Hey guys and gals , returned from down south and wanted to post a quick thread on my experience down to the infamous tail of the dragon. Hopefully will give newbies some ideas and some veterans a laugh.Last year we made it as far as Bristol Tennessee and rode the Back of the Dragon , the Rattler etc. around the same time of year which was great, obviously. This year we strapped our nuts on and decided to slay the Dragon. Day 1 Friday: Finished up at work a little early, giving us a chance to load up the bikes. Last year we took the trailer which was great but thru the mountains puts a load on your wallet with fuel costs. So this time we thru the bikes in the back of the truck and we were off from Cambridge ontario canada , taking the 401 headed to Detroit. Our first stop was in windsor on Huron Church line which is the road to the windsor/detroit bridge. There we fueled up and stopped at a Swiss Chalet for dinner. The chickens and fries seemed bigger than the ones near my house for some reason? Next stop duty free...3 bottles for $39 ....wow! The border was not a problem and we were on our way thru the amazing roads of Michigan and Ohio which rattled out all of our fillings on to the floor of the truck. Lima Ohio is where we crashed at 10 pm for the night. Day 2 Saturday: Up and out by 7am after we had a quick bite of powdered eggs and on the road. Uneventful ride thru the Jellico mountains, while enjoying our 99 cent fuel. We made it to Pigeon Forge which is a Niagara falls on steroids. They happened to have a Classic car show going on we got stuck in traffic right up to Gatlinburg. Which was alright as we enjoyed seeing all the sights and sounds. Real neat place, tons of gokarts, mini golfs and restaurants. Made it to our home for 3 nights Bryson City. Chose the Sleep inn as it was new and out a secluded area unlike robbinsville where your hearing Harleys at all times of the day and night. The rooms were small but perfect for the two of us but not for a family of four. Breakfast was your standard continental powdered eggs. Price was $79/night. By now it was 5-6pm , we unloaded the bikes and we were off to explore for a quick ride and some food. Bryson city has "the road leading to nowhere"...an abandoned road that just finished being paved which was neat. For Diner we stopped at pasqualino's on main street which had large portions and really good food! Day 3 Sunday: The morning started off chilly, unseasonably cold, so we spent a bit longer lounging in the breakfast area sipping on some coffee, eating powdered eggs and contemplating what roads we were gonna take. Figuring the Dragon was gonna be busy on a Sunday we opted to do the lesser known roads today and leave the Dragon for tomorrow. By 9am we were on the road heading toward the blue ridge parkway. The parkway was a beautiful road with manicured grass as a shoulder. It felt like an oversized bike lane as the road was not wide at all. Nicely flowing with no real intense turns. From there we continued cruising the area which included 215...276...64...281...28...We got lost a couple of times but thats a good thing. Out of all of those roads we really enjoyed 64 to Franklin and 28 out of franklin I was surprised on the amount roads we covered as we didn't stop too much for the typical pictures and we typically ride quicker than we should, so we ended up at the 28 and 19 junction around 4pm. We continued up the "moonshiner" US28 to just take a peak at the Dragon. When we arrived at Deals Gap we were just overwhelmed with the whole area, the vibe, the bikes, the sounds, the smells. Completely surreal especially for some canadians on some non Harleys!! We stayed there for a bit ,got our bearings, looked around talked to some local folk until our chubbs calmed down. We headed back down 28 for the night. For dinner we chose Jimmy Macs which had great burgers and catfish sticks. We had lots to talk about and absolutely stoked about the next days riding. Not gonna lie, after hearing and reading so much about the dragon we really worked ourselves up alot that night. Day 4 Monday: Chilly again with a low of 38, but it was warming up quickly. Finishing our powdered eggs once again we are on the road heading down 19 wanting to start at the bottom of US129. After having a quick coffee in Robbinsville we off to the Cherohala Skyway. Once again a beautiful road and it reminded me a lot of the Malibu Canyons, the roads, scenery etc. Continued on the 360 to Venore where we fueled both ourselves and the bikes as we aware of what was next. Heading down 129 we stopped just before the start of "the tail of the dragon" where we noticed the river was extremely low. Asked a couple of local boys there drinking beer, whats up with all the cement shoes on the bottom of the river. Apparantly they were draining the river to repair one of the dams. My buddy is still trying to figure out where the drain is. We decided to take our first run slow for obvious reasons, and waited for a bunch of Harleys to get behind. Once they arrived... we were off. First big turn comes and Kaplow .....Harley rider down!! http://moonshinephoto.photoreflect.com/store/Orderpage.aspx?pi=0CVY01BR022224&po=2223&pc=4072 We are thinking to ourselves, " what the hell is the rest of the road like" ...we are gonna die!! We wanted to stop but at the turn there was no where to stop and it was filled with her fellow riders. WOW what a start!! Well we made it down and at the bottom and were relieved as it wasn't "that bad" considering. What a road! An easy descision was made to ride the dragon the rest of the day. We saw it all .. locals flying thru it like it was a trackway, tourists in vehicles holding on for dear life and of course, lots of Harley's. Some of the Harley riders really impressed me moving those behemoths thru the turns with ease. Although I saw lots of the behemoths riden by some women who couldnt even touch the ground, or make it up the small hill at the Deals Gap entrance. Must have been some ego thing... i don't know, but when there is a train behind one of the girls on a Harley on the dragon.... you have to wonder. MINI RANT OVER After we got our fill of the dragon and we bought the t-shirt to prove it we were here, on our way we went. Down the rest of 129 thru robbinsville and back to Bryson City. Loaded the bikes back in the truck for the morning and off to dinner. This time we chose Guayabito's Mexican and it was great. We don't very many mexican restaurants in canada so were were spoiled. Do not order the large margarita!!! Day 5 Tuesday: Out the door and on the road by 6am. Smoking it up I75 all day we made it to cambridge ontario 7 pm as we stopped at the swiss chalet again for dinner. My take on the area. Most of the roads are similar to the roads we ride up here in NY and PA, the appalachian mountains. The only difference is they are everywhere in North Carolina and Tennessee . In PA you get spurts of good twists then a straight run or every couple of miles a couple of nice bends. Or one specific road is nice. The roads are endless and plentiful down south. Our favorite road, which is subjective, would be the Dragon, hands down. I know a lot enjoy Cherohala although it was just a nice cruising road to us. The dragon gets your heart racing and your bike moving, testing your limits. Then we really liked the moonshiner and 28 coming in and out of Franklin. Can't wait for next year, hopefully make it Texasmac

what are the odds of a 3rd wave of ordering?

It was time for a drive replacement and have always had problems with stalling in first if revs were not higher , anything under 3000 rpm would want to bog and needed the clutch feathered. Hard braking without downshifting would leave me at the bottom of the gear, bog, then i'm scrambling to find the right gear. So tried -1 front sprocket rather then +2 rear sprocket as it seemed to suit me a little more as being non aggressive. After install went for a hundred mile run and found it really helped that bogginess?? in the lower gear where I tend to stay. Previously shifting into next gear would drop the rpm 1200-1800....now it drops into the next gear with dropping rpms only 600-800. More responsive on the throttle, now needing to be more gentle on and off the gas. Before i was always looking for that 7th gear, is even worse now ....bring the rpms up another 500 in the last gear. Which i don't mind too much as I am rarely a freeway flyer. I will leave in place for the rest of this season and next and always have the option of swapping out anytime with minimal cost and work. Overall it really helped my low pull which i use and need but top end is not there in which I rarely redline. I feel like its more forgiving with gear selection. I think its a good idea for in city and mountain riding but for slab riders not so much.

was reading the posts on the hid and led conversions but was wondering what is stopping me from just installing the led bulb only without the fan units and the resistors? Sleasbay has some bulbs for $5 each thanks
