Member Contributer LangoPTC 171 Posted January 21, 2017 Wow! Never would have thought I would like a black bike with fluorescent wheels but this looks amazing. Quote
Member Contributer Lorne 830 Posted January 21, 2017 What a lovely view of Monitor Pass, one of my favourites in the Sierra Nevadas. It's about 20 miles from the jct with Cal-4 and US-395, about the same as Cal-1, the Pacific Coast Hwy, from the coast to Leggett. Of course, Monitor Pass's open sweepers are in total contrast with the nasty tight curves on that stretch of PCH. Quote

I would actually count this section of CA89 as one of my favorite roads on earth. Scenic, never crowded, great (and clean) pavement, and long enough to get tired but not actually crash. I've literally ridden it 20 times in one day. Quote

Member Contributer Lorne 830 Posted January 23, 2017 Whilst on the topic of Monitor Pass I'd suggest stopping for a beverage & rest in Markleeville, either before or after your transit. Sure, you could stay at South Lake Tahoe, but I prefer the Bridgeport Inn (which has a great restaurant, btw) a ways south on US 395. And for those who haven't seen it I offer this video showing the summit and eastward descent from my 2003 & 2014 rides. Though my pace was very similar it required a little tweaking to keep them synchronized. Hope you like it. Riding Monitor Pass Quote

Riding Monitor Pass Funny you mention that I had a nice meal in Markleyville, breakfast served at a mom and pop joint, literally I got served by the 14 year old son. Good food, good riding, then I met some guy on a Honda Blackbird and we tore up the the desert below on my way through Nevada. Quote
BrianF 460 Posted January 24, 2017 Don't forget Mountain View BBQ in Walker! Great brisket to fill you up after a trip over Sonora Pass on the way to Monitor. Quote
