  8. I posted this in my refurb thread already, so if you've seen it before apologies. I completed my COP swap recently and this thread was an excellent guide. I chose to use the boot/seal over the top style COP's common to GSXR's and, like others, found the length/plug engagement/and seal to work seamlessly on the VFR. One tip - I pulled the rubber seal and installed it first, then inserted the coil second. This ended up meaning the seals sat a bit lower on the coil, just below the notched area they sat in originally. The fit around the coil is a little tighter because of this, and the seal over the plug tunnel is very positive as well. We will see if they move around, I haven't had the bike back on the road yet. Here is a pic of the part #, thanks everyone for sharing the info:
  9. Thanks for the kind words. I would call them 'good enough'. As stated earlier in the thread, my painting setup is crapola, and I wasn't really very concerned about runs or even a few finger prints (as you see). My goal here was to clean them up and get them coated to preserve and prevent further corrosion, which I think I've done. Also, for a $12 investment I won't feel conflicted about pulling the trigger on a performance replacement (if one ever makes it to market). Had I just spent $250 on ceramic coating I wouldn't be feeling so inclined.

  11. Brief update for those following along: Best quote received - $250 for media blasting, Cerakote Glacier Chrome, and tumbling to polish after baking. In the end I decided to save the money and do them myself, with my thinking being that I will save my money for when one of these mythical aftermarket performance headers come out for my '98. So, into the sandblast cabinet they went. I used VHT Flame Proof primer, paint, and clear coat. I've used the primer and paint before with decent results. My prep was much more thorough this time so I am optimistic about the results. I blasted, prepped, and painted them on Sunday. My paint setup sucks if I am honest, and rattle can isn't the best, but it gets the job done for now. I basically hang the parts in the doorway of my barn and spray away. I'll upload some pics tonight or tomorrow. Total cost - $40 in paint, $10 cash after returning some old batteries for credit.
  12. Hey gang, I am planning to have my factory headers ceramic coated as a part of the refresh of my '98 5th Gen. There appear to be some decent shops within a few hours driving distance from me. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Is Cerakote brand worth seeking out over non-branded coatings? My thought was to get something as smooth and close to chrome look as possible (similar to Cerakote Glacier Silver). I may end up wrapping the upper rear sections to cut down some of the heat like others have done. Any thoughts? So far I have been quoted $250 to media blast and coat them. Pics of the headers are here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/uN2y9YJAhresEE4X9 Does this sound like market price given the condition of my headers or should I be expanding my search for vendors? All input is welcome, thanks.
  13. Lint, this is a great question. I have been planning my attack on my 5th Gen also and it looks like Hot Cams makes a kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-2001-HONDA-VFR800Fi-VFR-800-800Fi-INTERCEPTOR-HOT-CAMS-VALVE-SHIM-KIT/382428054076?hash=item590a7d023c:m:micR4RIcGZugit6DtRvgngw&vxp=mtr I haven't used them before, but I have seem them discussed on the CB sites and it seems like they are acceptable.
  14. Hi Anonymous, Thank you for your donation of --. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  15. One more off topic quickie - Gig, is that a full Two Brothers exhaust setup including headers? how about you sell it to me, sound good? Paypal ok?, thanks. Nice bike, where'd you get the little pad for the seat cowl?
  16. Thank you much! Snagged a decent looking "tested" set on fleabay for $25 shipped. I will be doing this mod as a part of the refresh on my '98.
  17. x2 Can someone positively ID the part # or specific donor bike model and year for the GSXR coils that have the "tophat" over the top style seal/boot? Thank you in advance. My ebay search for "gxsr coils" brings up quite a few variations (especially considering the volume of non-factory options) and Partzilla doesn't show specific part images for these.
  18. Theoretically, wouldn't the reduction in mass from chain to belt allow for quicker acceleration/transmission of power to the drive wheel (much like a lightened flywheel in a car)? Or is the mass of the chain truly negligible when taking the amount of force into consideration? In general, I tend to agree with you, I doubt it'd be measurable in a meaningful way (some fraction of sec quicker in the 1/4mi? some tiny bump in low rpm torque on a dyno?). But what about the feels?
  19. I'd be curious to see a kit price for this conversion for 5th and 6th gen's (pipe dream I know). Do you think there'd be a market for it that could tolerate the price tag? What do you think this mod would like performance wise on paper? Would the bike be measurably quicker or would all the benefits deliver on the 'feel' side of things only? I am intrigued by this idea and project.
  20. Ah yes, you appear to be correct. I missed that Larry mentioned RC45 in his posts, apologies.
  21. Way out of my depth here admittedly, but you say 'this doesn't help Larry'... why not? If it solved the belt length issue, wouldn't swapping a 6th gen swingarm onto a 5th gen be an easy and relatively cheap swap?
