Member Contributer didit Posted June 8, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted June 8, 2009 Yesterday I got out for a great ride, covering one of the many loops in the area. Started out in Kelowna's city park, with a police escort / procession across the bridge to our first stop. Poker run style so there were 4 more to follow. Though slow, it was very cool to see the huge line up of bikes flowing across the bridge. Wish I could have taken a pic of that. I took it upon myself to solicit pledges from co-workers, friends and riders alike to try and reach a $1000 goal. With the generous support of so many - including a few from the VFRD (you know who you are) - I was able to raise $1305!!! What a great feeling. All in all, there were 190 bikes - 224 riders/pillions - $18,000 raised - no accidents / tickets / problems. We had +22 degrees for most of the day, a little cloudy and a mild downpour across the Rock Creek Pass. Nothing worth worrying about as we were dry by the time we made it back to town. Loop went South through Penticton, OK Falls, Osoyoos, up Anarchist to Rock Creek, Beaverdell and back to Kelowna. About a 6 hour jaunt with card & gas stops. The parking lot was busy with a great variety of bikes. The VFR amongst other participants Chris, a Britt who is relocating to the Okanagan came along. Great guy, excellent rider, funny as hell. Chris, my ride buddy talking with a Moto Guzi rider All in all we had 5 police bikes to lead and block intersections for the first short leg. Nice being able to cruise through stop lights as traffic stops and watches 190 bikes roll by in balance & formation! Our escorts for part of the day At the last stop outside the Beaverdell Hotel. Just got past the rain and picked up the final 'non winning' card Note the speed sign in yellow just above. Eh, it's a harley bar. Last card draw stop on the poker run. Upon arrival at the host / finish location, we were greated by some smiling faces with bottles of water. Other than Chris's expression if you look - she's touching my bike Chris with the water girls They were so nice and refreshing. The bottles of water! Come on, my eyes are up here. The water girls. Ahhh. Thanks, I neede that! Thanks again to friends for the support. Next year I am going to double my donation and would be proud to host anyone up who would like come up and join in. I'll post up next year in advance. By the way, if you are over 40 get yourself checked. It's the number 2 killer of men in Canada!
