    Old Yeller

That might be the sexiest shot of a Y2K I've seen.
  3. And in 20 years you should be a world class fabricator and painter!
  4. Looks good! (BTW- you guys and your perfectly clean chains make me sick!)
  5. Keystone, I dig the pipes. Can you take a better shot and post it for us?
  6. thats it, it stays. +1 (for keeping it to spite them all) :fing02:
  7. On my 2000 I cut off everything except just enough to mount the plate, then cut a small window box(or drill holes) in the underside of the tail light to allow enough of light to hit the tag and be legal. Then glued or silicon a clear piece of plastic over the hole! :fing02: The lights (tail/brake) are already there you just need to let some clear light hit the plate. Sweet idea BR. And as an added safety your tag gets bright under braking too. :fing02:
  8. I was wondering if I could use the stock light but I opted for the bolts. Of course I didn't have any small connectors around when we did the job so I need to put them in if I want to change the tag. Wow, that was one twisted rear. Glad that your bike has been updated.
  9. I decided that I just couldn't take the long rear fender on my 5th gen but I didn't want to risk a ticket or look like a squid by taking the whole fender off and jamming the plate up and over the back wheel. The solution: On ebay I got some little LED lights, that are also bolts to retain the license plate (about $20US) and then with the help of my OCD friend (actually he did pretty much everything) did the chop. We sketched out the the part of the plate that we wanted to cut with a silver Sharpie, used a Dremel to do the cutting, sanded the rough edges and soldered the new lights on. It looks good, is legal and completed in an hour. Now, I just have to clean my dirty chain and wheels! tail chop1.jpg IMG_0299.jpg

  12. I've been a bicycle racer for a long time (and I'm sitting here in one of my team uniforms as I write this) and I have never thought about wearing my shorts on the VFR. I might have to check that out if I ever do more than 200 miles in a day. That said my bike jerseys would make a great base layer but they are covered with sponsor logos so it might look pretty silly when I stop for lunch.
  13. Now THAT would be a cool 2009 VFR.

    WANT!

I looked out my office window just in time to catch this young boy pulling his grandma in for a closer look.

  15. I'm glad that people are doing this with all my favorite bikes! (VFR RZ350) Although with those skinny tires the RZ must get mistaken for a moped when it goes by without the 2 stroke buzz.
  16. I thought that I was the only guy around who wanted a quiet bike. I thought that I was the last guy around who has the stock pipe by choice. While I love the growl of our V-4s (and for some of us the whirr of our gear driven cams) the idea of a near silent bike is damn cool. It must be because I've been a bicycle racer for a long time.
  17. I'm so glad you explained this. I'm all about experimentation and electric power but that looked too much like a great copy of my old bike. Other than that I think an '86 VFR is a great choice for your project. It was ahead of its time when it came out and if you are successful you'll do the VFR proud.
  18. I think it depends on the bike. On my Ducati Monster they looked a million times better than the stock mirrors.
  19. Looks sharp. Literally. :salesman:

  21. Hmmm, I have to go look under my big-ass Maryland plate and see what is on my 5th gen.
  22. Wow, check out that color! Back in '92 I had a S-Works M2 (Specialized) mountain bike. It came in that color purple. When I had to have the bike repainted due to a defect that caused the stock paint to flake I had the bike repainted in that metal-flake gold. Nice to see that you are rockin' them both.
  23. Sounds to me you have a bike that you want to show of. Go for it. Just build it and they will come. LOL. Actually no, quite the opposite. My bike is bone stock. Wait, my chain has been replaced! Wanna see a pic?! What got me thinking was that I had to replace the nose fairing (the shop cracked it) and I thought to myself: Hmmm, if I had to repaint... Toro already took my first choice color (I painted a Serotta road bike that color back in '97 before everyone and their brother decided orange was cool again). I would think that there are lots of VFRD riders who would like to show of their paint jobs and there are even more of us who want to see them. Come on people, fly those colors!
  24. Does anyone else think that it would be cool to have a "pinned" topic with pictures of all the VFRs that are painted other than the "Original" stock color? (For example if you have a 6th gen painted in 2000 yellow that would be fine). It would work best (hell, it will only work) if it is limited to one or two shots of each repainted bike and no one posts comments about their personal opinion of the color choice or the quality of the paint. Maybe a mod could post submitted shots to a locked topic that is pinned. I just think that it would be cool to be able to see them all in one place. It would also be useful if anyone is thinking about, or needs, a repaint. It would work like a color catalog or full size paint swatch book. Thoughts? Interest?
