  1. I'm looking for a tail light assembly for a 5th gen vfr Not sure if this is how to submit this kind of request but I'm sure someone will let me know.
  2. I didn't notice if the temp shot up. It was a lovely morning on the Oregon coast and then...bang. I had ridden a thousand miles or so since the valve "adjustment". 35K miles. Not new but if I don't f**k this one up and the previous owner was nice to it I should get many happy miles, yeah? Besides the price is right and it is a 1998 vfr so it's not like I'm gonna put a brand new engine in it, although I do enjoy the hell out of it
  3. Funny you should ask.I have always done maintenance. Right? Well that may be the issue. I did a valve check in December at 47K and determined that pretty much all the intakes were in need of adjustment and a couple of exhausts were near the limit. Did the job and truth be told it didn't run as well. Lost 10 mpg fuel mileage and low rpms were crap, Above 5000 it ran great. But I should have retraced all my steps and tried to discover what the problem was. The only thing I suspect is that I didn't get the shim centered in the valve lifter and it set off a terrible chain of events leading me to where I am. It's funny though. The morning it blew it was running great...the low rpms were smooth and it seemed to be running great. Then a "clunk" and no more engine.I live south of Portland and am driving up to just south of Vancouver BC tomorrow to pick up a used motor off a 2000 with 35K miles. I'm getting pretty familiar with the bike by now. My wife was stunned to walk out to the shop and see the bare skeleton of my pretty red bike hanging from the rafters! I do want to ride to Glacier and Yellowstone. Maybe next summer. Driving it with the wife this summer. (She won't ride with me. Bad experience as a teen.)
  4. Thanks. I'm picking up the engine tomorrow. I get to drive up to BC.Should be a nice drive , better on a bike though. I was wondering about using the 98 throttle body so I'm glad to hear it will swap over just fine. I've been reading about the fast idle wax unit and the manual lever on the 98 sounds just fine. I was wondering about the cooling connection as well since the manual says to remove the 2 cooling hoses from the 2K throttle body to uninstall it and I'm not sure where those hoses come from and go to and if my existing plumbing would work. So you say use the 98 throttle body and 98 plumbing and all will be hunky dory. Thanks for the input. I was going slow and heard a clunk and the engine died. I must have clutched immediately because there was no skid. I thought my stator wires had fried again and the battery was dead. Turns out they were and it was but there was also a hole in the engine case, #2 valve, piston and I think rod were in chunks. The weather is turning beautiful and I hope to be back out in a week or so if all goes well. Good opportunity to inspect all the bike and clean those nasty nether parts as well. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. Hey all, I just joined so no pic or profile yet but I wanted to weigh in with my tale of woe. Loud crack then engine cut out. I could shift and clutch and rollin newtral but engine seized. Piston and rod cracked. Punched a hole in the crankcase between the cylinders. this was a 98 with 49K. I am getting a 2000 engine to put in and wondered if anyone has experience with this swap. ie., the catalytic converter and something about coolant hoses under the throttle body? Will my 98 ecu work? I'm anxious to get back in the saddle since riding season is upon us in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for any help.
