stillsmoking
my vfr keeps having a problem changing in to neutral the gearbox becomes stiff clunks between first and second with difficulty and wont go in to neutral normally when i pull up if i stop the engine it clicks straight into neutral the really annoying thing is that sometimes it works fine and every time i have taken it to a garage it has run fine so they cant tell what's wrong with it i think its the clutch but i don't want to pay out hundreds to try and find the problem any ideas and does anyone know a good mechanic in the wiltshire area that knows vfr,s and doesn't charge a fortune
Member Contributer KevCarver Posted August 16, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted August 16, 2015 First off, punctuation works well for others to be able to read your posts. How old is the oil? Fresh oil in my '99 makes it seem like a brand new gear box.
stillsmoking
the oil was changed about 600 miles ago it helped but did not solve the problem , if you think my punctuation is bad you should see my spelling
TNRabbit
It's not an uncommon issue, I believed due to abuse &/or spottty maintenance. To solve the problem with my 1998, I simply moved the shifter arm down one tooth & now I'm able to pull up much more firmly & it goes right into 2nd gear.
