Use Tyreweld After Plugging A Puncture

Hi all,

There was a nail in my Pilot Road 3 rear which I had plugged at the local Honda dealer at the weekend. They took the tyre off, inspected it, and then plugged it from the inside so it's a safe repair and will last the rest of the life of the tyre (tyre has loads of life left, it's pretty new, I'd have bought a new tyre otherwise).

The mechanic who did the job said to me that the nail had entered the tyre at an angle and so there still might be a tiny air leak from the plug and, if so, recommended using Tyreweld to just seal that last bit of the plug - essentially to help the plug make a 100% air-tight seal.

Has anyone done that before? I have no reason to doubt this mechanic, I know the dealership fairly well and they're a decent bunch.

I've never used a Tyreweld product before.

I've had to plug several tires for nails/screws, but never had a failure afterwards.

Can you provide a link for the stuff?

I think you'll learn at the next tire change that a product like Tyreweld is not worth the big mess...

I don't recommend the inside mushroom type plugs because they have come unstuck...

I do recommend the self vulcanizing rope style plugs like Safety Seal...

My plugged Rennsport that covered 2K miles and not in moderation
either... it's seen over a 140 more than once...

Inside the Rennsport for proof that the rope type plugs stay intact
whereas my mushroom type plug started to come unstuck

You can see by the diagram that Safety Seal plugs that are installed
properly establish an mushroom shape inside the carcass that holds
fast under pressure... you'd have more luck pushing the plug inside
carcass than you'll ever have it pop out under pressure...

Nylon Rope type plugs found at any auto parts store...
