  1. It took me riding a well sorted SP1 to commit to the swap, myself. I have been dissatisfied with the stock brakes for years, so that's why I didn't go with just an internal change. Thought I wanted radials, but when it came down to it I was just interested in the look of it. Love my stock RC51 brakes with stainless lines. They are fantastic! Keith, have you seen the new Marvic Duc wheel? I think it's pretty bad ass! I'll try to find a pic in a little bit. (Linky) Should be free on Sat.
  2. Maybe Concours triples would be more relaxed, more VFR like? By the way, I have SP1 triples and a 954 upper in hand if you want to take a look at them. (and bent up 636 triple)
  3. Do you know the clamp diameters on the ZX forks? Honda seems fairly standardized at 54 lower and 50 upper, but as I posted earlier my old 636 USD were 52/50. Again, need to have them in hand before going forward, I think..
  4. Thanks Keith! I'm paying for other parts at the moment... Could be a few weeks.
  5. Oh, and I need a muffler that will fit under my new (to me) GIVI Wingrack. Sure wish I knew somebody close by with a Staintune low mount they would sell back to me...
  6. Ordered a Rick's Stator and a fuse block from Tightwad on Thursday. Ordered new bearings for the SP1 Stem on Friday. Ordered a bunch of various bits from Ron Ayers today. (Including caliper seals and mounting bolts) Today I put the shims and cams back in, but when I re-checked the clearances I found that I sanded two of my valve shims too thin. So I ordered new replacements. When those and the stator come in they should be final parts I need to remove from the bike! Everything moving forward is installation. Still need to fit the front end together and test control fitment. Still have no hydraulic lines on the bike! 0/4
  7. Oh, right. I forget about the stock stem cause it is welded in. But seeing Luigi's post, I guess it isn't so tough to seperate. I stuck the SP1 top clamp on the bottom 636 (stem removed) and the fork holes didn't quite line up. Then I remembered the different diameters. It really looked like, if my stuff wasn't so bent up, they would fit together.
  8. Was messing around in the garage today and decided to stick my forks together for a comparison: SP1/'03-'04 636/5th Gen On the Kawi forks, the bottom clamp diameter is 52mm and the top is 50mm. SP1 is 54mm and 50mm. As you can see, the Kawi and SP1 forks are essentially the same length. The stem on the 636 is too big to fit any bearings into the VFR head, but the stem is pressed into both of the bottom clamps, and both are 35mm. In theory the SP1 stem could be fit into the 636 bottom clamp. I tired putting the 636 forks in the 636 bottom clamp, and fitting the SP1 top clamp to see if they would go together, but my Kawasaki bits are far too bent up to go together anymore. (That's why they are still sitting around in the garage!) Was close, and I think they may work. I don't have a top clamp from the 636, but I think the center hole is slightly larger. If I recall correctly, the '05-'06 636 forks had similar measurements, but the stem was shorter and fatter than the earlier. I don't recall if the later Big Piston Forks have the same clamping measurements as the earlier 636 models. Could be worth lurking on a Ninja forum to find out. All 636 and newer are radial calipers.

  10. Nope, I bought a very nice stock R1 fender (that I will paint red to match) for $15. I'll let you know on the bars. Ah, I remembered seeing your post on a Tyga thread on Speedzilla, but forgot it was the triple!
  11. Ahhh! No count downs! I'm nowhere near a rideable VFR yet...
  12. Not sure what you mean? I bought the 2 pc version that includes the ignition mount. The same triple is available in a "race version" without the ignition mount for $167. Maybe. Haven't started on the first set yet, will be soon though. CF Front Fender? Let me know on the bars. I still have to get the steering stem steering stops cut off and try to fit it all together. I have some SP1 stock clip ons, but nothing else.
  13. Yes, I plan to mount the bars under the top triple. *But* I am planning a DIY Convertibar setup, so the bars can be stock, higher, lower, back, forward, whatever... Think you could make another set o' those? I'm not sure about the clearance I'm going to have when I get things assembled...
  14. Nope, I actually did drop $217.xx on the clamp! That's right, $250 for the forks and $220 for the top triple! It is really nice though! If you want to save $50, you can buy the clamp minus the ignition mount, then relocate your ignition ... Didn't those folks sell ya another bit that is a little below the triple clamp?
  15. In the line above the text box, click the icon to the right of the smiley. When you roll your cursor over it, it says "Insert link." Link goes in the top box, and change the words "My Link" to whatever you want to name it. Also the 954 top clamp is the same as RC51 dimensionally, but the 954 is gull winged instead of the RC51 flat one.
  16. RC51 brakes are mighty nice as is! F4i calipers are nearly identical, but black as opposed to gold-ish RC51.
  17. Umm... coiuld it possibly be clear lenses & a replacement tank? :goofy: Many options there, however. Could be smoked, or clear with incandescent, or clear with led. No telling what the tank looks like, either! :fing02:
  18. 2001 I've replaced the OEM fairings with new OEM with the exception of the left side which wasn't all that bad. I decided to give the nicecycle stuff a try anyway. I went with the Xerox scheme. Apparently, after I ordered.....I realized that's what most people do. Oh well. heh Dangit! Couldn't see the headers crossover in the pic until I enlarged it! D'oh!
  19. What year- '98 or '99? Nice looking wheels! Keeping it red?
  20. Some super secret parts arrived! lenses.JPG tank.JPG
