  1. Could also be the starter motor bushes need replacing. Easy job and you can get kits on Ebay. You can test for this by connecting the thick cable straight to a battery and see if it cranks.
  2. Taking you back to 2017 after your dyno testing, you did a top speed run on a private test track (Autobahn) and got 194 km/h. Were you sat normally when you did this, or like me in a tuck laying on the tank (189 km/h)? Enquiring minds need to know..
  3. You appear to have stepped off the set of Debbie does Dallas. And wasn't the R45 just about the slowest BMW boxer they ever made?
  4. Yes, gonna get harder to keep them going. Then again, the way we are accelerating to an electric only future we might not need to.
  5. kph don't forget. Be interesting if it was mph now... My F2 is about the same. Seems a realistic top end for a well looked after VF500. At those speeds you are well above 9K rpm too.
  6. I also find FR cylinder 4 is a real PITA to get to. I have the proper Honda adjusting tool too but even with that it is really difficult to get onto the nut. If they are out it does make the bike much nicer to ride when they are all synced up though
  7. You need an electric waistcoat. Best bit of biking gear I ever bought. Keeps your core warm so your hands don't suffer anywhere near as much.
  8. Finding the limitations of the heated grips? I thought you would be in the car by now anyway. Poor VF, there can't be too many left being treated to such hardship.
  9. What's a litre between friends. This is from my PDF US manual which will be for the half faired variant so could be different to the F2. My Euro (green cover) F/F2 manual claims it is 15 litres! So even Honda don't know.
  10. I think you managed to get in more than the manual says possible. 15.5 litres for an 86. Best I ever managed before I wimped out was 234.2 km and it took 13.4 litres to refill.
  11. I'd be delighted if mine made that. I am going to get it dynoed in the near future hopefully.
  12. White wheels normally look sh1te IMO but those don't look too bad. And you haven't got a top box..
  13. I've got four VF500 engines, three 86 versions and one 85 before Honda did the upgrades with line bored camshafts etc etc.. Only the 85 has a pair of marked lobes and they are not that badly marked. That engine is toast anyway due to rod knock. The 86 engines are all OK. Hard to know what the real story is. 33 years is a long time for the truth to get corrupted. Anyway who cares now. TLC and a well functioning cooling system are key to longevity in my opinion.. Can't say I notice much oil being used in mine but I'm not commuting on it and 4K km is more than I do in a year.
  14. Yes, its a Bagster. It's called a Universal Harness; Easy. It fits OK but the Bagster tank bags I have don't fit it too well. It's almost like the bag fittings are too long. However they do fit with some adjustment of the front straps on the bag and it's a decent solution. There are two versions. The Easy trail and the Easy road. Mine is the trial. You might get a better fit with the road version.
  15. You will get water up your tube (ooh err missus) which might not be good for long term rust free reliability. Anyway I am sure you know what you are doing. The grips are good by the way. The auto off feature is really worth having IMO and makes wiring them in direct to battery really easy
  16. Are you going to trim the throttle tube and the handlebars? I bought the Oxford Sports grips and ended up cutting off the ends of the bars and using a bar end to tidy it up.. There is a huge piece of steel in the bars which falls out after cutting. It is there to reduce vibration but when I went for a ride I couldn't notice any difference at all. You can put the steel back in or buy heavy bar ends if the bars do vibrate.
  17. Your battery will lbe knackered. I got one of those new fangled LiPo batteries for mine. It's so light you can't really believe it can work, but it does. Really well in fact.
