The more I read about lining a tank, or silver solder, the more I'd like to just find a tank. That said, not easy. I can't find NOS tanks, even wrote to Honda. Everything on eBay is dented or worse. Any sources for tanks? Will any other model fit the 5th gen? I've read threads on modifying a 6th, but that's no bargain either.

Has anyone lined a tank for a long period of time? I called a local shop, and they didn't recommend it based on future deterioration. I was also wondering about silver solder, but I'm partial to not blowing up <smile>

Also, based on some reading, I contacted a place in CA that does a coating process, but that's around $900 plus shipping.

Maybe I'm just overthinking all this and should just get POR 15 and be done with it!!

I will do ANYTHING to not line a tank these days.  Small dents and dings on a donor tank can be fixed without a bunch of body filler AND not compromising the interior.  But then you have to pay for a real paint job.  Which I'd still rather do.  Finding a perfect tank in the right color is gonna take time.  Maybe keep an eye out for a tank bra and a "decent" tank to go under it until you find that unicorn tank.  Or maybe a Bagster cover.

Good luck!

Are they legit and accurate? They have a black tank (1 left) listed as NOS but I've been reluctant to pay $905 US plus shipping, vs. having dents removed from my existing one and having it repainted, with decals the repaint would be $600.

Buy a decent tank that is clean inside, needs some work, but isn't smashed, get it pro repaired/painted and don't look back.  Money will seem well spent after a few months of not always checking that same spot for failure.  There is NO WAY I would spend any kind of real money painting that tank after lining/soldering.  Had a friend who did that and the kick in the balls when his new paint job was ruined was sickening to even witness.  It was like my balls got a glancing shot.

I took a ride to my local shop today. To weld the dot and paint match would be $800 guesstimate 😐 I can see that the guy does good work, that is up there!

What is the "dot" from?  If there is one, how do you know there is not 10 more on the inside about ready to do the same thing?

...also, I can't find my tank on CMS - put in my VIN. I think the one that was listed here was 6th gen

...fair point. I have used a borescope and the tank looks clean. I couldn't get into the wings though. I'm draining and will take out the fuel pump for a closer look.
