Avon Tires

Hey I posted up about Avon and no one really knew anything about their road hazard warranty in the US. Their website didn't help either. Well their site has been updated with an 800 number to call. So I spoke with a rep and Avon WILL replace the tire if it occurs within the first mm of tread depth. I asked the rep about how many miles that would cover....her response was: "1k miles on a soft compound tire (I forget the name but similar to the pilots) and 3k miles for the Storm ST's. I think this is fantastic!

And on a side note I just got a nail in my new Metzeler M3 rear......so if anyone is intrested please pm me. So I will now be going with Avon's since I've had bad luck with punctures in early tire life. My    are way up to Avon for offering this~!

My 'bike guy' specialises in Avons (although he sells/fits all brands), and he gives a lifetime free puncture repair on his tyres in addition to the road hazard warranty . I'm not sure if he still does (because I've had so many Avons he probably wouldn't bother telling me), but he used to offer a "free 1000km or 1-month trial period" on the Avons. If you didn't like them, he'd swap them for something else, no charge.

FWIW, I've had to use the puncture repair service three times - twice on tyres with less than a month's wear on them.

I really must stop riding where I shouldn't ...

Avon doesn't seem to be that common of a tire but I have a set on my 5th gen. with an almost worn rear, and this set has convinced me that Avon Storm's will be my tire of choice for my VFR's.

I don't need a soft compound tire on my VFR's (but do use M3's on the "other" bike) but these Avons have never slipped coming out of a corner, have excellent turn it even with a worn rear, and wear very well considering how I ride (hard, but not stupid hard). I think I've finally found the tire "for me". The suspense is over....

This is absolutely fantastic.

Did you get any info on the details of the warranty? Like what happens in the even of?

Enzied, you have the best tire man on the planet. No wonder why you do repeat business with him.

I dunno, but he does give me discounts on stuff (usually 20%). OTOH, he promised me a $500 commission if he sold a bike (Yamaha MT01) I told him I had a possible buyer for, and he wriggled out of it. (I didn't actually want the commission, and would've settled for a beer, but I was a bit annoyed as he's invariably pretty straight with me).

I need to go back to him soon - I told him to be gentle tightening my Ariete valve stems, and the rear one is a bit loose and leaking air.

More than a few years ago I had a new Avon Azaro mounted on the front of my RT. A buddy and I departed Williamsport, Pa and wandered south along the east coast to inspect the then newly relocated Cape Hatteras Light House. After that, we slabbed west across NC to Asheville and north on the Blue Ridge. South of Roanoke at a rest stop I was kicking the front tire and watching it spin. After a quick WTF moment, a closer inspection revealed a blister the size of a quarter in the center of the tread.

Limped into Roanoke, found a bike tire shop and had a Metzler something mounted. At that point the Avon had rolled somewhere in excess of 1500 miles.

I strapped the shot tire on the back of the Rt and headed home. On the return trip into PA I stopped at the shop from which that Avon had originally been purchased. I showed the tire to the shop owner and inquired as to the road hazard guarantee. He made a quick call and informed me that the tire was to be returned to Avon for inspection and determination of whether or not there would be any adjustment.

Not liking the odds of that being resolved in my favor, I declined the offer and told him that I would instead leave the tire tied to the back of my bike as I traveled and give Avon all the free advertising that I could.

He told me to wait a couple more minutes and disappeared to another phone call. A short time later he returned with this offer. A new Azaro would be shipped to his shop which would then be available to me upon surrender of my defect. Done Deal.
