  1. Dude.... Step back first and confirm your battery is good.

Then there 3 checks for the stator.... on the connector...stator side.... not R/R

    - Do A to B, B to C, C to A.... engine off. pin to pin on resistance.. should be less than 1.0 ohms

    - Next A to ground, B to ground, C to ground... should be infinity, no connectivity, nada... again engine off.

    - Then as my friend Grum pointed out, A to B, B to C, C to A. engine running, AC volts on the stator pin side, 20ish on idle, 50ish + at 5000rpm

With system connected and checking at the battery, engine running,.... roughly 13.0 at idle.... 13.8 to 14.3ish at 5000 rpm... healthy system.

Are you running an OEM R/R?

And.......... I make no apologies for repeating myself and advising to keep well away from Auto Reset Circuit Breakers for the main 12v output from the R/R to the battery positive.

    As always YMMV.:fing02:

Yes!! - Never cared for what our favorite R/R vendor sells....

I usually say go with the metripack 630 fuse assembly... such as .. -- middle of the page...

Looks like DelCity has some nice options too... rated 40amp... havent used one yet, but its on my try it list... (10ga)

  3. Some good example wire and connector burn up photos....

    - If you have to splice in wire, dont use anything from the local auto parts store... I use marine grade wire for the fixes.... (if its good for a boat, its definately good for a motorcycle....

    - I am not going down the road of solder vs linemans splice.... I've done both..  YRMV

    - IF a connector is a gotta have, go with a Metripack 630 connector, ditch the OEM style...

Ultimately, part of the success is a good workmanlike craftmanship on the installation.

I've seen photos of the good parts/equipment to use, but the shitty work doomed the install and was another toasted mess...

As a btw... a good crimp tool for connectors is a must..

I have a voltage meter installed, so I will be keeping an eye on it.

Do you have any links to stories of burnt crimp connectors/odd voltages?

I would be very interested in reading up on that.

@vfrcapn has good photo of crimp connectors good and crispy...

---- 1st choice is going to a solder connection. But if a connector is a gotta have, a Metripack 630 is the one to have. Its designed for high current applications.

Same for the fused to pos battery side connection......

Odd voltages... Cogswell posted on that one, commenting with another member with the same situation. (Cant remember the name)

If the stator dies, will it take the RR/battery with it? That seems to be the case if the RR dies but I can't find anything about the stator dying and causing issues. I ask because I put the SH847 in place yesterday (but ran out of time to pull the old one out completely and mount the 847)

Hi - I have a bunch of these R/R mount plates for 6gen left over.... PM if interested.

For folks who have bought from Jack, did you ge the universal 2 way or 4 way mounting bracket for the 5th gen? Thanks!

On the FH020aa R/R, it mounts easy by drilling 2 holes, it's the OEM size.  The 847 for 5th gen takes a bit of creativity to mount it. It's physically larger than stock.

(6th gen, I have mount kits for that.)

    >Ok gang.....Should I develop a 5th gen mount for the 847?
