  1. I just got of my 2013 VFR1200 ran the last week all over hells half acre, never was close to the first bike looking for gas, never had anything thrown at me that the little DCT 1200 couldn't handle, and managed to keep up with every other piece of iron in the group without the 1200 breaking a sweat. Let's face it the VFR1200 is a steal at the current prices that you can get them for, they are dependable, give a great ride and will take you anywhere you want to go, pretty darn well. It's almost time for the nay sayers to move on, and they should be happy Honda just put out the new improved 800 VFR's (heck this should be Nuff said). Why don't we have a debate on the new 800 VFRs and the old VFR1200's after all I can pick up a new older 1200 VFR for less than the new improved 800.
  2. Dave really, I am a bad guy to come after regarding Kawasaki I Love Kawasaki and drove them when they were nothing more than a death trap on wheels 500, 750, triples, I have driven over the years basically every make and model including the ZX1400 great bike watch your wrist and invest in a tire company. The Kawi 1000sx is a good Bike and I think we all know it falls somewhere between the VFR 800 and the 1200, that being said as per early post if it turns your crank jump on board but dont try and tell anyone its a better bike simply because it isn't. There still is no replacement for displacement and it last time I checked doesnt come as a DCT. We know why we all aren't driving DCTs is pure Biker Balls and EGO and hey we wouldn't be bikers without them, heck it seems to be a national sport over here, to smear bikers, off your grill, but for us graying individuals shrink the balls just a wee bit, get the DCT and enjoy riding until the good lord stops you. Take Care
  3. Obviously I love the DCT, it takes me anywhere I want to go and let's me really enjoy riding. I like the flexibility between D, S, and Manual, it makes normal rides much more interesting and even makes the dreaded boring City rides semi fun. I noticed that the new Yamaha 2015 YZF-R1 is coming out with a DCT this year that's pushing 230 hp so others seem to be looking at DCT as well. Who knows maybe Honda won't be shelving the DCT too soon just because it's just slightly ahead of its time.
  4. I find the DCT version a great Motorcycle, it allows you to really do what ever you want to do and do it well. While I hear concerns people supposedly have with the weight of the Bike. I have always liked heavier bikes for touring they simply feel better on the highway when you are passing or being passed by a transport or hitting a serious crosswind. The problem with the VFR is that it should be sold as what it is one of the best 1 person sport tourers built. When I want to scare myself I run the 600, that I split on with my brother on weekends at the track. I like being able to just slide the DCT into "D" in the City or on rainy days and putt, I find the sport or manual lets you get as foolish as you need to on the highway. I really don't understand what others are trying to compare this Honda to, my brother has a great Bike with the Kawasaki 1400 but it doesn't do anything better than my VFR 1200 except for (laying patches and wheelies) all things I'm too old for anymore.(but I tell him older smarter, wisdom thingy) I realise that Honda should of sold it loaded, they milk you, when you have to buy the extra's, so does everyone else. For those that this Bike doesn't meet your needs, by all means buy the Suzy or Kawi or what ever turns your crank, but it really isn't, in the VFR's league, sorry but true. The 1200 especially the DCT is as far as I am concerned one of biking best kept secrets, it does everything very well, not perfect, but which bike does, as for those that say this bike doesn't make them smile , doesn't make them happy, then go buy that smile maker, it must be a gooden, because I have ridden most bikes and I just don't know which one will make you smile if this one won't. For me this is a Great Bike, it's comfortable (true not without modifications) it's fast, more than enough wompum for quick passes and cruising. Range is realistic 160 to 180 miles, let's face it those of you that are getting lower mileage, everyone knows you aren't touring, you are perhaps pushing it a wee bit? Anyone who can't handle the weight really, that's your problem, you have to be joking or go back to the 250's or 600's you will be happy and for 90 percent of roadwork especially around town and short hauls that's all you really need. Anyway I'm done, defending or being perceived to be defending, a Bike that needs no defence, the 2012 1200 DCT Honda VFR is without question one of the best bikes ever built. "Thank GOD" others disagree, or I simply wouldn't be able to afford it, and now I am going for a run to the East Coast and yes I might even smile.
  5. Who the hell wants a Belt Drive I'll pay the extra and stay with a Shaft. Lot's of nice Harleys out there with Belts and they have become renowned for their dependability.
  6. This is obviously a thread by someone who simply doesn't own one or really wanted a short range crotch rocket. My little 1200 does what I really wanted out of a Sport/Tourer you can putt through town, go like hell or just set it up to tour and sit back and watch the miles fall away. What's not to like, every Bike I have ever owned I have had to tweak to make it mine this one will be no different. I have done my thing with crotch rockets and Adventure Bikes so for me the Honda VFR 1200 fits the bill perfectly.
  7. VFR 1200 VTX 1800 R/S Kawasaki 500 Triple, I was a kid and still immortal so even though it was deadly, it sure was fun. Not going to count the Dirt Bikes they were a lot of fun to but in a different way.
  8. It is interesting that you want to jump on a 1200 and go for a quick 1000 mile spin (its nice still being in the immortal phase of life). The guys (and ladies not sure Canadian have to be inclusive) are quite correct in that being a major jump in power and weight. I have driven lots of Dirt and Street iron and there is a total change (if you wish to live) between one driving style and another you will be far better off with a smaller street bike to make mistakes on first taking a learners, and jumping on a 1200 is relatively the same thing as being lucky enough to win the job of Sheriff of "Dodge" and then some dummy hands you a six shooter and says "Hickok" is at the end of the street point the pointy end at him. the only 1200 that can grow with you is the "DCT" keep it in D until after the trip is over otherwise shrink the Gonads just a touch buy and 800 or the SV650 enjoy a little road rash, like the rest of us have, get up dust yourself off and then buy the 1200 or what ever in 2 to 3 years.
  9. Nice to see the New Blue I also bout the 2012 only the DCT version so keep posting anything you see or hear about the iron and us Grey Bearded Blue Beast riders will keep the VFR's smoking. I really like the DCT once you get used to it especially in Traffic nothing any better than put it in D and putt along then put her in S or Manual and she becomes a whole different beast. I think Honda just did basically everything wrong when it came to marketing this Bike, they should of highlighted the fact that this is simply a great/fantastic 1 person sport/tourer, they haven't had the 700 auto's out there long enough to build up a Market for an Auto Bike but the big thing that Honda really didn't do is talk to their clients and actually listen. Overall I know you will really like the 1200 I know I do and like yourself I have had way too many Bikes over my time of riding this one, and newer renditions of it will be my last one however, now all I have to do it start to tweak it to make it mine. Have fun, Drive safe and let me know what you find out there to make it an even better riding experience.
  10. I really think most if not all of the Nay Sayers regarding the VFR 1200 are people who don't own it. I love my little Blue 1200 it rides great allows me to eat miles like no ones business can pass or keep up with anything out there and tours far better than or equal too any of the supposed Great tourers. Anyway don't really care, I kind of like everyone talking about a bike they have never thrown a leg over especially the DCT, keeps the price down. Anyone out there who doesn't like the bike enjoy what ever bike you have, but I can tell you that the bike up ahead that the rider just finished an 8 hour ride on with a Big trucken Smile on his face, well that guy is riding the VFR1200 and if he's really smart the DCT version.

I have a Big Blue as well so far it's been a Great Bike. I am setting up to do a BC then down the West Coast and Back trip for next year, is their any advice to make sure I do take or prepare for to do a Month long run on Big Blue? Thanks
  12. I was going to pick up a set of 4's has anyone ridden on them for a decent period of time? I am going to be doing a Ontario West Coast run and would like to run on them if they actually live up to the Hype.
