Scrapman
Hiya again guys. I've been getting some miles in on the old girl. It's just so easy to ride and so quiet the speeds are surprising . Surprising I can handle but not knowing the speed at all I can't handle . Everything else on the dash works but the Speedo stopped reading and therefore the milage is not recording . I've been advised it could be dampness behind the clocks . I've seen that being an issue on old steelies CBR's. I'm wondering do any of you have anywhere else you could point me too as in the Speedo pick up etc ? Hope you are all well Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 8, 2017 Member Contributer Share Posted July 8, 2017 Pickup is on top of the front sprocket. A plastic thingie sits on top of the nut that holds the sprocket and it is this plastic thingie that can loose its grip. Not spinning means no signal to the speedometer. Member Contributer JZH Posted July 8, 2017 Member Contributer Share Posted July 8, 2017 The speedo cable can also snap, but check the plastic sprocket thingie, first. (Your speedo is entirely mechanical, so it's mainly immune from the electronic corrosion ills that afflict the more modern VFRs.) Ciao,

Scrapman
Sorry, I mean no cable in the traditional sense of picking up from the front wheel .Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
Member Contributer JZH Posted July 10, 2017 Member Contributer Share Posted July 10, 2017 Yes, but it does have a cable from the sprocket to the speedo. I snapped one, once. FYI, I've had at least one 3rd gen since 1990... Ciao,
