While doing winter maintenance and cleaning I did this... Doh!

post-23565-0-22739100-1456618796.jpg

As I always do I spray the grungy bits with degreaser then go out to a snowbank and scrub them down with snow. Seriously, it works!

On the right side nearest the header pipe the plastic had been hot and was warped and brittle. That and the below zero temperature caused it to cracked like glass. It's still usable but looks like crap.

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen this piece available in carbon fiber ?

Perhaps you could make the repair and then wrap it in fake carbon...

Thanks Joe, that probably the route ill end up taking. What paint do I need to use on abs and stand up to the heat?

Thanks Kevin.

Do you think the wrap would take the heat?

I have no experience with it.

Hey RD

On my last bike, a 97 VFR, I had painted the same cowl piece in behind the front wheel and then had a local 3M dealer wrap it with clear vinyl to prevent rock chips. The clear vinyl held up for 4 years after install until I finally sold the bike. I might suggest a pro to do the install though as with the number of contour changes on that piece getting the vinyl to adhere properly will be a real challenge.
