my voltage readings were perfect when the bike was cold and reved to 5000rpm. after 30 min of riding the voltage would drop to 10.5-11 at any rpm. ( no damaged / melted plugs, the bike only has 27000kms) i was lucky. i followed the tests outlined in this forum for the regulator and stator. i only bought a OEM '31600-MBG-306' regulator as a "temporary cheap solution" because i found it on ebay for 90$ shipped. Within the next 2 yrs i will purchase the better version from Roadster Cycle .com and solder the wires. at the same time by precaution i replaced the stator ( the readings were okay) with this one that was mentioned on this site too. https://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=vfr800 generator&PN=G52.html#SID=200

Hi jdude, Your RR ( voltage regulator ) is OEM and most likely 20yrs old. if i am not mistaken it is the second version of 3 that came out for the vfr800fi. it is most probably on its way out, unfortunately. i had the same on my 2000 yr model. had to replace it this year too. Good luck.

just a couple pics : arriving at work and then in the garage with the new seat cowl and performance screen . instead of having the wind on my chest / shoulders i now have it in the face, it is however more comfortable, just gotta tuck in at higher speeds . :) -
VFR's have always and will always sell well here in france . They have a huge cult following. Here is a little example of what my old baby is going for on the dealer's floor !! Mod April 2014 with 21340 ish kms Deluxe edition, with side bags, alarm, ermax screen and a arrow end can . 9999€ . (on the second hand private sale market here the price would be between 8-9000€ . ) go figure .....

in 2 weeks time, Yes it will be !! Kawa france already has a mass order in for the new CDI's . the french law was crushed by the european union and as from 1 Jan 2016 all pre 2016 bikes with abs and that are euro 3 compliant as well as new 2016 euro 4 compliant bikes can be full power . ( this is why the H2R was not available in france till 01/2016, Kawa waited for 2016 ) the french are bike mad, and this has hurt sales over the years . that french law was pointless , most people never respected it, and like the KTM RC8R i had, the governing came in to play when you were like in the 240-255 kph range already. had no effect whatsoever on the torque ( what the hell was the point ) . anyways...... (CBR1100xx in black with the red xx, ooooooooooooh so pretty ) -

(2) "Ninja," if I had to guess. I don't know if they call it thay there or not. Do you speak Ninja !! :tongue2: Right on the money jhenley17 !! unfortunately they are just simple zzr1400 here in France . classed as a tourer by Kawa . to me it'll always be a ninja though . ( i always wanted a gpz900 too) anyways ... and as to why they are all named : :unsure2: not too sure, just something i do, most laugh at me, but it does not stop me from thanking the bike after every ride and giving it a kiss now and again . ( i know, if the people in white coats hear me i get free tickets to the looney bin ) i have a lot of respect for this bikes power, and any and all bikes i get to ride for that matter . i'll take my time, we'll get to know each other soon enough, but for now i'll ride like a grandma !! As we say in french Bonne route !! to all ..... ( basically translated for those who might not know, have a good/safe journey/ride/voyage ) . rob. -

Hi Polarbear, yip, it is heavier, standard they weigh 268 kgs, with the Leo vince end cans it cuts 10kgs off so 258kgs aint too bad for the bike it is . so it's like 18kgs heavier than the 8th gen vfr give or take a kg . As for a first ride impression, the dealer put new tyres on it ( Dunlops sportmax ) so im still being rather careful riding them in. roads were wet this morning for the 40 odd km ride to work so i had it in rain mode (limited to 75bph back wheel and KTRC3 traction control level 3) just to be safe . feels very lite for its weight, really comfortable, however i feel the weight pushing it around in the garage, not too many places to grab on it iether. Feeling the wind on my chest a lot more than the vfr, ( have ordered the higher Kawa screen already ) . You can really feel the power in this thing though, WoW ....... Does make me feel alive, has not fully sunken in yet though, never thought id ever get to have something like this . Personally; the 8th gen did nothing perfectly for/to me, But it did/does do everything and i mean everything very well . I think this bike could be fun to tour on, not sure if it would be better, equel or not as good as the vfr, who knows, different strokes different folks . rob. -
Honda dealer made me a deal i could not refuse, so i did it. i already miss the vfr, but after almost 22000kms i wanted a change. If i had the cash i would have kept the vfr, but alas i do not . so because i do not have the money to have a different bike for every day of the week ( i would probably need more days in the week too for all the bikes i crave ) i took the deal . ( they gave me 1500€-2000€ more than i could have hoped to get by selling it myself, and the zzr is 10 months old with 5000kms and 4500€ cheaper than the new out the door price the first owner paid, he changes every year for a new one apparently) over a years warranty left. really would have liked to keep the vfr, but hey, thats life . i really do adore this forum, i'll be hanging around for sure. perhaps if i'm lucky, ill pick up a 5th gen one day soon . take care Rob . bye bye baby :sad2: helloooooo Natasha !!!!

Is It Irresponsible To Ride A Motorcycle As A Parent?
Rob916 replied to burnes45's topic in OTHER Motorcycle Talk (non vfr)
In short, No . does depend oh how you ride in my opinion . choices . does not matter in/on what you roll, if life decides to cut it all out from under you, it will . -

Hi again, Yip it was a vacum hose pintched, they sorted it . Problem seems to be gone, it has been 3 or so weeks and it has not done it once . Unfortunately i will not have any more time to see if it comes back, i have traded her in . i have too little money to have all the bikes i crave, ( and not enough garge space "yet" ) so my Honda dealer made me a very very good offer for a low milage 2015 zzr1400 and i took it, going Tuesday morning to swop. (there were no vfr1200's in the area and it was a one time offer) insurance is exacly the same crazy system !! So this is goodbye for now . Thanks again for all the help, this site is Superb !! i'll be hanging around just because i'm addicted. take care all, Rob.

Not sure if the vacum hose was checked, ( not sure what that is to be honest :/ ) all i can say is that now every time i fill up it is very difficult to open the fuel cap ( it's sucked down) and opens with a suction noise and effect !! a little scary ....... and it is has not done it for 4 days straight !!!!! way too weird for my liking, thinking of trading it in for a 7th gen vfr12 . :/ anyways, waiting for Honda to advise . rob .

"Better" is in the ear of the beholder... er, I mean, listener. I quite like the song of my Akrapovic. My 2 cents I too like the sound of the Akra, and agree with Shinigami 100% . Unfortunately did not have the cash for the Akra and got the Arrow pro race, put the db killer back in after around 15 000kms ( got too loud at low rpm through tiny french villages, did still sounded very nice at speed 90-130 kph, not too loud at all ) . there is also a very clear change of exhaust note/tone when the v-tec comes in too. take care, rob.

The dealer did try all to do with the alarm and said it had nothing to do with it . here's the vid . P.S. i did not touch the accelerator, bike's doing it all itself .

Hi All, hey Grum, thanks for the input . will try to make this as short as possible . Got the bike back last week, after honda tried without sucess for 3 days to re-produce the error . (still nothing showed in the sofware as an error) they said they had cleand up connections and i should see if it is ok . Did the same thing to me 4 times in a row, took it back end of last week for the 4th time, they kept it till today and said the cleaned up some pipes and change the map sensor. (they put my map sensor in a brand new vfr and tried for 3 days to see if it would do anything, it worked normally ) They were still not able to re-produce the error before changing the sensor. And asked me to try it again for another week . Honda France is stumped, they have never seen this type of error on a vfr . After the second time i got a video of the fault, ( i did show it to the mechanics at the time who did not seem that interested ) Showed it to the owner of the Honda dealer today and he was very interested and asked for me to send it to him . So, we'll see next week what happens . it is supposed to rain here the whole week, so yipee doo !!!!!! will be looking like a drowned rat very soon . Will keep you all posted, take care . rob .

Hi all, first time happened about a week ago, start bike, idle starts to go up for a split second as normal then dips straight back down to below 1000rpm, PGM-FI light flashes twice every 3 or so seconds, continues for roughly 30 odd seconds till the bike cuts out. (PGM-FI orange one, looks like a motor, right side) if i try to re-start straight away, it wil not start at all. if i turn the key off, then back on, starts up fine, idle's properly. run's properly while riding, no problems what so ever. 1st visit to honda last week, they only found a ABS anomaly and asked if i wheelied often, i replied no, never which is the truth !! they found no other anomaly when the bike was hooked up to their honda software.they told me to go home and see if it continues. 2nd visit to Honda this evening (20 min after it had did it again leaving work) and when hooked up, no anomaly detected, ( software see's my bikes id but does not see it as a vfr800, weird ) . so they kept the bike and loaned me a 2015 cbf1000 ( not my style but hey ) sometimes it does it morning and evening, sometimes just the evening. if i stop somewhere for a short while, it runs fine after too. Bike has almost 20 000kms. still under warranty till April this year, and it's a 2014. it's got an arrow end can with the db-killer in, and a techno-globe alarm, both since around 4000kms till now. i always fill up at the same station, and always put only 98 unleaded in; as the euro french manuel advises. the battery is in good health and is hooked up to an optimate if i know i will not be riding for more than 2 days. one of the Honda mechanics said it could be (i'm translating from french here, not sure what the english equivilent is) atmospheric pressure sensor in the fuel injection . so we'll see what happens, will keep you updated. take care .

Hi Robin, i have to agree entirely with Rectaltronics, we do not have the broken pavement but the principle is the same in and coming out of the many round abouts (traffic circles) that litter the french villages, that have very uneven surfaces a lot of the time. (cheap skate repairs after winter months or just cheap skate repairs in gerneral ) it just cuts the gas when i really do not need it too, and takes too long to give it back again . i leave it on in winter conditions but turn it off in warmer conditions . The ABS i do rather like to have though . :)
