  1. If my kids ever ask me whether we live in a global village, it's posts like these I can always refer to! So happy for you mate. :-)
  2. So does it start or not!!!
  3. Not for reliability, no. One of the reasons was their electrics. Their Fuel injection system is smart, unlike the Honda system, which is brain dead.
  4. Jake Wilson sell 'em
  5. I need to update my status more often!

  6. I wear ear plugs. Cheaper and works in every helmet!
  7. Nah mate, buy a Givi Monokey, and then use an SW-Motech Alu-Rack to mount it. See links below: Rack Givi plate with quick release! Soft bag plate so you can mount large soft bags as well as top cases! Givi E52
  8. My feeling is that there might be some subtle hardware differences between PCIII and PCV that mean the maps don't translate well. For example a value of 10 in the 15% column at 4,000rpm on a PCIII might result in a fuel mixture of 13.6, but maybe on a PCV the very same settings might result in a 14.8. Basically the Power commander is a piggy back device. It tries to overlay an Alpha-N tune over a Speed-Density ECU (except at WOT, which is Alpha-N), which I believe means you're always effectively hacking it rather than really re-tuning it accurately. Add in some hardware changes between the PCIII and PCV (timing delays to injector pulses, or maybe less delays in injector pulses?), and the whole "map" goes to shit. If I had the money, time, and inclination I would have built a custom ECU hardware solution for the 6th-gen using a Motec ECU. It's been done before (mainly for Honda outboard motors though). Then I would have sold it as a kit to VFR owners. Ah well, I bought a BMW instead.
  9. Actually since Zollie's bike is an '08 he needs the other diagram for the later models. I've boxed up an American ECU and extra wiring pin so he can mod his Euro-spec bike to US-spec. All he needs to do once it arrives is tap the new pin into the black/white wire and slot it into the right spare pin hole on the ECU connector.
  10. Sure it works, but maps translated from the PC3 don't work very well and it really needs a custom tune. There are no pre-built maps from Powercommander for the PCV on 5th-gen bikes so a custom tune really is a necessity.
  11. 11 years on and Honda still haven't fixed this (starting with the 2002 6th-gen). They need to seriously fire their freaking engine tuners because they're bloody useless.
  12. OK lets check for 12 volts at the black and white wire where it goes into the ECU. Turn off ignition and disconnect the ECU completely then turn ignition back on and test for power at the connector. You may need a pin to reach it. If there is power here i would start considering this a case of a dead ECU. There will only be power here when the ignition is ON because the 5 volt reference signal is generated by the ECU. Still sounds like it's not booting up to me. Don't trust that bloody manual too much it is full of errors!
  13. OK this is not a HISS problem. Your ECU is not getting any power. First test is to check the black/white wire coming from the front left relay under the headlight fairing (I suggest removing it to access this area). Tell me if you are getting +12 volts between the black/white wire and ground. Possible culprit here could well be your bank angle sensor. They are known to fail. Pretty sure we can jumper this to bypass it if we need to, but let's do the black/white wire test first. Now, the reason you think this is a HISS problem is because the HISS light blinking changes. Don't be fooled!!! Here is how the HISS light functions: - When ignition turned off, blink every few seconds (regardless of whether there is even an ECU connected or not!) - When ignition turned on, only blink when instructed to by the ECU So you see why the HISS light goes out? It's because the ignition was turned on. It has nothing to do with the ECU.
  14. Or you could buy my US-model ECU and solve the problem permanently! Actually, I can probably help diagnose the issue. I know way too much about HISS. What's the behaviour when you put the key in and try to start the bike - specifically what does the FI light do? Watch my YouTube video for some example behaviour too:
  15. Wunderlich EasyPark XL. http://www.wunderlich-bmw.com/shopart/1624660-2-3482/shop/Parts-pool/1/Rangierhilfe-easy-park-XL.htm
  16. Sure will - my 2002 secondary master cylinder is all yours for $15 plus shipping. I'd assume $40 all up.
  17. Definitely do the fork oil and seals. Having to personally deal with a frozen swingarm spacer, I recommend removing the swingarm and lubing the pivot shaft and spacers with copper grease. Also re-pack the swingarm bearings and re-pack the hub bearings for the rear wheel. Good preventative maintenance! Head bearings you can inspect easily (bike on centrestand, front wheel in the air, move steering from lock to look while feeling for tight or rough spots), and generally will also be able to feel when they're stuffed while riding.
  18. If you wear earplugs, the only thing you can hear is the Staintunes!
  19. Not really, it's designed for sound rather than flow. The catalytic converter is the limiting factor if anything. Having said that, the top end benefits a bit from a Power Commander regardless of Staintunes or not.
  20. There's just not a lot you can do with an almost 30 year old motorcycle to make it handle or go like a modern one. Anything you *could* do would be so expensive that you may as well buy a modern bike. People don't tart up their 1st gens for that reason, they do it for the character. You are much better off using those funds to buy something fast yet cheap, like a CBR929 or CBR954 - bikes considered to be amazing handlers and now dirt cheap.
  21. Hi buddy, The fuse holders are notorious for failing. Is it a sign of something more ominous? Possibly - I've had two fuse holders melt over the years and they were all due to failing charging systems. But I am here, sir, to rescue you. I had recently purchased (and am not using) a brand new Narva 30 amp self-resetting weatherproof circuit breaker. It will never suffer weather corrosion or deterioration of the fuse blade - those cause heat and heat is what melts the fuse holder. It's yours for $20 shipped (I paid $35). You just need to splice it in to replace your current 30 amp fuse holder. I also have a Signal dynamics Heads-up voltage monitor you can have for $20. You'll be able to see whether your charging system is in good condition all the time. I'll happily ship them both in the same box. I also have spare regulators in case yours has crapped itself. Also, $20. I know I sound like a sleazy car salesman, but I'm literally dumping all my VFR stuff.
  22. Ride a K1300R and you *might* be persuaded.
  23. Was that the new 2012 one or last year's model? The 2011 model was a bit "meh" according to Alan Cathcart.
  24. In 5-6 years they will be focusing on electric bikes. The Zero DS is getting good reviews, other manufacturers will follow. I for one would love to commute on a powerful electric bike!
  25. No Need to drain the oil IF you use the centrestand. Otherwise you will be draining a lot of oil....
