If i get an oil filter that jiffy lube put on at 4000ft,lb's I use a big pair of channel lock type oil filter pliers. I havent had a filter that I couldnt remove with these. They are actually like channel locks but only have a few teeth and are meant for removing oil filters. They are even curved to get in there. Forget the torque spec. I have been a professional tech for nearly 20 years and have never torqued an oil filter. Put it on hand tight and use the cup, socket to snug it up. The claw type oil filter pliers are the best solution to this problem. I have only had to buy one plier. I assume your oil filter socket fits well but slipped because of how tight. Good thing it didnt leak.

Exhaust wrap doesnt make the pipe cooler. It contains the heat and the heat is higher. Adding moisture and higher temps will lead to corrosion. IMO. I guess they make a water resistent type.

Well, I really don't wanna start talking out my backside here, but probably not......... I dunno, I was watching Top Gear where they took a GT-R to the track in Japan and the speed limiter turned itself off. Maybe this is just a feature of that particular car though, I'm not sure exactly how that works. If somebody here that is more familiar with Japan's speed limiting laws and how the GT-R changes itself once it gets to the track, please educate me, I really don't know. Either way, dude really, 112MPH, I hit that merging on the highway around here!!!!!!!!!! :comp13: :cheerleader: :bliss: It is GPS controlled. It knows where the car is. Ferrari has the same thing. 112mph is pretty low.
