Since you are so familiar with Dutchy's bike, I thought I would just do a quickie hue shift on his clutch plate. Seriously, like a 1 minute crap hack for visual represenative purposes only:

Hey All, Soon To Be Vfr Owner In Indiana
marriedman replied to V4Mitch's topic in Official Welcome Forum
Now you will be able to appreciate the V4 smoothness all the more! Man, what an awesome problem to have! Of course, I am biased here; I would go for the 5th gen first, then 4th and the 3rd gen lastly. Don't get me wrong, the 4th & 3rd gens are awesome bikes, but parts and fairings are getting more and more rare. -
You are most likely talking about Gen-Mar risers. And no, they don't swap. But the good news is that they aren't that expensive.
-
I'm really sorry to hear that. All in all, I really love this bike. This is the first serious complaint I have about it. My only complaints thus far are the exhaust note and engine sound compared to the 5th gen and mpg's. Nothing new there, but everything else about the bike I just love.

Brilliant! I really like that idea. I do want to comment on one thing though. (The part that I bolded specifically) There is an old saying, locks only keep honest people honest. If someone really wants to steal or damage your bike, they will. I have seen videos where people have had chains on their bike around a pole or even disc locks. The can cut the chain or in the case of the disc lock, they can pick up the entire bike and stuff it in a van! All they need is an easier target to overlook yours. So if there is another bike without any locks, that will be their target.

I can't help with this topic, but I am intrigued by it. I have never heard of fluorescent paint. As much as it pains me to say this, you may want to ask this question over at VFRWorld. Member Badbilly specifically has an uncanny amount of knowledge in regards to painting. The guy is a complete tool bag troll that has no clue about common courtesy and manners, but dammit... he knows his shit.

Luckily, there is not much reason to take those fairings off frequently. The only reason I can think of now is the coolant change which I just did. I can tell you this, I will actually pay someone to do it next time just to avoid screwing with those damn fairings. I seriously cannot put into words how frustrating and angry the whole process is in my opinion. I was actually looking forward to learning it in the beginning. After all, the belly fairing is just so awesome and easy as well as being well thought out. I cannot figure out why, but where the side fairing meets the tank fairing, it's just a little too tight and not lined up properly. Neither of my kids could see it, but I know what it should look like. Something must be out of alignment somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can find it.
-
I got one side back on tonight. I am going to stand by my assessment that I still hate these fairings. I believe the person who designed them should be dragged from their bed into the street and beaten mercilessly. I just cannot find a way to do it that I like. However, if when the bike was dropped in my garage, something got whopperjawed a millimeter off and that is what makes all the difference... I just cannot stand this design. It's clever, I'll give them that; but it's a royal pain in the ass IMO. I would have put the other side back on but I forgot that I was running a power outlet to the front and got sidetracked. So I need to finish that.

"Honest honey, I have it listed for sale right now..." That would be the only believable explanation for that price. Wife wants him to sell it and he doesn't want to. Of course, with only 11K miles on it, he's not really using it anyways.

Not a fan of Shad products from past experiences, but those are some damn nice looking cases! Make sure and post some pictures once you get them mounted please.

That lift is awesome! You paid a pretty penny for it I am sure. I am using a harbor freight lift and I think it is wonderful, but doesn't hold a candle to that baby. Thanks for the clarification ridered. Appreciate it!

I still haven't put mine back together yet. I have been waiting for it to warm up before attempting it. I do not want brittle plastic from the cold to be a factor. I have used fiberglass mesh this to re-enforce the broken tab, but it was a bugger to keep in the right spot long enough for the stuff to harden. Hopefully I didn't screw that up. Could you elaborate a bit on this, what hole are you referencing?

You traitorous bastard! How dare you leave Honda and look at othe... woah... that's a sweet looking bike! And the triples do a have wonderful exhaust note and are known for torque... Damn. Alright, you're still cool!

Impressions Of The Vfr After 1000 Miles

Sure can. Clutch side is a pinch bolt and then move the pedal down a notch or two. Other side is an adjuster knob. -

I understand your interest in the rubber on the footpeg, I switched back to the OEM footpegs on my 5th gen for that reason. However on my 7th gen, there was so little vibration that I thought I would take the chance on the Buell pegs. Especially since I got the pair for like $30 delivered. -

In regards to the footpegs, the Buell footpegs I have are excellent. Just needed a little grinding and a bushing to make them fit. -
I hear it's falling down...

I didn't even make it a minute in that video. If I had that to deal with, I'd never ride! That seriously gave me anxiety to watch it. I agree with Aimbot, get the bike out in the countryside and open space and ride however is normal for you. Figure out your mpg (or kilometer per litre) and then figure out if you need to dig into it. If there is something wrong, would a dyno run be a good idea? I have never done one, but I assume it should tell you if you are running overly rich. If there is something wrong, perhaps a ECU flash would be warranted?!
-
Ditto, small touches like that really make the bike shine.

lol, boy lemme tell you it was tempting to break it out! I've been thinking about why I was having such a hard time about it. Besides the obvious thing pointed out above, I remembered that my daughter pulled the bike over when I first got it. I'm betting that the some of the stuff may have been bent or cracked. Such as that black peice. That sucker looks like it shuold have been way too strong for me to break by sliding the fairing on and off. So maybe in the long run it was better to replace that and pick up some more of those white plastic clip things too.
-
I have broken a fairing tab, a frame mount, and a white clip just from trying to get the right side fairing on. I'm also scoring the hell out of the silver on the front fairing where it's supposed to magically slide together. I'll JB weld the fairing tab, but I'll have to buy a new frame mount. Is there a video anyone knows about showing how to put these sonsabitches back on? I found one on how to remove them, but just doing the reverse is breaking shit. Sent from my phone, please forgive brevity and misspelling

7Th Gen Specific Coolant Change Question
marriedman replied to marriedman's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Looking at the service manual it says to replace the sealing washer. On partzilla; http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/2010/VFR1200F+AC/WATER+PUMP/parts.html I believe it is part#23 WASHER, SEALING (6.5MM) 90463-ML7-000. Is that just a 6.5mm crush washer that I can find at the local hardware store or do I need to go to a Honda dealership (hour trip)? -
The reason the motorcycle specific ones are more expensive has to do with the weather resistance as well as resistance to vibrations I believe.
-
I don't know, lifting the bike by its exhaust just scares the crap outta me.

7Th Gen Specific Coolant Change Question
marriedman replied to marriedman's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Cogswell - that is the info I needed to hear. I was wondering why it would be different and that makes sense. Thanks! lshark - yes, that was the page I was referring to. I guess snapping the throttle is considered burping then?
